  1. Parquet got some rectifications. They kinda put too much varnish closer to the doors of the MBR and adjoining rooms, which I told you about. Left some painting touch ups today and I think should be almost there liao lah. And yah, waiting for my balcony blinds to be installed this Sunday too. Quite stressed this week, we're now busy packing and moving stuff bit by bit. Somehow hor, I feel like pack so much also like never ending. This Saturday the movers are coming and we'll be moving most of the major stuff. Haven't found a sofa so I'll either put my current sofa temporarily or live without a sofa for awhile. Been quite sick too lah, down with asthma. Maybe its all the dust. Ahahahha!
  2. Heya Gantan. Your layout looks pretty good and easy to work with. One of the ways to create a more spacious effect is to break down the wall between kitchen and living area and have an open concept. You could do an L-shape kitchen counter too and save the back (where the basin is now) for your washing machine and dustbin. Just to note, you'd most likely find that the air-con trunking and pipes will have alot of criss-crossing at the passageway between the store and 2 bedrooms so can explore false ceiling to conceal those.
  3. Hi Gantan88. Welcome and hope everything goes smoothly for you for your reno and your life! Browse around the forum and maybe you could even consider getting a good contractor and save on costs rather than an ID.
  4. Everything's looking good New! Lovely open and classy kitchen! Did you guys manage to find the wine fridge in the end? Still gonna add in or not?
  5. Ya, lucky you got it correct or poor BD gonna kena tio suan for not photographing properly again!
  6. BD, your place is very spacious and cosy. Love your kitchen layout.
  7. Yes New, I totally agree with Angel and Rondy! Hope everything goes well with this 3rd contractor. Then you'll kenna suan less by Rondy and Kopi!
  8. Drilling's minimal but necessary to secure the brackets abit of dust for sure but nothing excessive. Installation's quite fast, probably about an hour max. Yeah, sure thing Booy. I should be there most evenings this week and most of this weekend and the next week. Most of the bulky stuff's coming in on Saturday, cleaning and perhaps abit of unpacking on Sunday.
  9. Heya Rasp and Zerochristy. Thanks so much for your feedback on the F&P fridge and for the highlighting of the rubber tube issue. Will dig out more information on those from Aussie and Kiwi owners as well to see if they face similar issues. My guess is that perhaps since they're manufactured in Australia, perhaps the rubber is less conditioned for our hot/humid climate and hence wears off easier.
  10. Zerochristy and Beany: Just wanted to check with you on your Fisher and Pykel Fridge. Is yours the 440 or 441 model? Was looking at these models for my 2nd fridge as it seems to be the one that consumes the least power for its relatively big capacity. Was wondering if you guys could provide some feedback on the fridge based on your usage so far - functions, space, energy consumption, cooling. Also, is the fridge still made in AUS, NZ or in Thailand these days?
  11. Bro, I got mine from Hong Tar. Sure, will definitely feedback to you once we start using it. Aiyo, such a waste about the electrical loading. So does that mean you can only do 3 air-cons for the bedrooms only? Is it possible to have 2 compressors for your side? If so, you can do a System 3 for your bedroom and maybe a single or double split for the ground level.
  12. Kopi, I also chose Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in the end. After trying it out, I'll give you some feedback. I was told that the compressor has a higher power rating - 32K btu vs the Mitsubishi Electric Starmex at 28K. So this would be quite useful when you're gonna get a System 4. It's also a 4 Tick rated Air-Cond.

  14. Angel & Pinklady: Thanks! Its also all thanks to Kopi for providing me with the idea and link. So I decided to explore it by meeting the guy and since this was what I was looking for, I decided to go for this instead of a more bulky wrought iron grille. The frames are in white, but the lines are made up of a steel cable that is tensioned. If you are concerned with safety, you can also add more reinforcement stiffeners too. But it'll mean more vertical lines lah. There is a 3 year warranty attached on the product.
  15. Hiya Beany, Congratulations on moving into a really lovely and cosy home and Welcome to the neighbourhood. Nice touch with cooking the first meal too! The resort feel really makes it a nice, warm home. I'm sure you'll feel very happy and relaxed to be home after a long day. Hope to see you soon some time before I myself move out of that cluster.
  16. BD, everything's looking good. The pictures are nice. PD has saved you from kenna suan.
  17. Yup, there's a glass door which can be closed to keep out rain and dust.
  18. Red Devil, Rasp, Rondy, PJ, Thanks for the feedback on the 'Invisible' Grilles. To answer your queries. For my balcony, it is fixed as I didn't want to have too many 'breaks' in between. However, you are able to do it in casement or sliding window format if you wish as they can customise to your preference. Essentially the frame for the grille is pretty much the same white powder-coated aluminium frame as used for windows.' Cost-wise I think its pretty reasonable, almost the same, if not slightly more expensive that the standard aluminium ones; And slightly cheaper than wrought iron, which I intended to do for the balcony initially. As a reference, I was quoted $1,200 for my whole house - i.e. 4 Bedrooms and 1 Balcony. If you base on the size of my balcony grille by itself is about $450. But as I mentioned earlier, please note that this grille is more for aesthetics rather than security. So it won't block or hinder theft and wire cutters very well.
  19. Rondy, the 2 wardrobes are 5ft. Initially, didn't want to put the one inside the spare room, but in the end thought, might as well do all in one shot. I guess whoever inherits this house in future will be quite lucky.
  20. CARPENTRY UPDATE - 14 to 18 SEPT (PART 2) Extended passage into another room? Nope, its the MBR Dresser between the partition wall and MBR bathroom. The mirror helps in creating an illusion of space I suppose! 'INVISIBLE GRILLE' INSTALLATION - 22 SEPT Many thanks to kopi for providing me with the lobang for this so-called 'Invisible Grille'. Its quite a big help in minmising the blockage to the open views from our unit. Its just a pity I didn't stumble across this earlier or I would've done the same for all the window grilles.
  21. PJ - Kitchen's more or less done up already, they were doing up the last bits of plumbing yesterday so I didn't take any pics. But here's 2 of the in-progress works from last week. I'll pop by this evening again and take pics of the almost-complete kitchen. Main Kitchen Area. Cupboards works in progress. Kitchen glass door installed. Kitchen Tall Cabinet View from the Kitchen sink. For the kitchen, we've had some hiccups along the way.The main issue first was the Cooking Hood and Hob. We had purchased a Fujioh Hob/Hood package initially. However, due to that angled portion of the kitchen cabinet, we were unable to use the hood as it would potrude out quite abit and hence also hinder the top cupboard doors from opening. So we were told to get an undermounted hood based on specs given by the carpenter. We sourced out a Turbo hood followed by an Ariston hood which fit those specs, but when we brought it back for actual measurement, both were out by a few cm, which meant we couldn't use it again. So this time, we had to seek out a telescopic hood. Finally found a Teka one that could fit nicely. I must commend Desmond of Asia Excel for his patience, accomodation and recommendations during the many up and down trips we made to Asia Excel to resolve this hood saga. Really big thanks and kudos to him for all his efforts and great service. Another minor issue which I think they should resolve by this week is that for one cabinet with the pull out BLUM inner drawers (first picture in the middle), the BLUM drawer rubs against the door panel very slightly unless its tugged towards the right. We're trying to see if we can create a groove so that there won't be any rubbing.
  22. Wah, I not around for one day and my blog got so much drama and interesting things! As usual, there are always unwelcome 'visitors' to the blog and I thought 7th month was over already! Haiz! New: The house too 'pure' liao lah. Really need your help and advice on the mural thing! I'm really at a loss. Pinklady: Thanks for the feedback on the murals. No worries. I think my thread has only one poster who constitutes as a hijacker. And no, its not New!
  23. Yeah, most of the room comes with a false ceiling / l-box. My MBR actually has no wardrobe lah. So the wardrobe actually moved to the adjoined bedroom. The laminate is white. Just that its using an aluminium sliding door. The only one that isn't white is the brown one, which is for my parents' room. They chose that laminate. No need anymore white lah... I don't wanna go blind! Ahahahahaha!
  24. Trip ar ... Well, fast one, did whatever work I had to do, then chilled on some extra coconut, extra gula melaka chendol. Going back this Friday again for the final round. Yup, I'm glad its coming to an end. Its been both fun, yet tiring and draining. My next nightmare is the packing, moving and unpacking. Then of course, there's settling in and live-in period. But I guess its something to look forward to.
