  1. Errr.... better for it to burst after I sell, but before I buy.
  2. How old is he? At one stage, my daughter (who was about 7 months old then) was also not taking her milk. My wife and I got very upset because she was still on breast milk. However, checking around with friends and colleagues, we were told that it is not uncommon for them to reduce their milk intake for a while. Lo and behold, after 2 weeks or so, she was back to full appetite.
  3. Errrr.... you can do the CPA/CFA anytime you like, as you as you have the necessary pre-requisites. But if you want to do a course because you want to work in a certain line of work, it would be clearer for us if you indicate what line of work. For example, market research could be a. Economic research b. Stock market research c. Marketing research d. Statistical analysis etc.
  4. You don't have to include your current salary in your resume. Just write something like "To be furnished only upon requests". And if you want to deliberately scale down what you are earning (people tend to scale up just to reflect how good they are), you may just want to include only the basic salary (e.g. excluding bonuses and other remuneration). From a HR perspective, many organisations also use the opportunity to benchmark if the company is paying out the right level of wages.
  5. How old is your toddler? If he is too young, I would not advise introducing flavoured milk (e.g. chocolate, strawberry etc.). That's because if he gets used to flavouring, he will probably become very picky about the food he eats. Just curious: why do you want to change the brand? I would think that one would change only when one has some allergy to the formula, or that one doesn't like the taste.
  6. CPA is geared towards the accounting profession, while CFA is geared towards the banking/financial services/investment profession. If you are looking to do business analysis, market research etc. (which are very broad as it could be literally anything), CFA and CPA can be both useful, but they are not necessary either (depending on what you do). You have to be more specfic about your 'business analysis, market research' type of jobs.
  7. Errr... only time you pay a lot for your legs is when you get bionic legs (Six Million Dollar Man). Shoes, boots..... these are accessories lah....
  8. Errrrr if wife is too young, people would think that old guy is going out with his daughter. I meant my daughter is only 1year old *now*. !!
  9. Yeah. I wanted to say headboard and the 'end-board', but don't know the right term for the 'end' board. Still, the body frame could be made of wood, with only the metal headboard and 'end-board'.
  10. I behave like an old uncle because I *am* an old uncle. 1979? I got my 'O' levels already. Yet my daughter is only 1 year old.....
  11. I can't remember where I have seen these, but I have seen them before. However, I don't know if they are genuine wrought iron bed frames, or just normal ones with just the wrought iron headboards.
  12. I bought the PS3 when it was first launched in Singapore, so I voted for that. The PS3 is more than a game machine. It is a fairly decent Blu-ray player and you can even surf the net on it. For 'pure' gameplay, the Wii is probably rated by many as the best of the 3. However, Wii hardware seems to be a bit under-powered, considering that this is the next generation of game console. I'll probably get a Wii at a later stage though.
  13. No time to dance liao, so how to be trim? My daughter seems to like men more than women. She prefers my father to my mum.... in fact, she gets very excited when she sees my father. On the other hand, she prefers my nieces to my nephews... Aiyah.. my recent purchases are for both myselfs and my wife. She is thinking of doing a photo book of my daughter, so gonna have the right hardware and software. Also, I'm looking to do some private research of my own, so I thought I get the things ready.
  14. You are counting the days too? My daughter turned 1 yesterday.
  15. If you have conference calls with people from London and New York, you will find that there is no such time as a good time for all parties. Between New York and Singapore, one will have to have it in the early morning and the other at night. To have London in there, we can only have morning meetings for New York and night meetings for Singapore (the other way doesn't work because it would be middle of the night for London).
  16. I guess most of us who do cleaning will realise how tiring a process this can be. That's why some of us are always on the look-out for good cleaning appliances. If you look around, there have been discussions about what some of these are. For example, some of us find the Scotch Brite mops to be very good at mopping the floor. Others like to use the Magic Mop for picking up dust on the floor. And if you are really into gadgets, there are those robo-vac which goes around vacuuming/sweeping the floor on its own unattended.
  17. My daughter seems to stick to me more than my wife. Last night, my wife was just 'complaining' that it takes her the weekdays to make my daughter choose her over me, but after a weekend, my daughter prefers me to her. I told my wife that my daughter prefers me to her because I am fatter and thus offer more cushion support when I carry her. 'Revamp' your place? More reno again? Or just preparing to move in permanently (if you have not already done so).
  18. Hi Chipee! Long time never see you post! How's life? My daughter turned 1 year old yesterday! We had a small birthday party for her on Saturday. She is really a handful. My friend says girls are easier to look after than boys, but in my case, I doubt if my girl is any easier to look after than boys. In fact, she is so active that you would never guess that she is a girl. I've seen my friends' boys and they are less active than her. She can't sit still and has even tried to climb out of her pram..... even though she still cannot stand unaided. Just saw my table top yesterday. You see, I was building a new PC and needed it to be near my monitor. So I just chuck everything to the floor, clear up a space on the table and put it there.
  19. I have several spare routers, but I don't think any of them can be set up as a bridge. Yeah latency would be one issue... that was why I bought high gain antennae rather than a bridge. I have a feeling that the PS3 may not be compaitble with the DIR-655. Read reports about disconnect problems on the internet for this set-up.
  20. Got those +9 dB antennae from Media-Pro. It improved reception a bit for my PS3, but still having connection drop very frequently (so much so that I couldn't upgrade the firmware if I leave the PS3 downstairs). I'm thinking of setting up a wireless bridge. I think the Dlink DIR-655 is a very good router. A bit more costly though. Another widely recommended wireless is the Buffalo, which you can use either the default firmware or the a 3rd party one. I'm tempted to get one just to try out (and then recycle this and replace an old SMC wireless B router). I bought the PS3 the day it was launched in Singapore (during the IT show... not the recent PC show but the one before that). I got a few games but haven't been playing much. Heck, I haven't even try Resistance, which came with the PS3 on Day 1. So far, I only playing the Marvel Alliance. Last Sunday, my nephew came over and just managed to get past the krackon stage (which I was stucked for a long while).
  21. No. The home PC is used more for fun and leisure. My wife uses the PC for work (when she was working part-time), and I used it for games/surfing etc. I also use my PC for personal research work (not doing much of that lately). Also, we use it for editing photos, videos etc. The study room was one of the most important room for us, and when we were doing the renovation, we spent some time trying to design a set-up that allows both of us to work. Design-wise, we are quite pleased with ourselves, but the implementation by the ID/contractor leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, am using the Wireless N. Recently upgraded from a Linksys WRT54SRX to the Dlink DIR-655. But my PS3 in my living room downstairs still have problems with signals. The Canon printer in the picture is wireless G, and I have a wireless G camera (Linksys MVC200) in another room.
  22. Cable tying is never my forte. Here's how my PC looks like before I did some tidying up of the wires/cables: After some tidying, Anyway, I have too many gadgets and therefore too many cables. You can see from the pictures below:
  23. When I got married and for the first few months, we didn't have a maid, one piece of advice given by my colleagues was most appropriate: if we want to have a good quality of life and have time together as a couple to do couple things, then we should outsource the domestic chores. As an investment banker, I work long hours and weekends were the only free time for me. My wife works (used to... she has quit) as an editor for children books, and often has to bring work home (proof-reading etc.). If we still spend our free time doing domestic chores, we will not have any time for each other. We didn't believe initially, and we found out that we actually ended up being more tired after the weekend because of the work (okay... I live in a big house, but that's not the point). Once, I even broke my wrist while scrubbing the kitchen floor..... something which in hindsight was really pointless. My wife is one of those who does not believe in having a maid. But like it or not, we have to have one (we have a baby girl now). Yes, outsourcing domestic chores can be costly and often create more problems, but the end result is that we certainly have more time for each other.
  24. It depends on what you choose for the package. Those opting for c-section would have more or less a fixed price, while those opting for inducement may have to pay more if c-section is being used ultimately. You may want to drop by the hospital and check with them. I believe Thomson Medical may be cheaper as they seems to be more focused on maternity services. But check with your obsgyn to see if he/she can deliver the baby in the specified hospital.
  25. Like many commodity prices in recent times, gold has appreciated significantly over the last few years. In Dec 2000, spot gold was trading at around USD 272.25 per ounce. The high was around USD 678.45 per own in Apr07, although the prices have dropped to around USD 648.79 today. If you are investing in physical gold, your main return comes from appreciation of gold prices (plus the luxury if wearing jewellery if your gold is in jewellery form). The disadvantage to investing in physical gold is that there is storage/insurance cost. You also lose out on 'gold interest', which is sort of like lending out the gold and charging an interest for it.
