  1. Hi everyone,

it has been a long time since I logged on. I even took down the pictures for privacy reasons (met some weirdo from other forum which changed my mind totally about how I should engage strangers on the internet), and yet still have people asking me for my contractor Room For Ideas (RFI) contacts, incredible. But I am sorry if i never reply any of you for months, i am not salesman for RFI lah, just a satisfied customer.

Just an update. Has been 1 years since i moved in. Everything is still in good condition (as expected, only 1 year what).

OK, just one thing that happened this 2 weeks, a kitchen cabinet glass door, the metal frame broke loose, so I thought, die lah, >1 year liao, wonder if Vincent will still entertain me. So i smsed him, and his immediate reply "Will chk 4 u and get back 2 u". I didn't contact him since, but the following week, Vincent contacted me and ask me when can his guys come to my place. So his guys came and fix for me FOC, now good as new. This is something I really appreciate about Vincent and Room For Ideas, exceptional aftersales service even after so long. Only one word to describe, Priceless.

But still I dont think I will continue to log in to this forum to reply with Vincent or Willie's contact numbers. So I guess the next best thing I can do is to link you to other Renotalkers who has engaged RFI, hopefully they can pass you the contacts. So all the best to those who engage RFI for their reno. I certainly have no regrets.

Links of other renotalkers who uses Room For Ideas, pls try to get contacts from them:

    Link 1

    Link 2

    Link 3

    Link 4

    Link 5

    Bye Bye Renotalk!

  2. So far so good. Willie has been accommodative to our fickleness. Its sometimes hard to visualise what we really want until the last moment. Sgnick is right, no blackface, no crap excuses, no ninja invisible tactics. He makes his presence felt throughout the project. Not bad, I like Willie. I'd gladly pay more for his service. If any of you guys wanna see the progress of the renovation or the final stage of my apartment, you can contact Willie.

Hi, your place is a condo?

  3. I have lost count of the number of people who have asked me for my contractor contacts.

For those who manage to get good quote from RFI and engaged them, wish u a happy and successful reno.

But i will also like to take this opportunity to say that do understand the difference between a contractor and a ID. The contractor coordinates the renovation, but they won't be there 8 hrs a day to supervise the workers every step of the way. On most days, they will pass some instructions in the morning, then be off to another site. Next day they will come take a look at the work done, pass instructions, then off again. So to have a happy reno, do spend as much time as you can afford to monitor the progress of the work, feedback quickly to the workers on site or to the contractors if anything is not done according to the plans or design. The more hardworking u r, the happier will be the end result. Miscommunication and misunderstanding is also minimized.

  4. And finally, most importantly, RFeviews of ID/contractor!

    Willie from rooms for ideas

    Pro...

He is a very nice guy who always smile and luff... never seen him frown before...

His ideas are usually pratical and he thinks of all possiblities.... he is as good as a designer.... (i don realli noe the diff betw id and contractor) the 3D drawing which he outsource to was nicely done.

Design concepts are good.. love the back of my shoe cabinet, tml i take pic.... he said it will be ugly to open the door and see a patch black wall, so he said he will design for us.. and i love it.... thats very nice of him to think of that.... he thinks of things that he overlook and advise us accordingly... an dhe solve my glass door problem.. super happy la.. cant wait for my glass door to be up.... and becos hubby fdon wan transparent... but i want transparent.. so Willie came up with a special design for us.... =)

His workers are generally nice and experience... but i caught them smoking in my hse la.... the tiler is not so good.... the electrical uncle is very friendly and kind... the capentry workers are alright....

He is not a calculative person... as i mentioned earlier, payment was made vry very late, but he was very understanding.... this one really must thumbs up for him...

He promised delivery before xmas, and it was very on time.... thumbs up... his work are always on time, or ahead of schedule.... thumbs up!

95% of the time, when he said he will get back to me about something, he will.. the other 5% when he is busy he forgot... but when we bug again, he rem. hahaha

Accurate information provided almost all the time.... willie is a very careful and xi xin person.... he will rem what we said and include it in his plan. and i think he got very good memory, cos he don jot things down, but he will always rem...

He willingly and promptly rectify problems found.

    Cons...

Not much compaint about willie, except that he really reallly cld have been more involve in the whole reno... most of the time he is not ard, which surprises me... probably becos my initial expectation was that at least he sld be present in the beginning to instruct his workers.. but apparantly, it was not the case.

his workers are left to work on their own... the whole of the capentry work, i did nto see him...

Most of the defects are spotted by us... i donno whether this is normal anot la... but Willie don seem to be looking thru the pdt of his workers to ensure things are okay.. seems like he got total trust on his workers.. no need to check one...

When we ask him things, he tend to say "this one you must tell uncle, this one u must ask uncle". There was a pt where hubby said to me that we might as well hire uncle, not Willie... hmmm...

Was quite unhappy about the silicon thingy... Willie said that they use white sillicon cos painter suppose to paint it close to the wall color.. but there are parts where its black wall and black laminate, isn't it wiser to just use black silicon? i donno la... this one, realli donno.. a lot of things, i have no ideas if it is the painter job or the contractor job...

    tiing job - 7/10

    capentry - 6.5/10

    electrical & pumbling - 7/10

acid wash - 5/10 (almost no use at all)

    service - 8/10

    involvment of Contractor - 5.5/10

    attitude of contractor - 9/10

    designs n ideas - 8/10

    price - 8/10

    overall - 8/10

i Will recommend Willie....although he is always not ard, but i guess the most impt thing is his willingness to rectify problems. Only issue is the sillicon thingy... the rest of the things, i think Willie did a pretty good job!

it is impt to find a sincere person to do the reno.... and i think he got a really good attitude.

Overall reno is a plesant experience for me. :D

Good and unbiased review of Willie with both good and bad points, I will use some of your points when I recommend willie to others. Everyone should have the chance to know what to expect before they engage certain contractors, and engage only if can accept the cons, but overall most important must be good experience.

  5. Welcome to the renoed by Room-For-Ideas family, lol

Sorry i didn't know about your thread till now.

Your design and reno looks great.

During reno sure will spot 101 problems one lah, just make sure u keep a checklist of all the things u want rectified, and also a copy to Willie. Most important thing about reno is not about trying to get everything 100% right the first time (which ID or contractor can do that?), but to be able to rectify most if not all the things in your list. Anything not happy just ask Willie to rectify till you song song, anyway u haven't paid him the final payment yet right? He should responsible enough to want to do a good job for all his customers, his business all comes from word of mouth, he didnt even have any presense in Renotalk until I started posting, so customer satisfaction is important to him.

Anyway, do provide more feedback on Willie and RFI here, so that I know whether to continue to recommend them to others or not.

  6. Hi there

I love your curtains...but i will be going for roller blinds instead..bcuz i have 2 boys which can ruin those expensive curtains..haha

May I know what is the average price of your curtains per sqft? If they are cheap, I can perhaps get it for my living area.

    Thanks for the help!

Opps, sorry, I can't really remember, but I choose the not too expensive material.

I lost the breakdown of the costing, but the total cost is $1300 for

    All curtain rails

Living room full length Day+Night curtains

4x bedrooms half length Night curtains

  7. ohh ok.. maybe i used to those original HDB casement handle that thich n solid type. i look at my bro's condo the casement handle also solid and thick one. my ID said probably alex gave me cheap material for the cheap price i paid. now still considering whether to do grille with alex or not..

Windows handles will corode long before they will break, I changed all the handles on the original HDB windows myself due to corrosion :)

    Handle - $4

    Rivert Gun - $12

    Rivet - cents

  8. yo sgnick bro, wanna check with u on alex's installed windows. mine were installed everything except grilles yesterday.

    1. Casement handles a bit skinny thin and frenzy. Machiam can break it when used too much force on them.

    2. Alex told me that casement handles got no lock one. But i remembered fromone thread that owner requested lock set for all casement handles. -_-!

    3. Sliding windows can shake when i sldie them. I could also lift up the windows a bit from the sliding track, and ccould feel that they are not tighly fit in.

Wanna check if yours have any problems like that?

All casement windows handles can break with force, even original HDB casement handle in kitchen also break before. :)

My casement windows installed by Alex have no lock (means no key to lock/unlock)

Hmmm, I don't feel any shaking of the sliding windows installed by alex, but i can go home and test again later.
