  1. Is not difficult to find a good contractor, just nee to ask and I believe most fellow forumer are more then happy to share. Happy hunting!
  2. Bamboo are eco friendly too.
  3. Try other shop. When you buy WC & basin from them, they will sell you the acc separately. A few dollar here and there can add up to few hundred dollars. e.g. You buy basin, they will sell you the stopper and the under water trap separately. I brought the same model from another shop, all acc come included. 1 basin I save about $30. Just the hood and cooker, 2 x WC, 2 x basin set, I save about $300 compare to them. I don't like their business practices too.
  4. It is difficult to compare item by item. Looking at the overall figure is more practical. Pick the lowest overall quote and nego further as a package.
  5. Thks MM! juz saw your t-blog, very interesting.
  6. Hey MM Interesting design, how is the reno going? Any pic update soon?
  7. Wa SS! let the ID & contractor "tan jai" a little bit lah!
  8. First of all, you must know what you want. Do some internet research. Read the t-blog Get a few ID & contractor to quote you exactly the same works. You will be surprise, how much different can the quote be. Tell them exactly what you want and don't be push into doing something that you don't need. Most of the ID I met try to do this, I think this is how they make the more money, especially the carpentry works. Hope this help. Cheer!
  9. Day 3 All the hacking was done on the 1st day. Rubbish clear on the 2nd day. Tiles, cement and sand are all up in the unit by end of the 2nd day. So far so good for 老和 the Old skool contractor!
  10. old skool & effective He sent his man to start work before I even pay him any deposit.
  11. Renovation day one 9/12: The hacking........ Living Kitchen MDR View from MBR to 3rd bedroom, the store room is gone
  12. The original condition: Living Kitchen ceiling Kitchen cabinet MBR
  13. The idea: To create a warm, cozy and simple home.
  14. The problem with ID is that they like to suggest lots of carpentry work. Which could add a few thousand more to the reno. I got a few quote from a few ID, the lowest quote is $65k. BTW: If your budget is below $50k, you can hardly find a ID. Most will turn you away. My new home just started reno, the initial quote is $40k. If you are going to engage a contractor, make sure you do lots of research, time and know what you want. Is it worth the time and effort for $25K? For me, is a YES! Most importantly, I enjoy and learn a lots things from the process. I'll be starting my Reno t-Blog soon.
  15. I heard many good tiler are working for the 2 IR and big condo project hence the shortage of good tiler.
  16. To find out someone is just helping a fellow forumer without any motive (social norms) or is he just helping to "help" himself(market norms), just click on his ID on the left side and look at his post history. Open your eyes and read. Don't get into yet another "Soon" here, you already have enough of "Soon" problems already. I believe most forumer are good, just a handful out there who are looking for market opportunities. I wonder....... Why can't they just say, "I'm a contractor, I think I can help"
  17. I may be friendly but I'm no carrot!
  18. What some research and home-works can do? My 1st quote from a "Old family friend" = $57,000.00 2nd quote from one of the popular contractor in this forum = $47,000.00 3rd quote from a neighborhood contractor (Non-renoTalk) = $37,000.00 4th quote from a contractor that a friend recommended (Non-renoTalk) = $37,000.00 All the above spec given for the quote are about 90% similar. I wonder! How the h*ll could the quotation be $20,000.00 difference?
  19. Stop feeling sorry for yourself & stop letting Ah Soon get his way! TEAM UP! GET ALL THE OUTSTANDING JOB HOME OWNERS TOGETHER, MEET HIM TOGETHER, PUSH HIM! LET HIM KNOW YOU PEOPLE ARE VERY UPSET ABOUT THE WHOLE THING. 团结就是力量!
  20. Seashell, The problem is that there are many people like jesslyntan, who just want their reno to be complete on time. "sue" is not in the vocabulary of most people. If one want your jobs, he will promise you "sky & land" but once contract are sign. the airplan start flying. Four month of wait???? Seashell, you ready "tok kong".
  21. There are lots of contractor out there that is compatible to his price. You just have to do your home work.
