  1. I need someone to redo my door frame so I can have thicker doors, any recommendations?
  2. I have a rough idea of what the guy told me somewhere but that included doing everything.... else in the house...lemme see if i can find it
  3. So i called Central Alum and to remove the what I would call the left and right rails that the shutters r attached to and to construct a framed glass thingy that would be placed in the cavity, permits and no elec no fan 176 per unit. But it would be alum framing and frosted glass. Anyone else has experience with exhaust fans and doing what I wanna do? A proper install not some hack hob with acrylic? I lost track of thread i saw on here which gave a name of someone else Sharon or something I don remb which company it is... Any leads would be appreciated thanks
  4. one thing I cant figure out is why didnt you make your walls flush with the beams?
  5. I wouldnt expect it to cost too how much can 6 pieces of granite and labour cost..... and that little space will make a HUGE difference seeing how little space I have to begin with. I expect the removal of the wall the fixing of the floor and the creation of the new door ways and false wall in the other room to cost no more than 2K and 3 if I am going for special door frames and doors. which I intend to do... especially for my room I want as sound proof a door as possible. I am expecting a quote next week I'll update
  6. has anyone actually tried that company a year or so ago I got them to come and do a quote but I was too busy to deal with it then ... I'd prefer if there was some first had experience.
  7. have u used them for interior doors? I am looking for good quality interior doors. custom stuff
  8. Anyone have any experience with this company? Reviews? THANKS
  9. I am still looking been procrastinating for some time.... thing is I dont want to remove my granite skirting so I have to get something that is able to fit above and cover it.
  10. Also you can see from the last pic above 3 slabs of granite from each side of the wall would have to be replaced to make the floor look proper again. I have 2 slabs I can use to do a simple patch up job but it will ruin the look of the whole floor.
  11. Many years ago I had the store door walled up and the side wall demolished to create a space of a open concept wardrobe. Now the idea is I need more space, so I intend to have that wall knocked down and my current door area removed therefore creating one open space and moving the door to the archway area you can see in the foreground of the picture. The existing doorway into the other room on the right will be my new walk in closet...3 or 4 feet into that door way I will erect a wall/prob from drywall(gypsum board) and metal/wood frame. And another access door will have to be created in living room to provide access to the other part of that room. I am hoping to use this thread to document the process, get recommendations for contractors and granite specialists etc. By jdanielca at 2012-01-30 The wall side view: By jdanielca at 2012-01-30
  12. After much research I think the best way to do this is through the windows.... and sliding windows are a big no no. the cheapest way to cut down the noise is to install another set of air tight windows where usually people would have their window grilles. This option is the less aesthetically pleasing. But the way it works is dead air space. Air insulates against temp and sound. I for one do not like the idea of having makeshift type stuff done, so I am going to remove my existing sliding windows in the bedrooms and replacing them with casement windows. As to what sort of casement windows and from where that has yet to be decided. The key is to get double glazed.. and you would want to have as much air space between the 2 glass panes as possible.. thats your insulation... ALSO most importantly you want a tight fit in the construction of the frame and all that you have holes and leaks there is no point... last but not least rubber gaskets all around the seal where the windows closes.. when you close the window and lock it in place u need to feel that u need some effort to do this and you are compressing the rubber gaskets to create a seal... if you do not have this then it is not what you want. I find it very difficult to find this.. in my condo in canada ll the windows were like this.. in paris.. all the windows are like that too u close the windows and you hear NOTHING...... So far Sapphire windows provide the best possible solution but i have yet to go and take a look for myself.. vinyl would mean all the connections are fused.. so there is no possibility of a leak... but I need to go take a look at the actual window to see about the gaskets and seals etc... it is quite expensive 2 windows... 2 panes and 3 panes would cost close to 4K. And this is laminated...glass I have yet to ask them about double glazed...
  13. i have louvered windows in both toilets, master has one pane and kitchen its 2 side by side. It looks to me that the louver system is attached to 2 'rails' on each side and that in turn is mounted/screwed on to the frame... so cant they just remove one set of louvers and install a fixed glass thing and attach the fan to it? removing the whole window will undoubtedly ruin the tile work beside it. I've asked some companies before and they were saying oh you have to change the whole thing and all that bull**** but I think they just wanna do a bigger job and get more money out of me. Also what is this "MaCe $ave Money Blog" someone was talking about... mentioned something about louvered windows etc... I am not a fan of the idea of slapping the plexi glass over it.. I do not like the look I want the glass to be mounted in a frame put into place inside the existing window frame. THANKS
  14. do they have a website? google came up with nothing
  15. Hi guys I need a couple of things done. I need a wall which was erected to cover up a previous store room door way taken down. I need to save my existing granite floor in the area... I need to replace about 6 tiles which I think are 2ft by 2ft tiles. - thats the extent of the wet work. The rest is just doors and carpentry. So any recommendations for granite flooring ppl? THANKS
  16. btw I am also looking into solutions for noise coming from outdoors, which isnt my only noise problem but a good place to start and I have figured the only good way to do it is to spend money and swap the windows... good quality double glazed windows aluminium is ok but must be well constructed and have thick rubber seals, but upvc seems to be the best in terms or sound but they cost about 1500 for a 2 panel window up to 2400 for a 3 panel casement window..... but I am pretty sure if the are measured right and fit tight into the cavity with as little useless white concrete filler in between, your room should be pretty much airtight to the outside.. problem is here in singapore theres no winter.. so theres no problem of heat loss.. there isnt much out there in terms of making windows pretty much airtight to keep in the heat.. like what we have in canada.. so we are pretty much out of luck and those that do dont do em for HDB so.....even if you have money to spend... you may not be able to get whats best....the windows I mentioned above are from sapphire windows... tomorrow is the day I am going to call up some more contractors I have found, we shall see if anyone of them do HDB
  17. hey there where did you chance upon the URL would love to get the contacts of the person who had it down or the people who did it. Thanks
  18. ddepends on what is the chrome on.. plastics, metal... or and only thing that would not oxidise (green spots) is good quality stainless steel... but if its chromed or polished nickel ( theres a diff) brass like Grohe then it should be fine.... try googling polished nickel and chrome plating etc.
  19. I kept seeing threads about an "uncle" so and so but I am not sure if people have actually used him and are satisfied with the work. I cannot really find the thread anymore , links and pics would help lots. I am looking to move some door openings, take down a small wall, seal up existing door opening etc......which would involve some patching n hacking of my existing granite floor. I am also looking for good drywall and gypsum board people.... when I say good I mean people who knows the product, able to source the exact product I want and install it not... those typical people who use one product only know one way of doing something and just churn out jobs . abit difficult in Singapore I think.. but i am hoping
  20. You do know if you use the RIGHT kind of sealant meant to be mould and mildew resistant there would not be an issue with it turning black etc...thats all fungus and mould
