  1. Another lighting company that is worth considering is Light & Form (also along Balestier Road, a corner shop). I understand that they import their lightings mostly from China in container and you will be surprised that some of their light design are uniquely different from other lighting shops. I was told by my electrician that the ballast quality is of a better quality compare to those normal $18-$20 PLC lighting. Service was good as well as I faced some problem during the setup and the lady boss came together with his engineer to support the electrician immediately. Look for a lady call Samantha Ong, tell her an owner from maplewoods recommended, she'll give you a good recommendation for your lighting layout. BTW, I didn't wen with a ID/contractor, I dun make commission but just sharing my experiences with good contacts that I got to know during my reno.
  2. Still little small items... but I am ready to move in next Monday liao.. Last week was really exciting with so many things going in.. This week is the final set-up and touch-up.. Jason's and his team especially his Project Manager is making sure the house is shine and clean for handover this Thursday. Even with some delay, I am really please with Jason's team effort to put everything in place.. Thumbs up for Jason Goh (The one and only U & B Design and Renovation)!!
  3. Hi Seashell, Good to know that you are close to moving in.. I am hoping to move in by mid next week, still left with installation of kitchen cabinet, TV console, WIW, solid surface, vanity top, glasswork and plumbing work. Jason commited that all except solid surface & vanity top will be done by this week, the remaining I hope will be done before I move in. Keep my finger cross. Marginally cross a little over the schedule but I am getting a bit excited on the schedule of Corian solid surface installation.
  4. You may not expect fantastic 3D drawings from Jason, but he is good at sketching our a quick 3D design with his pencil. His Project Manager is an ID by profession, so depending on how Jason deal with your project. My recommendation is that you read up some ID magazines, meet with some ID companies to get an idea on the space planning, design, theme and color. Have some photos and magazine cut-out and share with him during your visit. With Jason's team experience, they are good at the final touch of making the job neat and nice. Also you can have a good comparison on the cost when meet with Jason. Workmanship is very subjective to individual and you should try to visit some of Jason's reno site to have a look at yourself.
  5. Count me in with your house moving... I have a pair of hands and a car that can transport your things. PM me as your inbox is full..
  6. It's all about managing expectations.. give some buffer and try to be involved in the project, u will have fun seeing the project through and making new friends..
  7. As owner, I always believe in playing our part to monitor the progress and avoid changes if possible, this will help to minimise delay and $$$. So far this has work for me since I visit the site most of the day and Jason's Project Manager is regularly there each day too. We were able to exchange ideas before the actual work is cement. Modification/Add-on cost on items that deviate from agreed quote, his charges are really reasonable. He deserve to be keep busy for what his team has been progressing on my reno. Met with Jason last Saturday evening and he told me that he had handover many units over the last 2 weeks, so he is ready to receive more job/RFQ.
  8. It suppose it is out of good will that Jason step into Seashell's case. With Jason's current experience of handling these touch-up, it's just quick task, and spending a few $/effort that will give Seashell a peace of mind after 6 months of wait, I believe Jason's kind heart tell him to do it. My home reno with Jason was at 10-15% a week ago, this week it ramped up to 50-60% completion. I can see that Jason's team is on high gear to complete my HO by year end. I'm keeping my finger cross.
  9. That is quite true that Ah Tan is overloaded and he didn't accepted my house re-wiring job too. Since that you have already paid Ah Tan, I'm sure through some connection between Jason, Ah Tan will appear before you.
  10. It's his workers that give me the confidence!! Give me a call if I can be of some help to you..
  11. Jason, so far you have done GREAT! I am okay with delay for a day or 2 as it is common these days for a busy contractor like you, as long as I can move in by end of the year. A lot of time, your assurance are proven from your team of workers, very experience and provide good recommendation. You can be assured your payment will be promptly paid on time. As soon as my home is almost done, if some forumers are interested to checkout's Jason quality of work, I am happy to share my experience and house visiting. PM me around year end as you may see 90-100% of Jason's work.
  12. Jason, A thumbs up to you! You have so far progressing my renovation on schedule and I am looking forward to moving the next stage. To all forumers, I am just another forumers that did some search for a reliable and comfortable contractor to handle my reno, and eventually decided to work with Jason after speaking and visiting some of Jason's client houses. He is a person that value friendship and man of his words. So far, I am pleased with his team of workers even his hackers. They happen to hack into a conceal gas pipe but were quick to own up so that rectification work can be done. For now, I believe Jason is expediting to get all his projects completed b4 CNY, so if your reno schedule is after CNY, I am sure Jason will be more than happy to meet with you. In about 3-4 weeks time, I believe my house will be almost close to completion and I will be happy to share with more forumers of Jason's work. Great job, Jason and your team!
  13. Actually, I didn't calculated the number of switches and lighting pts, but as my electrical work are all concealed, it cost double in most cases compare with casing type. But I think your quote is reasonable as it is quite a norm to expect anything above $1.2K. I spend $2K just on re-wiring & re-locating.
  14. From the many responses on Ah Soon and Jason, I think there is a distinct differentiation for these 2 gentlemen. One that keep on taking on jobs when he can't any further, and the other has stopped taking any jobs when he can't handle. I believe Jason knows how many reno work he can managed with his staff and he accept the reno when he can handle. Actually Jason engage a project manager to coordinate the activities. My house hacking work with Jason has just commenced late last week as schedule and it is completing today. It's a lot of hacking work involve. Somehow, one has to be comfortable with your reno partner and also Owner should put in some efforts to check on-site to correct any error/changes in order to minmise change or rework. This will help to reduce the chance of delay. That's my thoughts. We shouldn't just blame the contractor, give some additional schedule to cushion any delay (if any) and you will be a happy man even when there is slight delay. I am checking my reno activities each day and we have a weekly progress update with Jason's Project Manager. I am pretty happy with Jason and his people.
