  1. hi.. newbie on reno here. I'm getting confused on tiles and backsplashes. Hope someone can help me. Backsplash is placed on the length of the kitchen above the countertop right? Do you still have to have tiles on the other areas, like walls and inside the cabinets? Or if I choose a glass backsplash, I don't need tiles anymore for the rest of the kitchen walls?
  2. Hi.. I'm a bit clueless about aircons.. We are planning to change the aircon pipings in our unit. Initially, we are set on having concealed pipings, but when canvassing, most don't offer concealed pipings. Just box up the pipes. For unconcealed, where do they usually run the pipes? I can't imagine where it will pass to get to the condenser (esp. the room aircons). How do owners usually conceal those pipes? Using false ceiling? Our unit is a condo, and I'm not even sure if unconcealed is allowed. Went to ask at gain city also. The said they need to do onsite visit to give a quote, but they never mentioned that we need to pay first before they visit. Do they really collect money first?
  3. Hi Nirvana, Tried to PM you but your inbox is full. Could you share your reno excel with me? I'm about to start scouting for reno contractors and I'm on a limited bugdet also. I'm hoping your excel can help me out. Thanks-thanks!
  4. Hi.. Can you share the contact info of your contractor? I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your renovations Thanks!
  5. hi.. I'm a newbie here and new at renovation concepts also. I have a basic question and so sorry if it is a silly question What's the difference between an ID and a contractor? I suppose ID provides more design ideas and concepts? Does it mean I cannot expect that from a contractor and that I'd have to specify the design to the contractor and he'll execute it? How come sometimes I see quotations from contractors that are as expensive as an ID? BTW, I did a search in the forum for a similar topic and didn't find one. If there is an existing thread on this, I'd be grateful if you point me in the right direction.
  6. hi.. can you PM me your ID's contact also? I really like the design of your house tnx-tnx!
  7. Thanks for the replies. Actually, one of the contractors we are looking at has visited the unit and he says that the measurements are 5ft(w)x10ft(h). I measured the current unit we are renting and it's just around 8ft. I'm not sure if I heard him wrongly or the ceiling is really that high? I'll have to check again our next visit. I'll check out ikeafans also. I might find some tips. Really want to maximize space to fit more clothes
  8. hi.. new here.. I've been looking around for wardrobe ideas and I'm getting more and more confused Hubby and I went to IKEA to check out their wardrobe units and found it very nice. And while browsing around this forum I found some wardrobe pictures that are quite nice also. Can someone share their ideas on which one is better? IKEA ones, I liked it coz the options for drawers / compartments, etc are already there. And if we think we lack some more compartments, we can just change it easily coz it's designed to be customizable. On the downside, it's not going to be an exact fit to the rooms (meaning the height). There would be a space on top that cannot be maximized. For built-in ones, I really don't know where to start. Not sure how to describe to our contractor what I want (esp since I cannot decide on what I want ) Don't know also if I can be assured of the quality of the finished product. It might not be nice as I envisioned it to be. Also, can anyone share around how much a built-in wardrobe will cost? Those sliding door type? In IKEA, the 150x236cm (5ftx7.5ft) ranges from $2000 to $3000 thanks!
