  1. Cornice guy came in the late afternoon. Thought it was the same guy as the one who seal the window. But it was an older guy with a Bangladesh helper. The Bangladesh man kept disappearing and I was so worried where he was and what he was doing in my house so I kept checking other rooms and kitchen. The older kept yelling at him and they create such a mess that both my helper and myself spent 2 hours cleaning. The putty for patching is all over my wardrobe, even inside the wardrobe, all over the WIP TV console, all over the wall, the window and even my toilet wall and doors and along the hallway and the kitchen. I offered them drinks and I found the drink spilled all over my bench at the gate and the empty can on the road. Without saying, you can't expect good workmanship from such people. Will definitely need some touch up. :-(
  2. We found this simple yet elegant switches and dimmer for our bedside tables. What do you think?
  3. The Carperters are not coming today!!! And my hubby is running out of patience. We have been sleeping in our living room in order for the work to be carry out faster. But it seems like its dragging on... The wardrobe is almost finished but I'm having trouble opening the drawers due to the slope on the drawer is not slanted enough to allow my fingers to grip on it properly. This is the pic of the drawer. Thickness measures 15mm and slope gradient is not good enough for the fingers to grip onto the drawers to pull open. This is the picture of an existing storage TV cabinet in our living area. The thickness is 18mm thick and given good gradient of the slope. The fingers sit in the gap and pulling drawers with full load seems so much easier.
  4. Well, no cleaning up during eve and Christmas Day, alright. Sigh! And no wardrobe and cabinets for the Christmas either. WIP: wardrobe: 90% completed bookshelf: 95% TV and dresser: 40% completed Bedside table: 0% 3 workers came but the progress is quite slow. Partly due to the slanted wall of the building and partly due to some errors in constructing the cabinet. Also, the soft closing mentioned during the initial negotiation was not conveyed to the carpenters, so the soft closing was supplied later and it does not fit in the drawers and carcass dimension. So there are rectification needed. And finally the IDs are out from their reservist and hope the progress will speed up and rectification are done properly soon. Tomorrow will be the start of the work again.
  5. Today is day 2 and the WIP:- 1) Wardrobe 90% complete 2) TV cum dresser 25% - stop work due to error in construction. 3) Bookshelf - no work being done except the carcass 4) Bedside table - no installation due to error in construction. I hope they will be able to rectify the error soon cause I really don't want to do cleaning up during Christmas eve and Christmas day. The tough part in this Reno is that I was told that both IDs in charge are having their reservist. Hope they can drop by when they have the time over this weekend.
  6. Why in the world do I want to pay $800 for 2 side tables that has storage space as small as a jewelery box? Drawer internal measures 32 x 18.5 cm.
  7. Today the carpenters supposed to come at 11am. But the electrician came at 9.30am and couldn't do anything. Then 5 carpenters came at almost 1pm and 3 left and then 2 started to work after 40 mins later. I'm really concern that 2 days work may drag on over the weekend. Well, keeping my finger cross and hope they do a good job.
  8. Thank you, IKEA! My hubby managed to find all the LED lightings under one roof. 2 LED lightings for the bedside table, 2 Auto sensor for the wardrobe and one for the dresser. Total cost $320.20 including cables which need to be bought separately.
  9. Finally, the carcass are here at 3pm. The workers started immediately but at a slow pace as there are lots of discussion with the electrician and ourselves. To our surprise, the electrician hired by TYASDESIGN did not come with all the required sockets, switches and LED lightings which are already included in the agreement. Hence, my husband ended getting all the switches and sockets instead. We called the ID and ensure that he provides all the led lightings but he was unable to get the lighting for my dresser as promised. So, my hubby will be running here and there tomorrow and hopefully he will be able to find it. Another issue that really upset me was that there was an error in the construction of my dresser. I have emailed to the ID and hopefully, he will give me a satisfactory reply soon. Here are some pics on the WIP.
  10. One top hung window sealed in order to build the wardrobe onto it. The workers are here but still waiting for the cabinets to be deliver.
  11. Bought 2 bedside lamps and a crystal wall light from Chan Huat @ Balestier Road. Total cost $740 including GST.
  12. Btw, can anyone teach me how to upload photos here? Greatly appreciate! :-)
  13. The carpenter came down twice after the first measurement. Firstly is due to the design I made for my tv console, then they came down again to ensure the handle that I selected is the correct one. On top of that, they fixed my kitchen cabinet for me. The kitchen was done 2 years ago by D--W-- interior. I'm so happy TYASDESIGN fixed it after all the rust and failed soft closing I have to bear for almost 2 years. Imagine my window lock fell off and I was so afraid as I've young kids around. I have to tie it with rope and keep chasing D--W-- to get it fixed. These are things you can expect from D--W-- and worst. This weekend TYASDESIGN is coming to demolish my cabinet and seal up one of the top hung window. And next Thursday, I'll have my long waited wardrobe and all new furnitures. Hope they do a good job, so that I can happily post some pictures to share here. ;-P
  14. After spending 10 months without a wardrobe. Thanks to Clo---Design for their sluggish response even after paying 40% down payment. Also thanks to Fer---Design for their no show. I finally engaged TYAS design. I have never expect such fast response and even a 3D drawings within 3-4 days. This is my 3rd renovation experience for my residence. It's quite nerve racking after a terrible experience with D--w-- Interior which cost me $21k for a kitchen with inferior materials, wrong dimension and 10 days delayed. I'm really very careful with my selection of the designer. Cause I'm still suffering from their lousy work. My dish tray is dripping again and this is the 4th time!!! What TYAS quoted me. The price is $8450 for a 9 ft TV console with dresser, 8 ft wardrobe, bookshelf with doors, 2 bedside tables, LED lights, demolition works, accessories for wardrobe and electrical works. But most importantly, I'm happy with their response and knowing that I've been without a wardrobe for so long, they are trying to get the job done within 2 weeks despite their very busy year end schedule. That's the kind of service that you can hardly find with most ID nowadays. Will post the updates and some pictures soon. Thanks for reading. :-)
  15. Thanks, Pigfarm. Yes, they do charge quite ex. Just adding 2 baskets and 2 drawers, they charge me $550. There are only hanging bars from their initial quote of $2,650. :-(
  16. It's been months that I've been looking for Design company to do up my masterbed room. The hanging bar in my wardrobe collapsed on the eve of this CNY. Since then, I been searching desperately for a wardrobe but decided to customize instead. I visited the Hoffen showroom and immediately fell in love with their design, materials and all the accessories. I wanted to sign up with them straight away, but my hubby insisted to visit one showroom (DC) in Jalan Besar as they are having promotion. After telling the designer our "wants", Mr A advised us to take up the better quality materials which were not having promo. My instinct is to walk out of the shop. But my hubby seems to like the idea and we made arrangement for the designer to view the site. He requested a deposit of $200 (we should just walk out) but hubby paid and so the story goes... ... The designer was puncture. Gave us 2 x 3D drawings of what we want after 1st meeting. And the last drawing of his own design was impressive. As my hubby was outstation most of the time. By then, it's May and we called him to proceed the order, but was told that he left the company. So after 2 weeks, Mr M, took over Mr A and called us to arrange a viewing. He gave us a confirmation order and said we have to pay $2,700 on the spot. We did, as we want to get it done. He said the last design from Mr A is not possible to build, so he'll give us another 3D drawings. After a week, his office called to advise on the date of demolition. But my response is, I haven't seen the design and no measure was taken where do they expect me to store my existing stuff? After another week, another girl called to arrange demolition, I told her Mr M has not give the 3D and she said she will chase him. And so I got my 3D after a month in July. And it's the lousiest design I ever seen. It looks like a factory cabinet. Straight away I rejected the drawing and request a new one. I called, emailed to highlight my requirements. Then started to chase him. After not getting any respond, my hubby and I made a trip to the showroom in early Sep. Mr M got a shock to see us and after talking, he said "why not just do the wardrobe?". My hubby patiently told him that we are giving him a chance to prove himself to be able to come up something better. And so, after a week, we received the design but was really disappointed. So I started to design on my own and emailed to him with all the details to execute. But he did not response at all. After chasing for 2 weeks. I dropped him a final email and demanded for a full refund. Straight away I got the response "Ok. Give me your full name to issue cheque." My experience with DC was good, not until the Mr M took over. He's very sluggish. Hence I posted for carpentry work in Renotalk and got a few response. I SMS to FR design because of a good review and made an appt 3 days later. And on that day, FR design smsed said they can't make it and never bother to call again. I guess they are out to make big bucks only and not interested to take small project. Luckily they showed their true self without much hassle.
  17. Got the quote: Wardrobe $2800 include 2 drawers and 2 baskets. Any addition got to top up. TV plus dresser $3300 2 BedSide tables $900 Bookshelf with partial doors $1000 Demolition work $300 Total cost now becomes $8300. No design or 3D drawings from ID. ID very prompt response. Seems very eager to close the deal ---------------------- Old quote I got last month but choose not to hire cause ID is not responsive and bad attitude. Wardrobe $3200 inclusive of all accessories TV cum dresser $2500 Bedside tables + Bookself $1500 Demolition work $150 Total cost $7350 ----------------------- Both Provide soft closing for drawers and abs trimmings. But it's almost $1000 difference.
  18. S$450 for a single drawer bedside table? I know that's definitely too ex! Sigh!
  19. I forgot to add. Do seek advise from the staff in all the tiles shop you visit and ask them which tiles suits toilet, kitchen and living areas. It really helps to jot down all details.
  20. I did my whole kitchen 2 years plus ago. Despite having ID, I ended sourcing the tiles, handles, laminates by myself. For tiles, you can take a look at this website http://www.sbh.com.sg/index.aspx?MenuID=3 Soon Bee Huat has lots of tiles to choose and from diff countries. I went for the Spain one cause the display piece shown its durable. They have very nice showroom with cabinets and bathroom upstairs. You can get some ideas from there. A mini play area for the kids too. The other one is Hafary at balestier. Remember not to get rough tiles for kitchen. The oil will stain and it's hard to scrub. Laminates, do go for Formica or Lamitak. Though your carpenter may say ex, but they do have lower range which is the same price as Jennings. But definitely more durable. To test it, bring back some samples and scratch it with rough object like keys. I happened to place the tiles with my laminates samples from 4 companies and at the end, I choose Formica because it's really tough and thicker. And it's $40 per piece, standard pricing quotes by most ID. Hope this helps.
  21. I really appreciate all the advice. The ID requested me to go to their factory today and see their quality. I must say I am quite please. They don't provide Blum system but they do include soft closing for all drawers. After amending the design and recalculation. The quote is $7800 excluding all the accessories like pullout tie hangers and baskets. I'll will post the breakdown of the quote once they email me the detail pricing.
  22. Thanks, Batman. It's HDB. My wardrobe is 8 ft x 8.5 ft. Dresser 3 ft. TV console 7ft L x 5.5 ft H. Bookshelf 2 ft L x 7 ft H.
  23. I'm going to give my MBR a new look. The quote I have for a wardrobe with sliding doors, TV console with storage, a mini dresser, 2 bedside table and a book shelf. Completely no Blum system and ABS trimming for all the doors only. They use plywood but not sure of the quality. The price is $9,500/-. I really appreciate if anyone who has done theirs before give me some advise. Thank you!
  24. Urgently looking for carpenter to do my wardrobe, TV console cum dresser and side tables. I came across Carpenters Production's website, but seems like there isn't any thread on them. I would like to know if anyone hired them before and would appreciate if you can share the experience. Greatly appreciate!
