  1. I'm sure you will be able to find IDs and contractors who will work through the 7th month. When I renovated my flat about 3-4 years ago, I started the renovations during the 7th month without any observances whatsoever because I do not believe in such things. My ID did not have a problem with the start date and schedule and the renovations went ahead smoothly. No one died during the renovations and no one reported seeing any spirits
  2. I had a large rug in the living room of my previous place (where the sofa seating area was) and I will certainly be having one for my new place. As for the dining table area, I didn't have one previously but I am considering having one at the new place. I can't imagine a home without a single piece of rug. In my view, the place would feel so cold and 'under-furnished' But if one has pets, young children and is a stickler for cleanliness and is terrified of bugs, mites and any other possible asthma contagions, then it's probably best to have an 'under-furnished' place.
  3. Probably, depending on how well you maintain the rug. But that won't stop me from having one in my living room, otherwise I might as well sleep on a wooden bed without sheets.
  4. Rugs really transform a room, making it much cosier and immediately upping the elegance factor of the place. The same goes for the dining room. Of course it is important that you keep the rug reasonably clean so avoid having a rug beneath your dining table if you have kids, or are yourselves messy eaters.
  5. Nope. The size (eg: 56") is measured from blade tip to opposite blade tip. In other words, it's the diameter of the circle that the fan blades make.
  6. Due to timing conveniences, I started renovations for my brand new HDB flat during the 7th month hungry ghost period. The ID did a good job and the renovations went smoothly. I have since sold the flat and am awaiting to move into a new private apartment. Personally, I have no hesitations in buying a new home / starting renovations / moving house anytime during the year, hungry ghost or no hungry ghost. When moving house, I have enough things to coordinate and take care off without having to worry about such stuff Although I do not have any empirical evidence, I seriously doubt that renovations started during the Hungry Ghost month will experience more difficulties/problems than renovations started at other times of the year. But of course if you have family members who are the superstitious sort, then it's best to avoid creating trouble for yourself. You will never win the "I told you so" argument if things do go wrong, however irrational it might be. Cheers.
