Hi hippobb, best wishes to ur new home
-
I don't think u need to change the altar. I'm changing altar because my existing altar is the fibreglass type that's hanging on the wall.
-
Yes u r right. According to wayonnet (by FSM TKY), all premises have their luck cycle too & there will be things that they can & cannot do during those periods of the months.

In Buddhism, the vase that points downwards is the "shui-yue guanyin" (shui: water; yue: moon). If you follow the buddhist practices closely, there will not be any concerns for a vase pointing downwards. But for ordinary folks worshipping at home, it is not advisable to have a vase pointing downwards. The older folks felt that it meant giving away everything: $, luck, job/ biz opportunities, health, etc... Which according to Buddhism, is utter nonsense & superstitions. Based on what I heard, it is surprising that the downward vase is indeed not too good...

I was told the same thing as U're mentioning now 10 years ago. But according to my relatives, who bought their statues from the rochor shops, they actually had the luck to bump into 1 uncle whose a medium. He was visiting his friends (the owners) & told them that the husband must choose the female deity's statue & the wife chooses the male deity's statue. He claimed that if the wife doesn't like the statue, then no choice... He recommended the statues based on the couple... I wasn't there to witness it myself but our relatives told us that the few that he recommended was more or less "compatible" with the couples who bought them. And the strange thing was I noticed that the guys who chose the guanyins would choose the statues that more or less resembled their spouse's expression... when I went to my aunt's housewarming at her new condo, the guan yin statue has eyes that looked like hers!! droppy eyes! The other uncle who chose the guanyin also chose one that had his wife's facial expression... all of us found it odd... My mother inlaw's guanyin statue (porcelain) was also chosen by my father inlaw without her involvement. It was a really small porcelain statue but the facial expression belonged to my mother inlaw who is 89 this year. The strangest thing is that the rosy areas seemed to have expanded over years. Face was very glossy. People who visited her would say things like the guanyin is definitely present in the statue. But there is really no right or wrong answers to how to choose the statues... just sharing something useful based on experiences.
-
Buddha lives in one's heart ... it doesn't matter whether ur guanyin is not as nice as the one in the temple... buddhism discourages cravings & emotional attachment (in your case, a more beautiful statue of guan yin). To worship a beautiful guanyin statue at home is not enough. U've got to practice what guanyin has inspired in humans & live your religion as a philosophy... as a way of life.

Is yours a 16" statue?
-
Is your mum's guan yin statue made of porcelain, wood or stone? I'm really keen to know because u mentioned "crack"... You can try heng moh seng - they have several units along that stretch of rochor retail stores... but the units r not joined in sequence. They r found all over that stretch of shops there. I was quite shocked to see that almost every shop that I stepped into has a "heng moh seng" written at the entrance!

hi cjloh, do u mind telling me what is your budget? U can message me if u prefer to. I could also try to message u the wholesaler's contact if u are really keen but I must mention that I have no idea on the quality. Those at rochor centres would have supposedly done their QC (quality control) before they display at the counter. As for the altar table, u could get those $100-$200+ type.
-
u can try at rochor centre. It's directly across the fulushou building. 1 long stretch of retailers there where u can pick & choose. but now is not the time because it's 7th month & the shops have kept most of their statues to make way for 7th mth "pu-tu" items. i saw 16" wooden statue where they quoted me $300+. I think if you go for porcelain, it'll be cheaper... what's your budget? maybe i can also ask my sis inlaw to see if she has any lobangs from wholesalers. She told me that it is really cheap & nice but i've not seen it myself. actually i'm looking for a new rosewood altar table & also to change my existing guanyin's "jing-shen". But will not be doing it now because 7th mth. No good to do it now. U can just survey & look around for now. by the way, do u mind if i were to ask about ur family nucleus, meaning that is the guan yin for a matrimonial home? If it's for a married couple, the male counterpart must be the one who chooses the guanyin statue. If the wife don't like also no choice. another tip: avoid choosing guanyin statues with a vase pointing DOWNWARDS.

Hi bepgof, thanks for sharing! This is something new to me & really interesting... Over in singapore, there is no space for those who stir up disharmony among races & religious differences. If they r dealing with politics. But ur experience in NS must be very interesting altho' challenging & underpaid. U get wind of all the juicy bits ahead of everyone -
I'm not sure if I'm out of line to share this incident which occured to a friend's relative who stayed in "Mah-Po", Malaysia. Not sure what that part of M'sia is known as in English. And I'm also not sure why it turned out that way so it's for readers for this discussion thread to judge for themselves. A couple of years back, the relative who was an elderly lady decided to worship to guanyin. She stayed together in a bungalow with her son & daughter inlaw with 2 maids. They already have an altar with guandi & tau pekong. A relative assisted her in acquiring & inviting a statue of guanyin from a temple back to their bungalow. Nothing was amiss initially, everything was ok until 1 day, her daughter inlaw got possessed by an evil spirit. There were instances in which my friend's cousin who visited the bungalow during a family gathering session, slammed the table & make gestures of stroking an imaginary beard from his chin. Then, charged out of the house with a stick to chase away something. And came back redfaced after the chasing. He was shocked & puzzled how he ended up outside the gate & holding onto (not sure, I can't recall) a stick or broom. My friend told us that his cousin's body was probabbly occupied by guandi to chase away the evil spirit in the house. Anyway, the situation got out of hand because the daughter inlaw started behaving strangely. 1 maid actually wanted to resign because she claimed that she heard 2 voices from her. Many things happened along the way. Their guan yin statue got really fierce looking with a fang-like, menancing look just like the daughter inlaw. The family got mediums, exorcists from everywhere but not only did the remedies backfire, the evil spirit got really out of hand & more aggressive. Eventually, they got a visiting lama from 1 of the temples who specialises in exorcism. He tried to help but he predicted that it was already too late by the time they travel back to Mahpoh. The lama also claimed that this is the karma of the daughter inlaw because the evil spirit could not be appeased & leave until she has gotten her soul. And true enough, by the time they reach home with the lama, the daughter inlaw was dead. Found entangled with huge bales of curtains & curtain threads, hanging from the curtain rods inside the bedroom, locked from within. When the police came, the neighbours who were interviewed claimed that they heard very loud screamings & commotions in the house. Their 2 maids asked for help but the neighbours said they were too frightened to get involved. They also heard 2 different voices screaming... It is really scary! My grandma's tua pekong statue was invited back after a company who went bust abandoned the statue in the 1950s. But everything was great for her because the statue has a very red, oily face with a wide smile after so many years of worship at her place. Friends who visited would always marvel at the condition of the statue. My grandpa passed away at the age of 100 yrs old & my grandma who is still living is 90 yrs old this year. Still fit & strong althoug she suffers from dementia. What's most important is that you must be comfortable with inviting the god back from the source.

hi bk888, I agree with u! Because in the past I used to know of people who always engage the troupe for lion dances during CNY (for their flats) & all of them had somewhat similar outcomes... One retail shop's lady boss agreed with our perception & shared with many of us that 1 lion troupe's member apparently found it strange that most of their clients' business went bust after the event. Not immediately but they could see their luck nose-diving gradually. My family members refused to let the lion troupe enter their homes, especially my grandma. Both she & my hubby claimed that the dieties (gods) at home would be scared off because of the clanking & commotion. 1 old neighbour even claimed that she stop winning 4D after that & her grandchildren staying in the flats kept falling sick. Her son got retrenched also. She disagreed that it was the FS for her home because everything has been smoothgoing for the family during these 20 years of staying in the flat. My chinese sinseh from Beijing told me that those stone lions guarding the home or placed on the "zai-yuan" (foyer or courtyard inside big houses) r meant for owners who r VERY wealthy, VERY affluent with power to influence political issues, influence stock market, etc. If an average working class (which most of us) or ordinary folks uses them, it is wrong FS & poor FS: the owners will get into big big trouble because it's counterproductive. Instead of guarding their owners, those lions would turn "wild" & go against them... Which is why you'll see stone lions outside temples because the gods there r supposedly powerful with potent abilities. And temples have lion dances every year & during special events too! But we don't see anything wrong with that because the dieties there r gods... Do u think this theory about stone lions applies to lion dance too? Most of us r ordinary folks, not an influential magnate in the world of $$ & power... Disclaimer: My remarks above is not targetted at criticising any lion troupes & their counterparts. It is meant only for sharing our experiences in this discussion thread. So I do apologise in advance to any readers for any discomfort when reading my remarks. thank you.

I've ever heard from a lady who engaged FSM from all over the world, including TKY fr s'pore. According to her, she claimed that if that foreign FSM has stayed in singapore for a very lond time, they'll more or less have "localised" their FS skills. She felt that those who flew in from other countries do not know the culture in S'pore & r no good. She said that she tried using those who flew in fr other countries & their recommendations don't work at all. I'm really not sure about what she has said but it shouldn't be the case at all. It should work if the FSM is very experienced. Mine is a Taiwanese FSM who is a s'pore PR. His recommendations worked really well for us. Ultimately, this lady blacklisted all those FSM who flew in fr other countries for FS audits.

Any idea if the quality is good? I don't really know how to see if it's good quality. Nowadays I'm very worried about stuff from china & I wondered about the quality, whether it'll withstand wear & tear... I'm thinking about getting a rosewood altar with those pearly stuff embedded into the wood carvings... Haiz... worse come to worse, I'll just buy the cheapo type if damaged then change again...

There are people with many lines on their palms but they might not necessarily be blue-collared workers. Those with messy lines are those who might be troubled & vexed throughout their lives. Also an indication of health conditions. Many politicians & the wealthy socialites out there have many lines on their plams. According to some schools of thoughts, it is also an indication of an old soul who had gone through many stages of reincarnation. It's good that you're willing to part with your $ to pursue your interests. Such books on geomency r interesting to me but for a fleeting moment. I'll simply read it once & that's it. That chinese set of books that u bought: an elderly neighbour from china mentioned it before when another mentioned about yellow living rooms & saying how disagreeable it was for him. I prefer reading & collecting case-study management books & phisophical texts like those of Buddhist philosophy. -
Hi folks, I'm posting this discussion thread here since it's related to religion. Anybody knows where I could get rosewood altar table of reasonable pricing & good quality? Went to sam tat's showroom @ macpherson but the pricing is very steep. 33" wide costs $1,680 (clearance pricing). Thank u in advance!

Hi stacyhunny, have u ever tried getting a copy of Joey Yap's book? He's fr M'sia. He has many books written in excellent English but I'm not sure if he has anything for Palmistry. His writeup with illustration for face-reading was worth reading. Straight forward & useful. I borrowed from the national library last year & I'm contemplating if I should buy his newly released books. cost a bomb! U could google his name & his website would be listed. -
Hi mdmsleepless, did u manage to approach the toa payoh medium who was first mentioned in this discussion thread? I'm happy for u that u've gotten the problems solved. One of my sister inlaw is also staying in the haunted flat bought direct fr HDB. In serangoon near circle line. The apparition of an old lady was sighted in the master bedroom but the family did nothing although my sister inlaw claimed that she shouted at the old lady many years ago. She kept pulling both my inlaws' feet when they were sleeping, also tugged at their hair when they bathe in the master bedrm's toilet. After so many years, peace prevailed altho' all my nieces & nephews will never dare go back on their own when my inlaws r not around.

Hi folks! I was told by those old uncles in the antique shops that elephants with an upward trunk r protectors & guardians of the owners for their home. Supposed to bring good luck & safety. If the elephant has a downward trunk then it is just an ordinary elephant with no special effects. I'm referring to those porcelain or stone bulky elephants which could look quite obiang, existed since the 1970s because my granny used to have both at the foyer of her bungalow ... I do not have one at home becox so obiang altho' a girlfriend of mine had one placed at the entrance of her living room. Her toddler daughter would ride on it. Never strike 4D because she & spouse never buy but they're doing well, lot's of bonuses & promotions. Just asked her how much was her upward trunk porcelain elephant: $30, from flea market.

Hi Jason, did you engage tan khoon yoong himself for his bazi services or was it done by other masters? Was it totally inaccurate? My parents went to him with my bazi when I was still in school & the bazi reading was a plain, bland-tasting sort of advice... I've gone to one of his other FS masters who was affliated to wayonnet a couple of years back & that joker uses the purple star astrology, like a mediocre or should I say, somebody whose fresh out of the school (for purple star astrology). It was a letdown compared to the skills of my own regular Taiwanese FS master. But there are still many people who felt that TKY is good, especially those who had a supposedly smooth-going sort of "ming" (life) with minor "downturns" or almost none. Some of our relatives were hot fans of TKY & raved so much about how great his FS expertise was. I just felt that he was way too commercialised: he even sells FS accessories, etc. Very good at $-making opporunities... My parents were his fans too. Anything related to geomency, they'll go to "TKY". Everything was "TKY" to them. But TKY's wayonnet do have good aftersales service & very thorough in his fengshui audits. And I noticed that TKY keeps in tandem with modern changes, incorporates stuff which r up-to-date & relevant to his business. He even brought along his architect to draw out the altar design for my parents' home. But his bazi reading for me differed from that of my FS master who uses the purple star astrology. I would give credits for accuracy to the one who uses purple star astrology. Even my dad agrees with this even though he likes to engage "TKY" for any geomency services.

Hi zappas8, further to my earlier response to your concern about bed placement, I would like to convey to you that apparently, there are people who are suited with their bed facing the window directly. This afternoon a neighbour staying at the lower floor needed help for babysitting her twin grand-daughters when the opennet staff came for installation of the fibre termination box. So I went down to help this aunty & was shocked that all their beds, including the twin toddlers' cots were facing the windows! When I asked the aunty, she mentioned that her daughter inlaw & son had their flat audited by tan khoon yoong (wayonnet) & he recommended such an arrangement. She said that she herself was not agreeable initially because it was a well-known taboo in her perception. But TKY said that not everybody is suited for such a bed placement but it worked for them. I think you could make an attempt to drop by wayonnet with the photo of your bedroom & see if TKY's staff could provide any free advice out of goodwill.

Hi, if master soon is from Malaysia, do u think it'll help to check with Malaysian acquaintences? I've checked with my relatives' inlaws who had Malaysian siblings in Ipoh & JB but nobody has heard of him. They mentioned that there are many many FS masters in Malaysia.

I haven't been following news about TKY closely even though he has created waves in the geomency industry here. But I read in this forum that he had taxation issues. Hey! It just occured to me that if my taiwanese FS master is a free-lancer, does that mean that he might be earning alot more than what he declares to IRAS?? We saw many filipino maids in his "office" (a 4 room flat, suspect the family put up in condo/ landed nearby). He has low overhead costs since he does not have a commercial office, no advertisements, etc. Most of his filipino maids had long tenures & some speaks very good chinese! I supposed there is really minimal loop-holes since this taiwan FS master keeps a low profile all the time.
