  3. so long as the contact is not broken, alarm will not trigger. so no fears during traveling. urs is those HDB gates that come with the flat? think u better check with the branch office if they allow it to be removed. mine is the old generation flats that dont come with gate. except those really really grill type with a big, fat horizontal metal piece in the centre. maybe those were done by HDB since most non-renovated flats all somehow seem to have the same design gate. hmmm.... i dun hv pic of my alarm. it's those small household alarm that you can find in Home-Fix. Brand is Yale. CCTV in house? u wanna record what ur maid do at home ah? if u gg to install CCTV, best to install it outside, just above ur door. Not inside. the whole idea is to deter any potential thief from targetting ur home. not to record the fact after it has happened. rather to discourage the fact from happening.
  4. i don't use a gate at all. people come to my flat, first thing they see directly is the main door oredi. no gate whatsoever. for added security, i install a magnetic anti-burglar alarm from Yale. no subscription fees payable. one-time cost to buy the alarm. runs on AAA batteries with LED low-batt warning light. once armed, if the magnetic contact is broken and access code is not keyed in within a certain period of time, the alarm goes off. volume of alarm is only slightly lower than those installed by banks, retail shops at malls etc. And the alarm has no time limit. Once it's triggered, it will continue to sound until the correct access code is entered. so even if a burglar manages to break-in, he won't have the time to take anything before the whole block and opposite blocks knows there's a burglary going on. When thinking of protecting your property, don't think like a home-owner. Think like a thief. When a thief sees a digital door lock like these, would he want to risk it? stand in front of the door to try and figure out the correct PIN (he may not even know how many digits it is), or take out tools to disable the lock in broad daylight? Suppose he manages to get past this barrier. he next encounters the alarm. but bearing in mind, he didn't know it was there. once it sounds all of a sudden, what will most likely be his first instinct? Shock? And then? Run? At the same time, people who're around the area upon hearing the alarm, would instinctively look towards the source of the alarm. Upon seeing a man running away from the alarm, what would they conclude? Would it be logical to think that maybe at least one of them would either give chase, or call the police? So if you were thinking of being a thief, would u take such a risk? With no guarantees that there's anything valuable in the house? Or would you rather go after a provision shop, or some small retail shop? Or wear a mask and rob a convenience store? Or snatch a bag from someone walking along the street? I think all the above represents an easier theft, and technically, also a lower risk, compared to trying to break into a home in the daytime.
  5. haha...somebody kenna some prize money huh?
  6. i also received. those pay really peanuts for each bottle. they will offer way less than 50% of what u would have to pay outside for 1 bottle.
  7. did i hear durian ice-cream!!!??? and talk about alcohol, i have several bottles of martell vsop that i wanna dispose of. anyone knws someone who's looking to buy some?
  8. got. usually can see from the metal floor plate at the lift doors, or on the information panel where they state the max weight limit or max number of passengers.
  9. talk about your house visit....i still want the chocolate cake!!!....lol.... aiyoh...so bad . poor workmanship leh. wat's the brand of the lift?
  10. at least u got complain. my block, i think, everybody dun bother liao. 3 lifts in the common lobby, all got problems with the lights in the buttons and floor indicators. i also can't be bothered since i only use the lift to go up home. i almost always walk down the stairs when going out. plus, just endure 2 more yrs den lift upgrading will be completed and i'll hv a new lift just 1 door away frm my unit.
  11. No, my kitchen windows are facing slight NE while my main door is facing slight NW. Even last nite's rain also didn't wet my kitchen floor. Depends on wind direction and whether there's anything in front of windows blocking the flow of rain bah. For me, i think if wind blowing from the east, den my kitchen floor will get wet.
  12. me too... and last week there was a night with very very very heavy rain. some HDB blocks ended up with a flooded void deck (as reported in stomp ). i checked the PUB website, the drain level at Boon Lay Way was more than 100% i.e. completely full~ btw bro, how you find your new town council so far~ huh? got that bad meh? hw come my side like nothing? My kitchen floor completely dry leh. My kitchen windows are always fully opened. Which side are your windows facing?
  13. yes, apparently, lizards are like dogs. once they find a "good" place to do their business, they will always want to do it there. at my previous house, also always got lizard poo at the same spot. somemore can form a mini straight line....directly on the floor under my kitchen sink. but i also realised one thing. after a while, whether i scrape off the stains or not, the poo stopped appearing. i dun rmb killing the lizard or "chasing" it away wif insecticide or what-not. the poo just stopped appearing mysteriously.
  14. been very busy with course classes, then exam, then now work. do so much work, still no income.... ....in fact, now still very busy. foresee will be tied up for a long long while so i'll be very irregular here.
  15. too quiet too quiet.... recent GE, our GRC here, no fight man. such a big winning margin....lol. marsh, when ur plc open house again? i wan my cake!!!.... .....
  16. use those suction hooks or 3M hooks and paste the hooks on the wall just above the chute, or on the chute frame itself. den hang the strings over these hooks and leave the pandan leaves in the chute. so wat ppl will see frm ur kitchen is a couple of hooks with strings leading frm the hooks into the chute. if u use hooks that are small enough, ppl may not even notice the hooks.
  17. i think they're not coming in from the chute during fogging if u hv oredi used masking tape to seal up the chute. i suspect they're coming in from the gulley traps. Our area seem to have a lot of roaches. I rmb the last time they did estate fogging, i saw tons of dead roaches all around the ground floor and lift lobby at my block and carpark too. and some still not totally dead yet. even after a couple of days, still can see them lying on the floor, or struggling half-dead. super gross. anyway, now wat i did was i taped up my kitchen's gulley trap since i dun need it. i dun splash my floors wif water when i mop. if u dun hv access to ur gully traps, den the nx best thing u can do, i feel, is use those "Combat" roach poison. put a couple of them as close to the gulley trap as possible. at the start, u may see a few more roaches coming to ur plc cos the poison will actually attract them. but eventually after a couple of weeks, ur plc shld be free of roaches oredi. i'm very reluctant to use insecticide as i'm not sure hw harmful it is to my doggie. i dun wanna poison my boy-boy. also, sometimes these pests may come and go. like in my case, there was a period of time when a lot of ants kept coming to this particular corner of my kitchen floor, next to the rubbish chute. And guess wat they do there. They go there to commit suicide! No joke. They really do. Every morning i wake, when i go there, i'll see a pool of dead ants at that corner, even after i've cleaned it the nite before. thankfully my boy-boy dun eat pests. but now, all of a sudden, they've stopped go. Thank God they did . i can't stand the sight of it.
  18. my fren shared a solution wif me recently. she got pandan leaves and folded them into clumps like those you sometimes see in some taxis, den tie them up, and hang them in the rubbish chute. the roaches will avoid your chute. replace the pandan leaves as and when required.
  19. no, not possible. must have at least some bits of the root. and must place in an area where there is direct sunlight for the plant. i tried with those that we buy from market or NTUC, typically with the roots cut off, didn't work. My neighbour has 2 pots along the corridor, 1 placed on a stool so that it stands almost at the same height of the parapet, while the other is sitting on the corridor floor, less reachable by direct sunlight. over the course of a couple of months, i witness the lower pot literally die a slow death, from green pandan leaves, wither to brown, leaves. While the higher pot still thriving.
  20. still can install ventilation fan and yet, open window even if there's only 1 window pane. my ID did that for me. The window pane is casement type, hinged at the top, so it swings open and upwards. Instead of glass, they use opaque perspex so that they can cut a hole in the centre to fit the ventilation fan. So when not using fan, can open the window for natural ventilation.
  21. trust me, there will still be a fair number of them around. and wif proper certs too. whether wif regulation or not, in any monetary or paid services transaction, if there's a mismatch of expectations, thr will always be the opportunity of disagreements and unhappiness on either or both sides. again, it's about honest, open communication and moderation of expectations of both sides. if consumers knw exactly wat they're getting for wat they're paying, and agents knw wat they're receiving for wat they're expected to do, den all will be fine. bt ppl always nvr talk clearly abt such things in the beginning before any work is started. den when signing deal or after sale is closed, disagreements arise frm mismatch of expectations. trust me, if u've been on both sides before like i hv, u'll understand tt both sides actually hv their valid points supporting their arguments.
