  1. Hi, can PM me your ceiling fan catalogs. What you recommend for standard HDB ceiling fan with low ceiling. Thanks.
  2. a much better system of drill bit that doesn't require a chuck to tighten / remove. like said earlier. old hdb walls (w/o aircon ledge and pre 95 i guess)..normally soft and easier...hammer drill black and decker should work...
  3. SDS drill bits can be bought from those CONTRACTOR hardware store. It's normally those type that sell everything needed for reno.... not those neighbourhood hardware store. How small u need? for the red plug, it's the 5.5mm and green is 6.
  4. you can try ong hai soon timber at paya lebar. they are located just behind sing post. their planks are in 8feet x 4feet. u got lorry?
  5. u'll need a rotary hammer of at least 500w. any brand like hilti/dewalt/bosch works.
  6. I did everything myself from square 1 since getting keys. the best option of course is to get HDB to do it for your as their MO price is always better than you doing it idividually yourself, however since that option is only available for brand new flats... Works involved and relevant contractors 1 contractor for General works - Tiling / Hacking / Piping for kitchen + toilet stuff / false ceiling 1 contractor for Carpentry - kitchen cabinet + other related wood stuff 1 contractor for painting Lights/fans and common wall mounted stuff, most of the time, general works contractor will help u install for free. it's easy chicken for them anywayz. As long as you are willing to communicate with these 3 guys and they work together well, it cuts u the unnecessary cost of hiring an ID. Most of the time, it's the carpenter that must draw things well to look like what you want or have an idea of as his works is the last to complete also. My carpenter did nice job for me and relatively good price. can share u contact if you want. pm me. cheers!
  7. Wah..how much is your cordless hilti? **** nice.
  8. $1.6k is no joke for <1000sq ft. DULUX paint guys are also general sub-contractors which follow according to the jobs available, they can work for dulux today...and also probably work for your ID tomorrow...they're not full time DULUX employees ...i don't presume DULUX gets a job/house to paint everyday to give them a full-time salary. For your paint works, I assume the below - Kitchen walls are TILED hence only painting of ceiling is needed - Not painting the toilet CEILING. (People seldom paint this as some painters claim that need moisture resistant paint..blah blah blah....then ask you top up $$$ to buy special paint and other bull...Even so..this is probably only like 3square meters of ceiling) - Not painting bomb shelter You only need a maximum of 6 cans of paint for all the whole house + ceiling included. 1 can of paint only $45-$52 arounds... Ceiling coat is only 1x (unless changing color then bo bian). It's the toughest job and isn't very obvious to light even when some patches may not be thick enough. 2 cans of paint (5litre) is enough for your ceiling. All other walls require only 3 - 3.5 cans of paint. To paint 2 layers of the wall, they need to have the 1st layer on in MORNING and it takes at least 4-5hrs for the paint to fully dry up for a 2nd layer. This is something most painters do not do. They'll spend the morning 1st moving and covering all your furniture and masking up your electrical points and other necessary. 1st priority is painting the ceiling, followed by the walls in the afternoon. What they do is to paint THICK for only 1 layer on the wall and that's all you get. The last part of the day at about 5:30pm++ , they'll do some touch up with the corners/skirtings etc. They'll only give you 1 days work and that's all. Only at night, after they start to leave and you start cleaning up and putting everything back, and with the lights on...then you will be able to see where they may have missed out or which part of the walls require touch up..then you get to give them a call tomorrow.
  9. Those BLACK & DECKER hammer/impact drill may not work as the current concrete walls (new flats with aircon ledge type) are way harder than before. You probably can only drill in 1cm deep and you're stuck after that. I bought a hammer/impact drill with the hammer function and realized i going nowhere after 5mins of hard drilling...then i went for a BOSCH rotary hammer. JOB FINISHED in 5 secs for a 4cm deep hole.
  10. If you worry about the cleaning up and etc, then pay for the painting....save your headaches. If you value the $$$ spent on engaging a pro-painter, then DIY it and save at least $1k minimum. I DIY-ed my whole house at max cost of only $500 including paint and brushes. 5rm flat rate is about $1.5k - $1.7k minimum. even if it's uneven or etc, for what i did not pay the painters and the fact that i did it myself, i guess i won't complain too much. Some painters i called up told me they only paint "a few" colors and provide very good rate, but like i figured...it's cos they probably bought the paint in mass-order / etc. Furthermore, there's quite a lot of cases of painters using "other" brand paints but coming in branded tins as well...you cna't tell the origin of the paint even though it may look new opening up from paint cans. For what's worth, apparnetly the garang guni man walked past my place and saw me diy-painting and offered to buy the paint cans at $3 AN EMPTY CAN!!!!! Best of it all, those with "damaged" tops due to poor prying whilst opening, he dont' want... where do you think the cans went to???
  11. Those are good figures i assume your figures for kitchen floor tiles are higher because of waterproofing? or just normal ?
  12. I'm in the midst of reno of my flat (bought from sale of balance flats) so i'm also interested to know - To supply and install new flooring to Living Hall and 03 bedrooms in new $ 4,500.00 selected Homogeneous floor tiles, inclusive of same tiles skirting. - To supply and install new selected floor tiles to Kitchen, c/w waterproofing. $ 1,200.00 My flat's current floor is just cemented type currently (aka fresh taken over from HDB type without any finish). Floor area of 5room is 110 SqMeter which is about 1150 (+/-) SQUARE FEET. Selected my tiles from shop at list price of $2.80 - $3 PSF abouts.. Estimating my tile costs at $3 psf , and the fact that my 2 toilets are tiled and i won't be tiling the bomb shelter, i estimate on a high side of 1000 SQUARE FEET that I have to tile everywhere except kitchen and that should cost me $3,000.00 for tiles. Tile cost = $3,000.00 Install = ??? Waterproof kitchen = ??? Cement top up = ?? (Because the current level of cement doesn't seem high enough for tiling yet) Final cost = $8,800.00 (Given by my ID friend), Am I being ripped?
  13. Need some advise from available air-con contractors in forum. Currently this is the piping plan given by an A/C contractor, for those who have experience with this format of HDB flat - SENGKANG - BLOCK 302 , ANCHOR VALE DRIVE. As you can see, there are 2 "C"s covering the bedroom 2 and MBR which is really gonna cause quite a big headache for me when i buy furniture and etc. Anyone can offer another layout? I'm open to all suggestions. Green - Piping (proposed) Purple - FCU Red - BEAM
  14. carbon steel bar and pipes. u can get from hardware shops like NAM LEONG / SENG CHOON at lavender area. but i'm not sure of the quantity you require as carbon steel pipes and bars are normally meant for construction line of work.
