Hdb Floorplans: The Best (And Worst) Layouts In Public Housing
adidaem replied to PublicLife's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Thanks for starting this thread PublicLife! Love going thru the various floorplans you've shared so far. Would love to see those Sin Ming or Hougang HDB with lofts, and the Ang Mo Kio round block if you have those floorplans. Here's a Bishan maisonette. I believe it's the penthouse of the point blocks, i.e. 1 floor above the ones with open terrace but I'm not sure. -
Thanks Potatoes. Have been silently lurking on your T-Blog. Jia you k? Packing and unpacking is really a nightmare. At one stage I just decided to throw as much as I can so we don't have to pack/move the stuff. My SO made 2 trips to the Salvation Army just for my old wardrobe/clothes!

Ok, that's all for this weekend. Hope you like the photos folks. The blurry ones are mine of course (the clear ones r from my IDs). Think a few more areas and features like the door/grills and the 'open feeling' that the window and open balcony gives that I can share, but another day cos it's bedtime... (yawnz) As for decoration, am still thinking about clocks, paintings/art but think we'll take our time to slowly accumulate stuff.

Alrighty, more pics as promised. These new ones are mostly from my IDs btw. I asked for them cos I'm lazy to do all the staging and moving... Kitchen: More pics and stuff to read HERE.

Thanks! Another reason why I think we need to stay home is so that I'm not tempted to buy more things. Am holding off till we see the final reno bill... Pm'ed.

I'll continue the chat here in my T-Blog from other threads... It's great! Apart from it being my place (no more being subject to landlord's nonsense), it's just so comfy and cosy we feel like staying at home more... location is also a major plus now that we are so much nearer to town (I still marvel at how fast I get home from work or shopping) and I love Mei Chin food centre... it's really convenient with a 7-11, food market, and other amenities around. Unpacking is a major pain tho (still not done, arghh)... plus there are still some minor defects we are waiting for our IDs/contractor to do so reno is still not quite over (thankfully our contractor fixed the major ones pretty quick so we are not that fussed). I love the pretty constant breeze too... it is really a 'bright and airy' apartment after reno. Overall, we really really love our new place. SO and I still turn to each other and say 'our place is so nice huh?!' in semi-amazement... guess we need a bit more time to adjust from our previous cramp and crummy rented apartment to our new place. Unexpected bonus is that with the open concept kitchen... the 1st floor can be a spacious party area. So even tho the house is still a mess and we have not fully unpacked, we have been asking people over to chillax in the balcony (can fit 8 pax I think). That's a sorta lifestyle change? In the past we would have gone out or to friend's place. Thanks again FF. Will post pics of my kitchen, balcony n study this weekend.

Thanks! Yep, finally got some new pics of my place thanks to my IDs, so I'll post them this weekend after some sorting. I don't want to hijack your thread so I'll continue in my T-blog k? Ohh, sounds like it may be a bit of challenge, but I'm guessing you already know where to go and find your retro-licious chairs. Sometimes things like this really need some fate and luck tho so good luck !! and hope you both get the chairs you want soon. As always, will be eagerly awaiting the next set of eye candy from you.

Hi FF, always such a visual treat for us when you update your blog. And how do you still find the energy to go shopping for more stuff after reno? Gosh, my SO and I are so beat we are just gonna take a 6 month hiatus and laze around... Am glad you found the tables... curious what will you be using for the chairs tho?

Hi nesame, my IDs also said it's probably cheaper to get the frame/divan ourselves, which we did packaged with our mattresses. I really like the 2BR one that's actually a storage divan. It's got some hydraulics hinge thing so it's easy to lift up for the hidden storage space that's handy for spare pillows, linen and bedding stuff. You can find this kind of storage divan in most furniture stores (think not in the specialty mattress stores tho, e.g. Serta did not have). Colour wise white or black PVC divan should be quite easy to get. I'd advocate you to get the divan from the mattress store unless you have specific height requirement for the divan that requires customisation. All the best with your reno!

Same for my v56 fan. U can seal up with silicon if u really dislike the gap. Baby KDK fan is fine tho. No gaps.

Show Us Your Reno! (Aka The Eye Candy Folder)
adidaem replied to adidaem's topic in Reno t-Blog Chat
Thanks for resurrecting this Dinobros! Hi Renmapiao, it's not just EMs but I only took note of EM renos when I was doing my research before starting my reno journey. Am hoping others can chip in with their own eye candy or their favorite reno references. -
Thanks Sleek! Looking forward to stalking your blog and your droolworthy wiw n appliances when you start on your reno project.

I love it too! But the practical side of me insists on retaining the little storeroom lar. According to my IDs, they tried to retain the skeleton of the original Clementi EM HDB staircase, but the 'spine' needed quite a bit of repairs. Think the entire staircase cost a fair bit. But super duper nice right? One of my favs among the many EM staircases I've seen. Btw not sure if you can tell but the Clementi EM has a strange layout. Think is a bit triangular one.

Thanks Patsy! Long time no hear, how are you?

Oh yea, m so happy to be nearer town... I can now get to work in 15 min (vs 1 hr in the past)! Thanks Reiki! 666, you are lucky you did not engage Pang Giap. Yep, whoever is reading this, Pang Giap has SUPER BAD workmanship - use them at your own risk! They are not responsive and turn up late too... me and main contractor waited over an hour for them to turn up to install the **** door handle one week after they installed the door. Can you imagine they installed a door that cannot be closed and did not even drill the hole for the door to be locked??? Really man. Some more had the cheek to ask my main con for full payment without the handle. Geez. Can you imagine they had no intention to make good the poor installation? Luckily main con withheld payment till they rectified the handle. Some more my main con had to ask them to spray the door handle the same colour... if not they would have left the handle yellowish... Still feel super duper irritated when I see the slanted door or try to close the d*** hard to close balcony doors.

Haha. Ya I also prefer mine. No lar we also know abt the Clementi EM. In fact we contacted M+A after I saw the stairs on their website. We did discuss alternatives to stairs rails n fan circle. But in the end we thought the Clementi idea works so why change when it's not broken? Plus the circle kinda grew on me. As for the rails we didn't want glass and couldn't afford cable wires. So in the end had to go back to mild steel ones. Design wise not much variation cos the rails r supposed to match the window grills. Hope I don't see too many clones around tho.

You got PM. Thanks West! Am a happy Queenstown resident now.

I know I shouldn’t find the description funny, but honestly reading this line cracks me up… “The clarity between form, shades and shadow thus intensify the sense of contemplation and purification within the spatial experience.” Hmm, I guess I should feel purer (?) now that I’m staying in the apartment? The line is taken from my IDs’ website of course: http://www.atelier-ma.com/en/projects.php You can read more about the design concept and see nicer pics from the website. Just look out for the pic with the red elephant. Here are some pics to whet your appetite:

Thanks mango13. Think we are lucky to have a relatively smooth reno. All the best for yours too.

The MBR also has 4 LED downlights. Those lights are not very bright, so the headboard ones really help. Track spotlights are from Lightcraft. Think is around 600+ for 6 units plus the tracks (sold by length).
