All Tanglin Halt Road Neighbours! Report In Here!

The MSCP and blk 89 are two different buildings with different heights for the ground level. One is commercial, one is residential, hence the different heights. The bridge linked from 3rd storey of Blk 89 to the 2nd storey of the MCSP because that's the nearest levels to each other. To link the 2nd storey of Blk 89 to Deck 2 of MSCP would make the bridge very steep. This is not uncommon for different buildings that are linked together. Their respective lifts reflect the levels of their own respective buildings, which is not really wrong also. To make them tally, where should we start? Either the MSCP starts from Deck 3, or Blk 89 starts from level 1A and then level 2? -
Congrats on your new home! Hmmz, I think you got a 5-rm flat (unit no.#344) at Blk 89 right?? I am at the same block as you, staying at the OTHER 5-rm flat (unit no.#356). Come join our thread and also meetups! =)

Oh so it was PAINTED green...haha! Maybe they regretted it and went to buy another one. Suspected it must be the contractors; probably dumped it conveniently while on their way to their vehicles. Which level is this? Can actually sms to Steven or Irene about it; they are the property in-charge for town council. Their mobile numbers are available at the notice board. -

Huccome there is a bright green toilet bowl?? Anyway, I think they are quite flexible on the 1 yr warranty thing; I got the flat in Apr 07 and only recently raised my problem with the toilet bowl (Sep/Oct 08), but they still rectified it for me. Or maybe they forgot to check on my warranty...oops!! Haha... -

What is the problem with your toilet bowl in the first place? If you can show them that your bowl is faulty then I don't see why they are reluctant to change it. Also, you should fill up the "Maintenance Request" form on MyHDBPage website instead of just calling the branch office about the problem. Remember Jack Neo's "Just Follow Law" movie? Govt boards must have 'black and white' then they will be responsible. -
Does The 90% Policy Really Help?
zirhk3355 replied to icky's topic in HDB New/Resale Flats, Executive Condominiums
It would be nice if you give some basis for your figures, because it seemed to be plucked out of the air. For one, I would actually think there are alot more 2nd-timers, especially in this economy where HDB-upgraders who went to stay in condos then downgrade back to HDB flats. Yes first-timers got their urgency, but so does 2nd timers. What would you say if you are a 2nd-timer on the verge of bankruptcy, condo kana foreclosure and soon will have no place for your family to stay? Want to be like 'pursue of happyness', go stay inside MRT's toilets?? By allocating 90% to first-timers is being strongly biased against 2nd-timers already, so why continue to penalise them? Sometimes we got to cut others some slack and take a more holistic view. -
Reasonable?
zirhk3355 replied to hapimint's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
I would say that those mosaic tiles hidden inside the pillars would be inevitably damaged, because there is little chance of saving them. As for those near the windows, are they so near to the window frame that the latter cannot be removed without knocking some mosaic tiles off? If so, then its also inevitable. But if its an accident, and since he already admitted that his workers knocked them off, then he should 'make good' for free, which means he cannot charge you for the plastering and such. Also, maybe to replace the floor tiles is cheap (or even free because got extra tiles?), but to replace the mosaic is expensive so they want to charge to you lor. Just reason your way out, ask him to prove to you that the damages are inevitable and not out of negligence. -
After Marriage Will U Secretly Keep Saving Apart Frm Ur Partner?
zirhk3355 replied to Cantona7's topic in Wedding & Travel
That one is not considered secret savings la! I refer to 'secret savings' is under-declaring of salary and every month put $$$ into an account that the other party also does not know it exists. What you mentioned is quite common, my wife and I do it too. We each have our own personal accounts and there is a a joint account; rule of thumb is buying/paying things that benefit ownself, then personal account. If it benefits both parties, then joint account. Then each month both will put equal money into joint account. But this 'rule' is very loosely enforced lah; sometimes dun put in joint account, sometimes put more, sometimes put less. Sometimes buy food, groceries, light bulbs, etc also use personal accounts (how to draw $2 to buy a light bulb for the house, right??), then sometimes overspend no money to pay own credit card bills also close one eye use joint account. The point is two persons together must be happy, must care for each other and SHARE. Money used up, lost, or buy wrong/expensive things, forget it! Can earn back one mah. Happiness cannot earn back leh. So why lose something indispensable (happiness) over something dispensable (money)?? Doesn't make sense right? Thus IMO couples who fall out over money are really not meant to be together in the first place. -
If you are not really poor then how?? It will be like declaring yourself bankrupt to your parents: "You say no money right?? Then can go holiday? Can buy new hp? Can buy new clothes?? Aiyo, just save up all these money can use for wedding dinner liao!"

Reasonable?
zirhk3355 replied to hapimint's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
First thing is to be reasonable and assess if its possible to save the mosaic tiles when you asked the contractor to do those works. If not, then its inevitable lor. Anyway, VO can bargain one lah; its a small industry's trick to try and upp their income. During the last few days of works, my ID also gave me a VO consisting of things which I thought was supposed to be free. Just negotiate with him lor, say that he never quote you a price when he do it so its partly his fault also mah. -

Add on to what sohzai said, citygas water heater can be used with rain shower, I am having it now. I am still not used to the lag in heated water; I need to save up to a pail of water before the water gets warm enough. So now even though the toilet bowl is changed and good, I still use the pail of water to 'flush'. Answer your above question on Sat meetup: I won't be available this Sat cuz going for short break. And co-incidentally, my dad is a cab hirer and he stays in Tanglin Halt too! But hor, too bad you post this only now, cuz he just found a night driver two days ago, whom also staying in Tanglin Halt. Anyway he knows alot of people in this area and I already ask him to look out for your dad. Lastly about video shops, I am used to go to one shop at Serene Centre (need to drive abit lah) which has quite good selection. Otherwise I think there are video shops at Holland Village and Anchorpoint too; check them out! Then again, why go video shops when there is Holiday Plaza @ JB to satisfy all your video needs at much lower prices?? Hehe... -

Cannot only have DVD ok, must also have PS3, Wii, etc. Maybe also link up your PC to the TV and can use with wireless keyboard and mouse. Must have variety! Then hubby won't get bored!! All wives must take note ahh!! -
junxian is right; no need to bring anything related to your salary/job if u already got HLE. Other documents I am not sure, you should check back on the package they gave you. Hehe thanks for your support. I am STILL in the property line but not as an agent anymore; also I only work as agent for a few years, not several years. Anyway, this is a free forum; whatever a person says, for those who knows, will know. Don't need to explain.

Based on the works you are doing, I think the amount is reasonable. Don't think this is a case of rip-off just because you are renovating a condo.

Anyway, for me year-end nothing much to look forward to, like my co's practice is to give AWS during year-end and bonus is in June/July. I very sway because I just joined this co so this year I will get my pro-rated AWS... -

!!!!!!!!! That's a high maintenance TV you got there!! -
Its a case-by-case thing; not every HDB officer is the same and I am quite sure its not SOP for them to ask if you changed job during first appt. So the point is, dun open the can of worms yourself first, go for first appt and see how it goes. If they ask, then tell the truth and give your best innocent look, "HUH?? Cannot change job mehhh??"

Wife is like television (TV), girlfriend is like handphone (HP). At home watch TV, go out bring HP. No money, sell TV. Got money, change HP. Sometimes enjoy TV, but most of the time play with HP TV is free to watch; but HP, if you don't pay, services will be terminated!! TV is big, ugly, bulky but still can watch when old; HP is slim, curvy, portable but there is always a newer and nicer model. TV needs very little servicing and usually reliable for a long time; but HP breaks down easily and always need to service. Operational cost for TV is often acceptable but for HP is high and often demanding. TV got remote control and can switch channels if don't like. HP don't have; take it or leave it. Last but not least........ TV will never have virus, but HP yes, have VIRUS!! Most of time, once get it, HABIS already, no virus software for it!!

Its the same, only on a bigger scale. VIP visits your home, you spend money to welcome him. VIP visits to the community, the community spends money to welcome him. But I think the difference is whether there is an unanimous agreement amongst the community that he is VIP in the first place...? For me, like above, I too questioned on the purpose of K Shanmugam visiting us, since he is not even a MP in our GRC. -
Correct me if I am wrong, so you are the seller trying to back out of a deal?? It would be nice if you can come clean upfront. Anyway, whether you can get bank loan or whatever situation, its a different matter from THIS transaction. Don't confuse things and don't use that as an excuse to lessen your own guilt. The fact is that you had accepted someone's money to stop marketing your property, promising to give him 14 days to think about whether to buy or not. And then you want to back out of it. Think about this.

After Marriage Will U Secretly Keep Saving Apart Frm Ur Partner?
zirhk3355 replied to Cantona7's topic in Wedding & Travel
Usually in olden days, women do not work and they kept savings secretly with the "jia yong" money that the husband brings home. Then there are two school of thoughts here; first one is of course for survival in case husband leaves them. Second is actually for the family, because usually the husband will be a spendthrift and not save, so in case of emergency, the wife will bring out her secret savings and save the situation. And why secret is because if the husband knows the wife is saving, he will always depends on the wife to help even in small finances situations, so it defeats the purpose. I believe most dutiful wife subscribe to the second school of thought. Only those who are from the first school of thought would probably be the scheming and calculative women, taking the marriage as a business transaction and trying to find a 'back route' for themselves.
