  1. Hi guys For those who knows Angel and me, we will be having our housewarming party this Saturday at 12:30pm. All of you are invited! Please come along for lunch and get to know each other. No need for any gifts at all, I am serious. Just want to know all of you neighbours mah! For those do not have my address, please call my mobile at 81883355 - erm do not use a private line so that I can trace who I gave my address to.
  2. If you calculate it, beer and wine does not affect your budget drastically. Wines are below $20 and for beer, usually if you need extra, it will be chargeable by the jug at $20+. Just compare the luncheon and dinner, how many bottles of wines and/or jugs of beer can you save? To save this amount and risk your angbaos becoming smaller is not quite worth it leh, IMO...
  3. Well if that is true then maybe its not so bad. But I am not too sure; I said 80% as a general guideline, but from my circle of friends, colleagues, clients, taxi drivers, etc, those whom I spoke to, all seemed to be very apolitical and have a couldn't-care-less attitude about the level 4 and 5. BTW that includes me as well, although at times I would think about politics and society, but that's definitely not my priority now. Just ask yourself lor, or of those around you, how many are actually actively pursuing a 'higher life' beyond the basic job security and family needs? Do you/they really care that using more plastic bags would harm the society, or convenience more important? Do you/they take any effort to recycle products, do volunteer work, use more public transport instead of car to reduce petrol consumption and global warming? In terms of politics, I think its even more apparent and a classic outlook of the hierachy of needs' level for most Singaporeans; though everyone does not really like some of stuff that our govt is doing (fare increases, influx of foreigners, etc), how many of us are actively trying to change it? Or we steer clear of the choppy waters, remain on safe grounds, fearing for our job, fearing for our family, fearing that our HDB application would be rejected because we are involved in opposition works or something? Actually hor, just by being truly contented and happy with what you have now is already attaining higher levels, ie you no longer fear that you will lose your job and affect your family. You then start to care for the society, be proud of who/what you are. It does not mean that you must drive big cars and live in landed property to be considered self-actualisation. In fact, the desire for material needs signify that one is still at basic level (of which I am always guilty!) and that one had not gotten past the bottom levels yet.
  4. The main part is on the drinking and teasing - think this will happen more at dinners, especially on weekends, but also depends on your crowd lah. I attended a few extreme ones, like a guy (who is very outspoken) got abit high and went on stage to 'jio' the groom and all the 'xiong-dis' to drink; best part is they also high and went up to entertain him! The dinner ended at 11+pm, but very fun lor. On the other extreme, got this very very solemn wedding dinner, machiam some kind of graduation ceremony or award presentation - sianz!! Somemore for people with family, weekend luncheons are very unpopular, because cut out their precious family times. Weekday luncheons even needless to say, have to take leave, attendance rate will drop badly...
  5. Yes, and sad to say, as a result of our society, I think alot of Singaporeans are still at the bottom rungs of the hierachy...sighz... Cannot even feed myself liao, where got time to think about politics, democracy, global warming??
  6. People are starting to get used to wedding luncheon and being better-informed that it actually costs as much as wedding dinner, but I tell you, the older folks will still be skeptical. Angbaos will probably be lesser. I went to a friend's wedding luncheon also, menu exactly the same as dinner, same price of course. But it doesn't have the same 'feel' because everyone expects it to be short and sweet, don't drink alot (although that's a good thing) and not much fun. Its all prim and proper, like corporate function like that. So if you ask me, I won't advise for luncheon unless you really can't help it...
  7. Erm...sorry but actually what are we expecting her to do? Come and apologise?? Wait long long hor...
  8. I think the theory goes like if you cannot achieve the fundamentals, you will never get to the next level. I think that basically explains 80% of Singaporeans; all stuck at the bottom or 2nd rung (safety/security) where we are slogging for daily bread/butter, mortgage, loans, or worrying if we can get pay-raise because the credit card bill is getting bigger, worrying if we will get retrenched, etc etc so much so that we never go up to the higher level. Its only when you can secure your basic needs, no fear that you will ever lose it, then you can move on to the next level. Thus you see alot of inconsiderate people, few of us really care anything about politics (social), no need to even mention get involved ourselves (autonomy) to achieve self-actualisation. To know you stand on the hierachy, just ask yourself what is the most important thing to you RIGHT NOW: Earn more money? Job security? Family needs? Financial freedom? Or fair politics? Democracy? Global warming? Hehe...I can go on and on about this, but abit off-topic plus sensitive also. All I can say is that our elite government is very good at playing the game of Maslow's hierachy of needs when securing their votes...
  9. Yes it is very important that you check if your contractor is ok for you to get your own electrician, plus also make sure you have a reliable one. Never get one just because they are cheaper or recommended by friends; it may backfire and give you more headaches. See my blog for problems you can have if you engage your own electrician. Do some homework and you will know the market rate, choose the reasonable one, NOT the cheapest one.
  10. We did mah - remember how this whole thing came about?? Photoshoot in LV shop...wahaha...
  11. This is really an interesting thread. Look at the amount of "forum rules" we are all breaching here, but nobody is doing anything, or dare to do anything. But if you breach the rules all by yourself, the secret mata will delete immediately without any explanation. The power of unity!! Hehehe...
  12. Erm, not really true leh, from a man's POV, dumb-dumb wife is good!! Man go outside and do 'what' she also doesn't know... Hehehe...oops...ke lianz lor...
  13. Haha...pathetic... Really sympathise with her...bet she is struggling with her inner self now; cannot show true feelings, have to continue hiding behind the mask to save face, trying very hard to make us believe her even though she also know its futile...haiz... Whyy...wei he...???
  14. Sorry to anyone who came for the meetup yesterday - I overslept and went down very late. But I guess also not alot of people came right...hehe... Anyway, who is sitting at home NOW and nothing to do?? Come down for a kopi/tea!! I am going down now...hehe...
  15. Not so sure if the staff will recognise her HB, so many people also come and buy mah. Unless he really go in and come out with 10 bags at one time...? But for someone who GOES THERE ALL THE TIME BUT DON'T BUY, I am quite sure the staff will recognise her... Wahahaha...bad bad... !!
  16. OIC - I think both works you considering are under A&A, no? Ok let's assume your budgets are correct because only you know best what you want. However, its not quite correct to say its easier to recoup $200k compared to $400k, because the latter includes larger build-up, which translate higher price. While for the former, in the eyes of a valuer, all reno works will depreciate to zero one day, which means you will never recoup that $200k. In essence, notwithstanding price increase due to other factors but just based on RENO alone, you do $400k you can recoup some of it, while you do $200k you can't recoup anything.
  17. Price is not only dependent on build-up area, but also affected by the condition of the unit. Although reno has its depreciation, I am quite sure a rebuilt unit can fetch a few ten-grands over a 30-YO, original intermediate, no matter how long later. For A&A, it will depreciate to zero after a certain no of years. If its true that rebuild can pay by CPF (not too sure abt that...), then definitely will be my option in your shoes. I think you had underestimated the A&A too, if the unit is really 'original condition'. I got a relative who also has an intermediate and really went all the way for A&A and decor, he spent near to $300K. Now regretting it...
  18. That one will need TWO $20k diamonds to be embedded on the two most 'outstanding' positions of the WG, akin Madonna style... !! Ohh...very bad, very bad, tomorrow all of you must eat vegetarian and say more prayers...whatever your religion is...haha... Ok lah, 6pm off-work liao, go home go home! Don't talk nonsense here...haha...
  19. Yeah and the $20k diamond will be placed on top of the head as the christmas tree's star... !! Oops...someone please stop me!! Wahaha...
  20. OMG... Please don't get me started again... !!
  21. Ok lor, so my fault then... !! Dun scold me lah... !!
  22. Haha... So you admit its your fault lah?? Why bring up LV shop all of a sudden leh... !!
  23. Ya lor, the staff probably saw her coming so many times, they will just let her in anyway. Although never buy, she tries very hard mah, at least let her take some photos lah...sometimes must do some good deeds...
  24. Does cuba happen to be the most reproductive human beings on earth?? Hehe...kidding... !! On cash vs happiness, I recalled a story: Once a successful businessman is visiting his supplier in a rural village. As he was driving along the outskirts, he saw a fisherman lying on the beach, sunbathing. He was quite puzzled, because though the fishing season is over soon, there is one more week to go. So he asked the man what is he doing lying on the beach when he should be out in the sea. Fisherman: "Nahh, I had already got my worth, need to enjoy myself abit..." Businessman: "But there is still another week to go! I hear this season is very good, you should take advantage of it and get a bigger catch!" Fisherman: "Why would I want to get a bigger catch?" Businessman, obviously impatient: "So that you can sell it for more money!" Fisherman: "Why would I want to sell for more money?" Businessman, flabbergasted: "Who doesn't want more money?? Money can give you a better life, so that you can enjoy it later!!" The fisherman sat up, smiled at him, "Why would I want to enjoy later, when I can enjoy my life right now?" Irony of money in our life: We spent our whole life chasing after money, the rat race, hoping to get a better life after getting the money. But few of us know that the moment we stop chasing, we had already ACHIEVED a better life. There's this very apt advertisement by Aviva (just an eg, I am not Aviva's agent hor), where the dad is reading the stock update, pushing away his hyperactive daughter who is trying to get his attention. The scene then switches to what should have been happening, with the dad playing with the daughter. But alas, I guess many of us can't help it but to have the wrong priorities in life, given the environment that we are in...
