  1. Here is the guideline from HDB on drilling hole on walls with concealed wiring. http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10297p.nsf/ImageView/ELEC_GUIDEBOOK/$file/ElecDrawings.pdf If you are still not sure, better don't drill.
  2. Standard specification allows for 40mm of cover between surface of structural concrete to reinforcement bar for beams. Plus a 20-25mm thick plastering, I would not recommend any drilling more than 20mm. However, thickness of the plaster and structural concrete before hitting the reinforcement depends very much on the workmanship of the workers during constructions. If you just want to hang a curtain, I dont see why cannot. 1/2 inch screw should be sufficient to carry the weight of your curtain, unless of course if you are talking about glass curtain or other heavy materials. How to know if you are drilling plaster or structural concrete. Well, when you are drilling and you can "go in" effortlessly, then most probably its just plastering. If you need to push hard to " go in", then most probably its structural concrete. My 2 cents worth of comments.
  3. Just bought Compact and Princeton from Jerome (Zero). Price wise, he can give a very attractive deal compared to those outside shops. Try asking him. Princeton has a nice design and a circular shower head that suppose to give you the rain shower feeling. I have not moved in yet, so haven't tried it also. Compact is the basic model from 707, does the job. been using it for the past 2 years at my rented place. Cost wise, Compact is the cheapest model followed by Protek and the most expensive one is princeton Check out the product at their webpage http://www.chg.com.sg/index.html
