  1. Distilled Vinegar is colorless and very strong, it is too brutal for use in cooking but is ideal for pickling, cleaning glass and as a detergent or disinfectant.
  2. Actually he already knows.... Once when we thought he was asleep , decided to have some *ahem ahem * time with hubby, he came barging in the room and tried to pull the blankets and said ..." are you guys making a baby " ? " Then make it quick , so I can have a brother to play with" ! Haiyah...
  3. Most parents want to do their best in talking with their kids about sex and sexuality, but are often not sure how to begin. I personally started talking to my son about the birds & the bees when he was only 2 yrs old. For instance, when teaching my son where his nose and toes are,I wld include "this is your *****" in our talks. When my friend was pregnant , I'll ask if he noticed that auntie's tummy is getting bigger, and I'll explain that's because she's going to have a baby and she's carrying it inside her. And ask if he knows how the baby got inside her. I'll also tell him that no one can touch his privates and he too can't touch other's. Now he's 7 yrs old , and he basically knows what sex is , now I have to explain what GAY is ...coz his godma is gay , and he keeps asking me why she's not married yet. Haiz...kids and their never ending questions
  4. Can't help but giggle at the stories I've read. I too have experience neighbours who burn things. I'm the only Muslim neighbour and all my neighbours are Chinese , so every other day there's smoke coming in my hse with no warning, and my nice white curtains will be covered in black soot. Plus me & my son has Astmah. At the end of the day , we have to accept the fact that we live in a multi racial community and have to learn to tolerate and respect each other religion. If given a choice of coz I wld live on a landed property , but no enuf $$$$, and scared to live in big big house. hahha so stuck in HDB flat. hahaha.
  5. I use white distilled vinegar, its an excellent bathroom cleaner. Vinegar's acidity kills most mold, bacteria, and germs. Cleaning with white distilled vinegar is also the way to avoid harsh chemicals. It's also known to be environmentally friendly & economical. Remove grime, mildew, and scum from the tub, tile, shower curtain or door by wiping with undiluted white distilled vinegar. Rinse with water. Use full-strength white distilled vinegar on dirty grout, let it sit for a few minutes and then scrub with an old toothbrush. Spray shower doors with full-strength white distilled vinegar to release the hard water deposits Get rid of stubborn bathtub film: Wipe it with white distilled vinegar and then scrub with baking soda. Colored porcelain sinks will shine when you scrub them with (undiluted) vinegar.
  6. Thks Hi hi !! HDB change for free ? Coz I wanna get it changed 1st before the start the kitchen reno , then install cabinet door ...to hide the wooden door
  7. My new resale home has a door above the rubbish chute , I was told by most contractors that I cannot change it unless approved by HDB. Anyone have this thingy at home ? Those living at the top floor normally have this thingy... I thought of maybe calling the HDB and ask them to replace for me as it's rotting already.... Do I have to pay for it ?
  8. Haiyah... I just found out my FAV Marks & Spencer Chocolate Chip Cookies are missing. I asked my maid who ate it , I thought my son ate it , my maid said it was my friend / tenant... Thing is , I brought 2 pack of the choco chip cookies , 5 days ago , I eat 1 -3 pieces a day. I purposely keep in plastic bag and tuck it below my fridge. 1 pack was still unopen and the other pack has 3 cookies left....but he eat everything just now , before I got back from work !! If there's a few piece left I don't mind , but a whole pack ?? Plus he ate our dinner my maid cooked for us too....SIGH.... My hubby also brought another set of cookies from M&S ...and offered it to him the other day , so I thought he understood that set was meant to be shared and mine was mine alone. I only eat that certain cookies , it's my FAV , and M&S so far , I stay in Tampines , so sian to travel to Town just to buy cookies....aarrgghhhhhhh
  9. Cost is a factor. Different lightings have different energy consumption. Normally pple go for energy saving blubs or fluorescent Lamps . Some have a dimmer effect , so you can control the brightness of the lights. A friend of mine have cove celing with lightings , cleaning is a hassle coz have to climb , strain the neck and dust all over face. Very cialet... Also breeding area for lizards.
  10. Hi hi... It's called Cove lighting . A form of indirect lighting built into ledges or recesses in a ceiling or high on the walls of a room. It may be used as primary lighting, or for aesthetic accent. Products used typically are LED strips. It's nice ahhh ...But dust will collect and me got Eczema . Cleaning is also quite troublesome
  11. Hi all.. Any idea where I can buy street lamps like this and how much would it cost ?
  12. Thought some of you might wanna view some kitchens . Can get ideas for new cabinets.
  13. Ohhh..Now I know. Thks for the info PapaYeo. But to charge till $900 is seriously alot. $200 - $300 I still don't mind.
  14. I've been renting out my common rm to a friend of ours for more than 2 yrs now. Becoz at that time he had to vacate his current place and had no place to stay. We live in a 3 rm unit and my son still sleeps with me , and we thought why not , no harm mah. Although I did place some house rules , at times my tenant/friend do bend the rules. Like I told him you can bring your GF home ONLY when we're in the house , but as time goes by , she starts visiting when we're out at work , stayed till the wee hrs in the morning and even sleep over. His GF was rather nice lah at 1st , very sweet gal, but I notice recently , she's getting too comfortable. When she comes over now , she doesn't even bother to say hi to me , just walk in and mind her own business, like we're transperant ! The thing is , we always have friends over our place , and I always welcome them.We share the same friends . We'll cook and have lunch / dinner gatherings. And they are free to eat whatever I have in my house. But it comes to a point that they are so comfortabe that they'll just open my fridge / cabinet and cook without even asking for my permission. I don't mind if they eat my food & cook, but at least ask for permission ahhh..not so difficult wat. I charge only $300/mth which includes, eletricity & water use Internet use ( we have 3 laptops ) We do his laundry Now we got a maid , so maid does everything lor...He considered very lucky + we're shifting to 4 rm soon. I've always wanted to confront my tenant / friend but my husband always say why kick a fuss. We can afford the food and bills , just let them be. My hubby very soft-hearted one. He doesn't wanna strain the friendship .Very frustrating. Now whenever I buy food , I have no choice but to keep in my room, coz they might eat it and not leave anything for me... My hubby just shakes his head and says I'm stingy....( am i ? ) sigh...
  15. Hi all.. Was wondering if it's possible to re-paint the window grills. It's it's possible , how do they go about doing it ? Do the contractors remove the grills ? Will it damage the walls ? Hmm.... My window grills ( Still in good condition, wish to paint it black )
  16. That's what I thought too , $100-$200 is fine. But some charge up to $900... It really doesn't make any sense !!
  17. Haiyah... No wonder !! Coz I went to so many contractors and ID firms and the quotes are all different ! $200 - $300 not so bad, but $900 !! These renovators havn't been reading or watching the news ar ? Got Economic recession still wanna charge so high !
  18. I really really hope the renovation and furnishings company will lower their prices. My 2nd appt is in early Mar and I have yet to decide on a reno company / contractor to engage as the prices are cut throat !! Really cutting back on reno but these reno pple seem to shift cost here & there...
  19. Perhaps you can try and check thru here : http://www.bca.gov.sg/housing/sp/Renovatin...DBGuideLine.htm
  20. Need advise ~~ I was wondering if it's possible to apply the reno permit myself. The reno companies whom I've approached charge between $300 - $900 But when I checked at the HDB site , there is no indication of any cost for application of reno permit. Is it possible if I just tell the contractor or ID firm to fill in the details of the reno works and I simply submit to HDB myself and wait for approval ? Anyone done this before ?

  22. Hi all.. Need your advise and personal experience in this When getting a solid surface counter top , what color is best as in , scratches and color is less obvious after wear & tear ? My current solid surface is black , scratches can be seen and it appears dull. White will turn yellow over time. I met an ID who said RED is best ? Is it true ?
  23. Thks man..Will go check it out....
  24. 30 mins is not too bad ahh Decided to just take ferry and book hotel from there. Might go to KTM Resort, it's like 5-10 mins drive from Sekupang Ferry teminal and 30 mins to town. Not too bad , if it's fully booked , then just roam the streets of Batam till we get a hotel. . There's 8 of us , so won't get bored
  25. Hi all.. Anyone know which hotel is near the Central Batam ? I've tried surfing the net , but most wld say it's near the central , like Nagoya , but does not indicate if it's near the Batam Central Ferry Terminal. I basically need a hotel near the town area , but still near the ferry terminal as well. Any recomendations ?
