  1. Hee..is it Scandinavian? Think it's quite common in ang moh homes in US and Europe..sometimes it's on walkways or below stairs area..many different styles..some have all different frames..we had a hard time deciding frame color, whether or not the sizes and frames are similar, what shape on the wall etc..Pinterest has many inspirations!
  2. Hey We bought it from everywhere! Because we wanted different sizes, different designs but all black..some were spray painted black..some were from Daiso and spotlight, some from Ikea and marks & spencer and Bangkok..
  3. Hello thanks! I studied a year in Sweden and really love the homes there.. =) Will pm you my contractor..he has done pinkwhale, paloma, bigbull, kk85 and dancingintherain homes too.. As for bad contractors, sometimes it's better to do a simple search on google the company name, ID name and boss's name on the internet for a due dilligence and feel with your heart..they can easily close down and reopen another company to hire new IDs or change hp numbers..
  4. These ppl are good at shirking responsibility and will end up blaming you for their mistakes..I would advise you to take photos and keep records of all correspondence including emails and SMS just in-case..it will not change their attitude nor improve things but at least you have something to substantiate and prove your claims..last thing you want is for them to deny everything and blame it all on you with nothing to prove your story..
  5. i second closed shelves..open shelves so high up will be a nightmare to clean..
  6. hey i feel you..and there are too many of such contractors/IDs around..it's simply appalling, and it all boils down to $$ and profits..the same contractor can close down their existing company and open another with a different name and still continue to be in business.. going to CASE wouldn't help much and it'll simply be a long-drawn battle that will drag for a long time..you need to consider if it's worth your time and more stress or to find a solution to rectify things to satisfaction and start enjoying your new home..sometimes money can solve some problems and avoid more stress and CASE may not even recover any amount..having gone through this myself, i would say people capable of such acts will amazingly shrink all responsibility and claim you're the unreasonable one.. give some thought and see if it's possible to get someone else to salvage existing carpentry and repaint the place?
  7. i flock to mid-modern/industrial/scandinavian blogs..still looking for ideas.. i love my sofa! it's really comfy and i fall asleep on it often.. i think it's a good piece for a balance between comfort and mid-modern style..as much as i love those mid-modern sofas, they are usually so uncomfortable and only for sitting, not falling asleep or lounging in them..plus it's cheap..more budget for the other wood furniture..
  8. Hello i bought from the link below..there was some delay but the quality was decent.. http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=10022006301
  9. Hello nice floor plan and huge planter! Think your place wil turn out beautiful too =)
  10. oh no..don't sound good..but don't worry, things will turn out fine..somehow.. thanks thanks! okies pm-ed! it's better to meet him at site.. =) all my lights are warm white except for my toilet, study, guest room and kitchen cabinet t5..i guess it's the white balance of the camera? but my living room looks whiter than my room, maybe because of the white walls.. thanks..! collect all the ideas you like and create your own home!
  11. Have been kept really busy this month, this is how the home looks like now. The photo wall is up! But the coffee table was on loan from Lorgans as our shipment was delayed and needed it for our pre-wedding shoot at home. Still have not got our bed frame! Looking forward to the furniture from Lorgan's and getting the bed frame before getting side tables to complete the home!
  12. looking at the amount you are doing, i'm beginning to think that your reno is not expensive at all lot! that's a lot of carpentry work and really envy the good workmanship!!
  13. I was eyeing the fan and that bin from Ikea!
  14. Sorry to hear that =( I'm sure there are other good contractors around!
  15. hey i heard from other forumers who approached Mr K recently and was told that his carpentry's queue is till Feb 2013 now..if you're not in a hurry i can share his contact..that's also what i like about Mr K, he's upfront and tells you what he can or cannot do..no empty promises just to sign on more customers and than under-deliver..
  16. hello my contractor did it for us..about 400 iirc..
  17. My contractor got it for us..think it was abt 400 or so..
  18. Pinkwhale traveling again! I also want see!! Toilet subway tiles envy..
  19. It's not an issue for me, mainly because my place is very windy..I usually open all the windows and doors so smell does not linger..I don't really deep fry and use the hood, so it's really not like how some describe the whole house with smell and grime..and I cook about 3 times a week.. I suppose it depends if the air in your place is still? If air moves in and out quickly it should be ok..which comes back to my love for bright and airy kitchen/living area.. =)
  20. Hello Mine is not done with laminates, they are solid plywood stick together, sanded and lacquered. But do note that there's different grade for solid plywood..Paloma and pinkwhale has used the same method but their layering and joints at 90 degrees are alot nicer..my joints were badly done and there are many holes in between layers..
  21. the last time i asked, i was told Bosch uses 16amp, which was why i got electrolux without second thought (it's 15amp within HDB's limits)..but my neighbor using Bosch told me that it's 15amp..i was looking at the side by side instead of top-bottom one..not very sure but you can confirm.. btw for domino hobs, do note the distance between the hobs..as if they are too near and you use chinese woks or big pots, you may not have space to use both at the same time.. i think storage heaters are the best bet compared to other heaters..but well, we don't use rain showers that often after all..
  22. I think it was 1099 from Audiohouse.. No complaints about it..have you used induction before? The feel is quite different from stove fire and cooking is controlled by tenperature..your pots and pans must be induction use (as long as magnet attracts the pot).. Good thing is no heat lost and things boil alot faster..it's arguably safer too as heat stops once pot leaves surface automatically and does not burn your hand when u touch it..
  23. hello i love bright and spacious living rooms as it's where your guests would mingle.. i'm using induction, Electrolux 2-hobs. There are only a few models which could be used in HDB - Taiyo, Electrolux and there's a Bosch 2-zone that is either 15/16amp.. I'm using jovan storage heater as we've 2 rain showers at home..no issue with heat but pressure isn't that strong though not exactly weak..
  24. yes, they are normal ceramic tiles with wood grains..i suppose like other homogenous tiles, they come in different textures and if it's not very rough it wouldn't trap dust easily..mine is not that smooth and suitable for kitchen too..trapping dust wise, not too sure about that since dust is hardly visible with the grains..
