The Transformation

Must apologise to my contactor. They did do the beading for me, as I've just observed. -
Day 22 (29 Aug 2012) Just noticed something today. From the MBR toilet skylight, I can see some parts of the flashing. Very ugly Need to get the false ceiling guys to cover up that portion so that the flashing is hidden. Look mum, no cockroaches! And there's really not a single roach when they opened up the manhole.

I've observed a very trait of my tilers today, but I dunno if this is the industry practice. Whenever they want to walk on the tiles which have already been laid, they will take off their slippers, ie they walk barefoot. I believed it is to prevent damage to the tiles until they can apply the grouting and cover them up with the protection materials. while me, the owner, walks on them in my shoes!!! So paiseh

Went to The Wall Story after work. We needed to start choosing our wall papers. Got a shock when the person said that wallpapers will need 3 weeks to ship over after confirming. Oh oh, there goes our plan to move in before Oct! Lesson for those who'd be doing wallpapers. Don't think you can just walk in, choose and have the installers down to install the next day.

Day 21 (28 Aug 2012) They have finally started laying my favourite wood tiles! Swee boh? Sink stove is also up and halfway through the tiling. I estimate that tiling works should complete this week! False ceiling is done in the MBR toilet. This is how my skylight will look like. I can finally 望天 when I bath!

Not sure about the measurement, will check later. The big sink was salvaged from the previous owner's dry kitchen. But for bathroom and kitchen stuff, I highly recommend heritage bathroom at geylang. Their prices are one of the cheapest I can find. The lady who served us, Sharrine, is also very friendly and helpful.

Today they've started working on the yard area. We were also at our ID's place to choose the carpentry laminates . They will also start painting on Wednesday. Things are progressing along real smoothly, credit to my ID team. They said all should be done in another 2 weeks! Workers fixing up false ceiling at yard area. Base for dry kitchen cabinets and island top Working on the wet kitchen sink stove structure

Day 20 (27 Aug 2012) Was given the VO by my ID today. I am generally ok with the VO other than the price of the false ceiling, which we felt was very high. We dun mind paying if the price is reasonable but dun wish to be taken for a ride. A few reasons 1. As you can see, total price for false ceiling, including dismantling is $6,500. 2. My own estimate is that it spans probably 800 to 1000sft for those items he charged us. 3. For other works, we'd usually get a quotation first before we proceed. But for the false ceiling, we were not given any quotation before they started doing. 4. There were a few blunders along the way which meant considerable rework. They've also torn down a false ceiling wrongly and my ID said he will make good the replacement at no cost to me. Under such circumstances I am skeptical if they did not try to mark up the blunders into my quotation. Can some kind souls help me review the quotation and see if it's reasonable? Thanks.

Whirlwind of shopping for beds and mattresses today. First to courts where we bought 2 Maxcoil mattresses with bed frames. One for my brother-in-law, and one for my son. At $999 for queen mattress with bed frame and $1499 with storage bed frame, we felt it's quite value for money. Then it's off to Robinson where we bought a Sealy King for myself, including the platform bed frame.

Dude, looks like you have gotten a good and responsible contractor who is also value for money. Mine didn't do this for me.
