  3. Hi Eshpro After viewing the photos, i am still not convinced you need to do a lot of reno on this beautiful house. Its so NICE.. You should see mine, the lights are very simple, all china brand ceiling lights, original 16yr old aircon and water tank. there is nothing i can recycle from that house. Yours is a beauty. Congratulations to your new house. Looking forward to your updates.
  4. thanks Jumbopanther, you are right about keeping the existing "newer units", the other units and piping are all 16years old and some of them have leaking problems. So to avoid future problems, I try to do the most dirty jobs right now, hack and replace the aircon pipings a d drainage. Question for you : 22G copper pipe, 1/2inch thickness thermaflex class 0 insulation( for each pipe) 16 mm drainage pipe ( for each aircon unit) , local tai sin wire Is that good materials ? Mr Ang does not want to use 20mm PVC because makes it harder to hack and he claims it is not necessary, Your input will be greatly appreciated .

  6. Day 11, 20 September 2012. AIRCON !!!! WHICH COMPANY DO I CHOSE A bit of history, when I first collected the house keys, I invited two aircon companies to quote for the aircon Both companies Pxxxxxx and GxxxxxTxxx advised me to used back my old trunking and pipes Current Aircon System is a mixture of Panasonic non-invertor and invertor system. My aircon configuration : Level one Living room single split unit 28k btu, dining area plus maid room - double split unit 18k btu and 9k but Level two master bedroom singlet split unit 18k btu, family area and playroom - 3 year old panasonic double split unit 9k btu x 2 Level two guest room and level three daughter's bedroom double split unit 9k btu and 12btu, level three family area and son's room 3 tear old Panasonic double split unit 9k btu x 2 I plan to replace all existing aircon units except for the 4sets of Panasonic invertor aircon which are 3years old 1. Pxxxxxx -Aircon Advised me to take all non- invertor Panasonic aircon and use back sold trunking. Price $5000 2. GxxxxxTxxx Aircon Came back with a mix of Mitsubishi electric and Mitsubishi starmex invertor aircon. Price 9800 I am very confused So I seek my contractor's opinion. His best advise was to replace all existing trunking and pipings and go with Mitsubishi starmex or daikin inverter system. I also decided to change one of the aircon from wall mount to a cartridge aircon as I was not comfortable with the idea of the aircon on top of the tv console. good advise from Jaskel so I started my search again for more information 3. MR Cxxx Aircon contractor Came back with a QUOTE Of $16,000 Unbelievable. I had no idea it would cost so much...... Money not enough how to spend this amount of money on aircon. The next best thing I could do was to get more quotes to compare and have more options. Btw, Pxxxxxx aircon was not interested to quote after I asked about mitsubishi invertor aircon. They must have so much business that they don't want to waste time on me. Back to GxxxxxTxxx Aircon, they are really nice people.... Came back with a quote of $14,700 I started searching the Internet for another aircon company, I needed to have two or three quotes before I would made a decision. Then I found Txxx Cxxx Aircon. Called them yesterday and the boss Mr Ang came down and did a site visit. he is very knowledgeable and well mannered. 4. TxxxCxxx Aircon Mr Ang gave me a quote of $13,640 after gst. Okay I have a savings of about $800. Not too bad But wait, mr Ang gave me more !!!! He offered me another combination that would Reduce My cost, one less compressor. Now my last quote is $ 12, 831 That is another savings of about $800, so in total I will save about $3200 for making the effort to search for more quotations. Now I have to email this to my hubby who is away for clearance so that we can start work on piping next week. I am absolutely exhausted and drained.
  7. Sunbird73, Just now I was trying to drive around to look at other peoples car pouch and gates. To visualise the tiles my hubby has preselected, if it can stand the test of time. We are only going to do it once and no way we will do it again for the next Ten years or more. I really hope we will have wisdom when we chose our tiles. Pray pray.
  8. The condition of this house is very good, don't think you need to spend a bomb reno
  9. Wow, it's a lot of potential, when do you plan to move in? What are the works you plan to do? I love our roof garden. I don't have any ! And you have a lot of Turfing areas too. Can't wait to see our progress
  10. WELCOME my friend to your T-blog, may you enjoy the process of renovation and t-blog as much as we enjoy reading about it. Keep up the good work.
  11. May I suggest going for the industrial look instead. It does look achievable using cement screeching. Read it somewhere in a t-blog. You can still place in the stainless steel nuts to achieve the look. Just a suggestion. You can try to achieve a look with many types of materials, even wallpaper can be used to create a different look. Check out this wallpaper shop in Kallang leisure park, they even had wallpaper that gives you the effects of a bricked wall. Maybe you can find something there you can use instead.
  12. Hi Jumbopanther , when will your project be completed? It's very happening and looks like a lot of work going on. I can see you are very committed and have time to visit your site to check on them. Must have good time management.

  14. Wood looking tiles we are considering to lay the stairs, make a guess at which one we will lay.... Will post the results when the job is done. The "naked staircase" waiting to be "dressed" Share one of my inspirational photos for my hubby bar counter
  15. Lost touch with my blog after my laptop keyboards malfunction. Where was I ???? Move to Day 10 update 19 September 2012 Been to hapfary last sat with my contractor Mr Jaskel and his assistant Mike. This is what we are shortisting for our guest toilet. To continue with our contemporary country bar counter. We short listed this set of tiles. I am very tempted to use these as my kitchen and wall tiles! Notice the fine details that the tiles have. I think they are very interesting and may be able to last the test of time. These are the ones suggested by Mr Jaskel. I am very tempted by the beauty of its leather look. But I think my hubby won't agree to them. Let's see how it goes.
  16. Ehspro , you really humble. Crouching tiger, hidden dragon, ha ha We are all waiting

  21. Hi Bineo , Shmj and fellow forumers PEST CONTROL COMPANIES I actually met up with three pest control companies before deciding to use Rentokil. Reason : I love to do my homework before I decide 1. Rxxxxxxx 2. Pxxx Xxxxxxx 3. Sxxx xxxx xxxxxxx company 1, recommended by Fellowrumers, first one to quote and wanted me to sign the contract and start his work. I held back because all the furnitures have not been cleared and I wanted to confirm my renovator contractor first. They can drill thru my marble tiles and patch it up to the nearest colour. Of course I still have to out something to hide the holes but hey it's worth it to do the pre treatment. Company 2, was recommended by a relative came down to view the place. They have no confident to drill on my marble flooring as they fear it will crack the marble and they have to compensate me. The price and package is reasonable only if you are not drilling your existing marble floor. Company 3 was recommended by Fellow foreummer but he did it make an effort to visit my place. The sales person asked me to email him my floor plan and quoted over email. I am a little skeptical over this form of customer service their company is not willing to do roof treament if the space is enclosed . At that time I told him that the roof is accessible by manhole and he did not asked me if I am changing the false ceiling.but the questions he asked really turn me off. So I strike him out after that conversation. so to conclude, go with the leaders. There is not much price difference. Believe me, I have done my homework.
  22. do go with Rentokil. They are still the best in the market. They give HSBC card holder 10percent discount and Citibank ready credit 20percent discount. Ask the sales person to give you a good price before your commit.
  23. yes Minerat, we a looking at wood tiles. But won't be able to spend on very expensive ones. Limited resources
  24. Day 4 13th September 2012 Hacking continue, nothing much was happening so I skipped posting yesterday. But being at the house inspires me design ideas for this house. Which I will share in future. Day 5 14 September 2012 PEST CONTROL CHECK Remember that photo I posters yesterday, according to the nice gentleman from Rentokil, that was a termite trail. The termites are no longer active in this house, but they did leave a little hint of their presence. I am just so grateful those insects have moved on. The ground and roof treatment will start end of next week after we finish hacking and clearing the debris. We removed part of the kitchen wall to create more space a better airflow. Noticed the staircase parquet had been removed? We are going to tile it. Another look at the staircase before the parquet were removed. It is simply beautiful. We had to change the wood as most of them had chipped off and too costly to repair. Retiling them is a more practical long term solution.
