  1. it was painting the past 2 days, i was totally apprenhensive because unlike laminates, we don't actually get A4 samples for nippon's colors. there was also no looking at the paint chips on the color booklet because the "color my world" catalog only has standard and limited colors whereas i chose from the "color creations" which has got no catalog. i was tempted to just buy small cans of paints to test on the walls but i was thinking, why bother? how bad can it be, its all grey right? WRONG. first of all, these are the colors i picked : black swan NP N 2044A ebony blue NP N 2002A gray dolphin NP N 2046P puritan black NP N 1982D and here's the real deal : i've got puritan black, a dark grey for the whole of my living room walls and gray dolphin for the ceiling. please ignore the messy floor. i think this is a very interesting color because it also has blue & purple undertones, which i failed to take into consideration. so while it looks grey for the most part ie. upclose, in the paint bucket, it also looks blue with tints of purple especially near the window. this greatly annoys me because i simply want a grey with no undertones, like black mixed with white. thats all. see how purple it is especially near the window. for the hacked room, i used black swan. its a dark charcoal grey which is my favorite. black swan. loves how it matches against my dark parquet skirting. also have black swan on my bathroom ceiling, including the sides of the partition board. its looking kinda weird right now since the walls are white, hopefully when all my matte black sanitaryware & toiletries like basin and rainshower are up, it will better tie the look together. apart from ceilings, i've got gray dolphin for the whole of kitchen, service yard & bomb shelter. the gray looks like white on some angles especially on the ceiling but its only when placed side by side with an actual white the difference is there. ebony blue for my MBR walls and ceiling. i totally adore this dark slate blue green color and i can already imagine the gold and brass accessories like table and pendant lamps that will go so well with this shade. will also paint all my door frames gold. my contractor said the walls will be repainted after carpentry because there's no way to touch up for dark colors. hubby is very impressed with my choice of colors lol, whereas for me, im still getting used to how dark and moody the house looks now, and the view outside the window just looks really glaring. right now, its parquet mending/varnishing, carpentry & plumbing works next. can't wait!
  2. aww ok, i don't like bosch as well but i cannot afford a miele now. i was thinking might as well go cheap(er) and buy an EF, but i don't know whats the quality like, and its made in china. i'm ok with other MIC stuff generally but not the appliances. i do actually have plenty spaces for my baking stuff, either on my island counter or my dry pantry inside the bomb shelter lol. its nice to see another fellow baker here!
  3. im buying black bathroom accessories but sticking to the aluminium ones coz they're cheaper it seems like there are 3 types of materials - brass, stainless steel & aluminium for toiletries on tb. the 304 one is stainless steel? i wonder whether the aluminium ones are ok to use coz thats all i can afford now lol yes regarding your matte black rubber toiletry set, i think they're not rubber but silicon. their glass water bottle with silicon covering is pretty common but i havent seen any toiletry sets like the one u posted. would you be looking at other alternatives? im crazy over anything marble looking these days and i think the black marble ones are not bad painting just started today! still coming to terms with how dark my living room is now, and the color definitely looks different from the website/app. my home looks like a hot mess right now, with reno garbage piled high in my living room else i would take some pics to share. your reno will continue after 7th mth?
  4. my first batch of stuff was also $1.5K! i think those lights and sanitary stuff are a killer. while they're cheaper than sg, they're not exactly very cheap also. i had my eye on the EVE bathroom shelf as well, but i think its kinda ex leh. its around 225rmb? probably translates to $40+.
  5. what a long & tiring day! everything seemed to happen all on the same day, which is weird. first of all, my stuff from taobao were delivered like 9am in the morning. then had the aircon trunking done by tim wong's guys followed by another round of delivery from gain city. running of aircon trunking started at 10.30am sharp, and they were done by 2pm. there wasnt much ugly trunking all around since im only having one 24K BTU at my dining/island area. the unit at the hacked BR has none at all since it goes directly into the MBR. the MBR has more trunking but its still bearable so we're not doing any boxup. we will paint the room a very dark navy blue (including the ceiling!) so those casings should not be very visible at all. my first taobao loot, all 105kg of it! this round i bought the more crucial items like rainshower, sink, faucet, mirror and some lightings. they all came intact except for my gold kitchen faucet which had lots of pits & dents. i was really really disappointed! the seller didnt pack the faucet tightly so it shifted and knocked around in the box. i now have to buy it again. the rest of the items were all very pretty, had matte black and gold colored stuff mostly. will do a proper unboxing soon! i only pray that all the lights will work but i wouldnt know my two ovens, hood & hob, all BOSCH. i dont actually like BOSCH but i love european brands. i've always hear how customer service of these brands suck big time in sg so i didnt dare splurge on a miele, gaggenau or smeg. maybe one day, if they buck up i would!
  6. @purplegirafffe i didnt look at the book though! i rem flipping through it once and didnt see the colors i wanted. if im not wrong the book was called "color my world" and they had very limited colors. unless nippon has other catalogs i dont know about? i chose the ones from "color creations". then again maybe i should have compared those in the book vs the ones on nippon's website @Clarence Lye yes i have that app too! but so finicky to use and it doesnt really "paint" well. cant wait to see how yours turn out, i know its gonna be gorgeous! btw i see you chose 8 colors! your ID gave unlimited choices? my contractor only gave 5.
  7. love your paint colors! i'm also using different shades of grey and i'm quite anxious. because i don't know how the color will end up in the end, will the color look darker/lighter/totally different?
  8. i would change all the light switches/plates to a matte black if i can, the default HDB ones are hella ugly. problem is, to have a uniformed look, the existing ones would have to be replaced as well. is it really feasible to do that?
  9. some of the works done recently : making good of walls & floor after hacking cement sink support up! also need to give this a special mention, my washing machine base with wood grained tiles! my contractor said i could choose my own tiles instead of the default HDB ones that people normally use for the bases, so i went to hafary and chose this. the name is "legn natureel". its walnut colored and i LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! i think it looks kinda odd here but this is the look i envisioned, washing machine sitting on a wooden pallet. the grains are really pretty and i think the tiler did a great job. too bad the area is so small and i wouldnt really be able to see much once the WM is up, i still love it nonetheless. if back then i knew such tile existed, i would probably not have opted for HDB tiles and hopefully when my walls are painted grey it would tie the whole look together. most of the electrical wirings have also been laid/relocated. now im waiting for my first batch of stuff from taobao to arrive, they consist of mostly sanitaryware like sink, faucet, bidet spray and rainshower, all in black! i think the subcons did a great job overall, hopefully it remains this way!
  10. i agree that they should not be charging 150 more. those that were originally tiles need to be mended with tiles. its also understood that making good include the cost of tiles when you're using back the original HDB ones because they don't expect u to purchase the tiles from HDB personally right? unless you're requesting to use other designs from somewhere, then they'll put "tiles to be provided by owner/tiles not included".
  11. hi! i love european brands when it comes to appliances too. i would have loved a miele, de dietrich or gaggenau but it seems like the aftersales service for these brands are really bad, or that the parts are too expensive. same goes for electrolux so i went back to the shop again to change to a bosch after reading about how bad their service was. hopefully the bosch one wouldn't be as bad.
  12. a contractor/ID firm does not need to be HDB licensed but if you're going to hack walls, then it will have to be done by a HDB licensed contractor and only they can apply for the permit. so your contractor/ID will borrow or buy another company's license, this is common practice.
  13. likewise, always happy to see your comments on my blog! walnut is not really dark, its probably medium, with reddish (?) tones. the dining table i really liked was from fortytwo.sg : i liked the color, and the way the table legs are slanting outwards. but this is 120cm which is too big and cannot be extended, and a similar design extends from 150 to 190cm, so definitely out of the question. if you ever see one like this around 90cm and can be extended, please let me know lol. so the IKEA's black-brown one is more towards wenge, very dark and my island is walnut, so might clash. therefore white is the most neutral one. omg how did you know i'm using mike! i never used a 3rd party forwarder before, so i'm actually very anxious. they don't actually tell you each time they sign for a parcel. thanks for the assurance though, i feel more at ease now that you said that. have you used mike before? and is lazada direct shipping good? hearing not-so-good reviews on the HWZ TB thread.
  14. another way is to do an extendable dining table that you can push into the island when not in use, something like this :
  15. your home is so beautiful, chic and cosy! is your dining table from IKEA? the word 90cm caught my eye because im getting that as well. except i cannot decide on the color as they dont really have anything suitable for my concept of walnut & grey so im torn between the brown-black & white but most likely going for white, a color im reluctant to have for dining table what forwarder did you go with for your taobao purchases btw? lately i've been having this unfounded fear that my items will never arrive because i'm using this forwarder i've never used before (but had good reviews on renotalk and hardwarezone forum). they dont actually inform you when your stuff have been signed for so im not sure if they actually really received my items. plus the typhoon in guangzhou means my sanitaryware will all be delayed sigh.
  16. lol how come? sorry i havent been really going around reading and commenting on blogs. i hardly ever logged in until i collected my keys. you mean 7th mth subcons all not working?
  17. eh? i have no idea why you cant see my pics. maybe because im not uploading them here but linking from imgur instead but i thought it should work. now? i dont have the luxury of space either! mine's a 3 room BTO, my island is gonna just measure 1.5m in length but i've hacked the common room so my dining area can be bigger. since you bake, heres a hello to another fellow baker!
  18. hello hows your reno coming along? i like your choice of laminates, im using lamitak as well, somehow i think theirs look nicer than other brands.
  19. for me, the island will have to match the kitchen countertop height and that is 90cm. im not using it as a dining table or bar counter, my dining table will just be placed beside the island, something like this : no idea whether you can see the pics this time? yeah finding dining chairs the height of 85cm is tricky because its neither here nor there. you might have to customize or sit on a higher cushion on a regular dining chair. try your luck on taobao maybe?
  20. i bought direct and shipped via 3rd party forwarder. the forwarder didnt say anything so i presume it shd be ok? why didnt it go through for ezbuy?
  21. i know how you feel. i waited 5+ years for my BTO, countless times i just stood outside the gate and "sayang-ed" my main door from outside lol
  22. yeah not easy and this seems like this is the only black design! i dont use ezbuy, hear bad reviews about them. so far do all the taobao sanitaryware work? no issues with compatibility right? for the spray i bought the one with 2 outlets, one will connect to the WC the other to the spray. no idea whether it will work. hopefully it does?
  23. actually my contractor wanted my sink ASAP for the concrete sink support, so had to buy it so he could start work. the taobao one i read some reviews saying that the seller promised to drill a hole for the faucet but didnt in the end, i was abit worried. because if it happened to me i had to ask the plumber to do it, no idea if he'll charge for drilling? im hesitant like that. i ended up seeing these granite sinks when i went for toilet bowl shopping the other day, and tiong yeong had a nice one for $200 odd, and poh seng gave it to me at $195. i dont know what the quality is like though, and the underside of the sink looked very unpolished. it was whitish, almost like a geode, with stone crystals all around. really ugly. but mr seah told me "its like that one" so i didnt probe further. yeah, i got regular sized appliances, the 60cm sink was probably the only "compromise" lol. i hardly have any counter space with both side by side, maybe 20-30cm left? but i wasnt planning on using the counter space actually since the kitchen was so small to begin with even if i were to buy smallish appliances. so i will be doing pull out countertop (like a drawer) under the hob, and one in my service yard bottom cabinet. i can also do prep work on my island counter
  24. hacking started today, exactly 11 days after key collection. hacked the common BR to form a bigger living area. way brighter after hacking! i think they also did a rather neat job. patching, tiling and concrete sink support will start soon!
