  1. why not give them a call ask them to strengthen the ?stiching instead of anticipating the buttons to fall apart? The design of this sofa iis quite timeless I am sure Commune will be happy to fine tune it to make it more lasting.
  2. ouch! this one seemed a bit tricky to DIY?
  3. hi Mr Happyldoes the 15% off apply to sales item? I went to Commune for the first time on Wednesday, almost parted $5xx for a wooden bench with cusion and leather strap. Thank goodness I wasnt too hungry for it after I had my very late lunch at their cafe at 3pm! the sofa you bought nize, I like it better than those you shorlisted earlier on.
  4. i like the look of the first option but its not functional if you plan to put more than a TV on the console. I vote for third option cause of the height and splash of color, option two will cause me neck pain because I often sit on the floor while watching TV
  5. I have the exact same sentiments each time I see a wall with bricks scatter all over on this forum, saw it at an eatery at Millenia Walk on Wednesday and find it looks quite out of place. I wondered what do the home owners do with it when they get bored with the look? put up more bricks to occupy the entire wall or take them down? hi Macuser, love your postings of conversation with K and your place is turning out great! He seemed like quite a character and consistent in producing quality work.
  6. how about the chairs? you have something in mind already?

  8. Hi Retch, I so agree with you the importance of aftersales service. I had my share of good and bad experiences, am particularly impressed with Scanteak and Samsung's aftersales service. It was a disaster when Scanteak delivered the goods I ordered. The bench from the Prologue series and a bedside table came in perfect condition but there were issues with the rest. The four-door wardrobe was delivered without the doors, a chair has an unsightly black mark (which I was prepared to accept) and the footboard of the Vinkel bedframe has a big patch of discoloration on it. The delivery guy didnt inform me until I spotted it by chance, and he admitted he noticed it before he assembled. Told him I do not accept it and asked him to take back the chair as well. The customer service contacted me the following day explaining that the doors were out of stock and if I would consider changing to other doors, or wait two months for the new stock to arrive. I didnt like the design of other doors and was a little annoyed that I have to live without the doors during chinese new year with two big housewarming parties planned, to my surprise Scanteak agreed to put up temporary doors and replace them with the ones I ordered two months later (not a small task for the assembly guys!) . Samsung's aftersales service for the washing machine I bought has been good so far. Get them to level the washing machine at my old place a week after delivery (was vibrating too much, a friend advised me to get it levelled to protect the washing machine). Get them to level again after I moved to my current flat 1+ years later (under extended warranty). The uncle even helped to change the leaking hose without charge, said it was probably damaged during move.
  9. Now I know why you keep saying your place looks bare! You have your TV console placed in the middle nearer to the windows! Haha how many small cafe tables you plan to put in the remaining space? :-) I am not a big fan of custom-build TV console but this is nice! Very rustic looking. My only concern with this placement is it might be too glaring to watch TV during the day and at night from the lights from outside unless you plan to have blackout curtains? And noise?
  10. 慢工出细货! Both you and Foo have an eye for details and I am sure you have done a lot of research online n during window shopping past few months. The stuff you bought so far are looking good! Looking forward to see your furnished flat. bummer indeed! The fabric you saw will match the effifel tower uphostery fabric I bought from them to a T. It was sold out shortly after I bought them too
  11. HI Redderyou may want to check out the strerch of shops/workshops about 10-15 minutes away from Ubud city center. Ubud is a charming town well known for its arts and craft, paddi field, food and yoga ! I spent a month in Ubud two years ago for yoga mainly and revisted twice past one year. During my stay there I get to know a very friendly and capable indonesian woman who owns a workshop making leather belts and accesories she and her german husband designed and made in their workshop in Ubud. She also owned a cool hair salon in Ubud which I hang out almost daily. The furnitures in the salon are designed by her and custom made by a workshop in Ubud using recycled wood from old junk boat, I bought a 2m long painting and get it framed through her contact at 1/3 of the cost here, and paid a name card maker to handmake three sets of refil for a small organiser I bought from Mandarina Duck in Florence for s$5-6!
  12. The carpenters are here now to put the pieces together! The boss came with his workers and they will need another four hours to do some of the work bere. I was thinking of hacking away part of the wall between the mbrm and kitchen to build a WIW too initially but decided that a bar counter with a built-in oven and a counter top wide enough for food prepartion/baking serves my needs better. Looking forward to see your cafe style kitchen!
  13. sigh I have bought the tarva and a small tin of blue paint for the hack but my handyman who is supposed to come back six days ago will only be back tomorror night, and he is flying off to switzerland and russia next week for two months. he must have either got lost in Grand canyon or a sexy woman's company past few days lol my bedroom cabinet/wardrobe will be delivered in a few days time. keeping my fingers crossed! :-)
  14. Good morning DIY queen, how about getting a stainless steel rod and spray paint it into black? :-)
  15. love the texture of your black/dark grey kitchen cabinet! Is that the lamitak laminate? trying to figure out where you place your washer/dryer and did you conceal them? oh I went to spotslight yesterday to check out the fabric, it was sold out. bummer :-)
  16. Hi June, >So when can I see photos of your IKEA hack?? Hurry, hurry! Soon, soon! My handyman will be back from his business trip next week, he will hack it before he goes away for two months work + holiday in europe this June. The Tarva chest of drawer is not exactly cheap at $199, but I like that the creator of this hack is able to transform it into an interesting wall mount display shelf without taking away or adding parts. Thanks for the head up for the fabrics at spotslight, will check it out
  17. Hej June, Have you considerred going for a home shopping holiday abroad? Everything is so overpriced in Singapore nowadays! I think Bangkok might have what you are looking for and you can get it sewed professionally at a much cheaper rate. A few of my local and swedish friends tailor made their pants and suits in Bangkok. I was amazed at the choice of fabric at a tailor shop in Bangkok when I went there last year with my friend. Read from this link that linen only cosr 70 baht a meter, quite a steal! http://www.travelfish.org/blogs/thailand/2011/09/23/fabric-shopping-in-bangkok/ My good friend travels to Bangkok for work a lot , I might join her again to save on accomodation for my home shopping trip.
  18. tell the boss you hv posted your story online and willl file a case through the Small Claim Tribunal if he doesnt take any action
  19. Hi Wani check out this place http://www.catalogue.com.sg/product/cage-lamps
  20. Hey June does your mdrm has a sunk-in area on the shorter end of the wall space? Did you box it up? This is one area I pondered a lot trying to figure out how to place the bed in the middle of the wall without boxing it up coz I dont like to spend my limited budget on sth like this lol. I liked this idea a lot when I saw it on a magazine but didnt use it due to practical reasons. I dont fancy climbing on my bed to clean the shelves, and I prefer to have a headboard or sth to lean on when I am reading or surfing on my bed. Had it boxed up reluctantly in the end :-)
  21. June I am a floor person too lol. At my old walkup I often sit on the laminate floor when I watch tele or using the computer on the big coffeetable , often in a yoga position with the body facing not directly at the tele to get some twist on the waist area (good for massaging the internal organs) . now I still sit on the laminate floor alot and sometimes on a wooden yoga block (to lift the spine and not to worry about slouching) Your wood tiles look very inviting and I love your idea with the DIY blind using gunny sack material and irons on. I found an upholstery material at spotslight with effiel tower prints , bought about 2.5m of it to use as curtain to match the red and white theme for my mbrm, and was planning to get more for the balcony but it was sold out and the shop has no plan to replenish in the near future. bummer lol My contractor gave up on questioning my strange requests or saying 不可以 after working with me for a while
  22. Haha yes, I dont have the luxury of money to hire an ID and splurging on reno but it helps that I have the luxury of time to do my research and feasting my eyes with the beautiful images from magazines and online sites for months before I started the reno. I like your curtain choices! I am still sitting on the window solution for the balcony (used an old inidian table cloth to block out the sun as a temp solution for now). It will be my next project after I do up the storage solution in my bedroom, and this http://www.ikeahackers.net/2013/04/artav-by-atelier-45.html#more A friend will help me with the execution in exchange for pizza and wine :-)
  23. Hi June I am sure your room will turn out lovely after months of pondering and working with a contractor who is resourceful and good in executing the ideas! I too pondered for months on how to achieve the resuts I want with a small budget. I am happy with the decision I made to double the size of the bedroom entrance over shifting the entrance (the cost I saved on sealing up the old entrance will pay for the new solid door, or most part of it).
