Sounds ok so far right? Wow bro, the workmanship does look really good. And you're absolutely right about it being from ceiling to floor. Really makes cleaning much easier. You're almost done mate! That light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger by the day huh? Out of curiosity, do you or your wife go down to look at the progress of your flat daily? As in while the reno contractors are still there?

BX & Bronco. I still remember the pain behind the changing of tracks... sigh.

checked, read and replied. heh thanks sis! at least this way, I get more info on him. it's still not too late to change. yeah.... well..... you can finally see the light at the end of your tunnel. mine is still at the entrance..... sian

I guess at the end of the day, it depends on the user himself and the way he takes care of the laptop. I've also seen many cases where lappies can last for very long. But generally, yes. A laptop has a much shorter lifespan than a desktop. Acer? You can check out www.acer.com.sg Their product list is there. Mine used to be a travelmate 8210. No frills computing. OMFG! You DO know him! He got transferred to HQ 4 SAB and became the Intelligence WO. My direct superior. Better not say anymore - sekali he tekan me when I go back for reservist. All I can say is Nicholas Tan...
-
ROFL 42! I remember 42 SAR fondly. Sungei Gedong right? I was HQ 4.... ORD 03 Do you remember a WO Nicholas Tan by any chance? Oh wait, back then when he was in 42, he was only a SSG or MSG...

We certainly will try with Maybank Thanks so much for the constructive advice! Keep em coming, bro! Yeah, korea is super power. I read what she did for $19 K and I was like.... bro, you did the constructed wardrobe in your MBR? Got pics? What does it look like? Coz my fiancee and I were wondering if the 1.8 K for that wardrobe is worth it. I mean, there are many rather nice ones that we saw for much cheaper out there... heh you too. buying a lappie?
-
Yeah, Once Armour, Always Armour. I was from HQ 4 SAB, Intelligence. You leh?
-
Ah..... thanks for clarifying. This is the first time we're buying property, so we're super antsy. heh heh But for defects, we only need to look for those defects in things that we're planning to keep right? I.e defects in say common bathroom tiles. Cause for things that we're gonna reno like the rusty steel gate (I saw another forummer talk about this), even if it's defected, I can heck care it right? So many things to stress about.... *sigh*

For Apple, the designs are nice. Of course. But non-tech savvy people will find it quite hard to get used to. I guess it really depends on what you're going for, bro. If you're cost consious and on a tight budget, Acer does the trick. Quite hardy too. If you want a machine that's super durable, IBM has to be the one for you. Back in army, we used to THROW the IBM notebooks into the tank, also never spoil. If you're into looks and features, Sony Vaios aren't bad. although they tend to need repairing rather often. If you're into the overall package, HP and Toshiba are pretty good value for money too. I started off with a Toshiba, before changing to a HP Compaq (which totally died on me) and then an Acer (no $ mah. But the Acer served me super well. Got really fond memories of it)

hmmmm I tried to start a blog there but couldn't leh... weird. As in I managed to do all the settings and everything but when I click on "Add new entry", the error page which says "Not Found. The requested URL was not found on this server." pops up. Same goes for when I click on the navigation button "My Blog" on top. Yeah, we go to forums every night and we also buy home and decor mags to get more ideas so that we can have a better idea of what we want. If not, like some other nice people pointed out in here, everything that the ID suggests, we like. Then our wallets cry. Minimalist Zen as in lots black and white with the occassional splash of timbre brown, water features, pebbles, rock formations.... lol. IMHO, the cheapest look to procure and maintain. Now we rent a flat at Clementi West St 2. Why leh? Going to treat us to drinks?? Quite old guy. He's very proud of his experience, keeps talking about how only experienced people like him know all the pros and cons about doing certain things in the flat.... wah... got horror story??? Pls share.... before it's too late...

True, true. Great advice. Wah bro, I noticed that your reno costs so far are only 14.3K!! Power! He quoted us 19K after a lot of bargaining and give and take. We talked to him for over 4 hours during the first talk. lol. Think he was glad to say bye to us eventually.

hahaha telok blangah? That's super near my old place. well, our new places are quite near too. grin yeah, the kitchen is quite long (but that's good cause my fiancee LOVES to cook. AND she cooks well somemore. jialat. Ever since I dated her, my weight has ballooned so fast it's no joke boy.), but long kitchen = pay more money for extension to kitchen cabinet right?

True, but our father-mother loan is a bit tapped out cause after paying for our uni educations (and we each have a younger brother some more, so their uni educations are coming right up), they aren't that keen on the idea of loaning more. We went to several IDs already. grin. Told you we were itchy backsides. Pity we didn't discover this forum earlier. We might have gone to a different ID. But for now, this ID is pretty ok. Friendly and very accomodating. So no problems as yet Thanks for the advice! It's much appreciated!

Is it? oops.... How do I set up the blog? Actually, it doesn't really matter right? I mean, the aim is to chronicle the entire process, chat with people, share experiences and to share photos right? grin. I tried to set up a blog on this server earlier, but had some problems coz the link kept saying that URL not found. So gave up and set it up in the chat zone instead. heh. We're going for minimalist zen - zen cause it's nice and minimalist cause we're **** broke. ROFL We're both Catholics, so we're not THAT into fengshui yet. But better to be safe than sorry right? wow.... that means we still have some time to go. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they're supposed to hand over the unit within 3 months by right, correct? That means if I wait 1-2 months before getting that nice, wonderful letter, and then go down for 2 more appointments to finish up the paper work (which I assume will be evenly spread out with 2 weeks gap in between, so that will take another month), then go down to check for defects before reverting to HDB so that they can come and fix, and factoring another month for reno works to be done..... I'LL BE STUCK PAYING RENT FOR MY RENTAL CLEMENTI FLAT FOR SUPER LONG!

Thanks for the warm welcome once again. Hopefully everything goes well too....

Lol Thanks for the nice welcome to Jurong West. Actually to be honest, we weren't that keen on Jurong West at first cause I was a Dover boy all my life. Stayed there since I was born, so I was reluctant to leave the area. Tried to go for the Feb WIS for established towns, but all the units were snapped up super fast. So after much consideration, decided to settle for Jurong West. At least I'm still in the West side right? Havn't yet lei... We booked the flat on 10 Feb 07, then it's already the 1st of March today. The HLE is supposed to be "within 7 days" right? My fiancee called the customer service manager already and her reply was that, "Oh, you only booked on the 10th of Feb what... Very recent." People excited mah.... Everyday we log into HDB to see if there's any change, but it always says "HDB will invite you to sign the Agreement for Lease of the new flat in due course." LOL i know exactly what you mean. My fiancee and I go furniture hunting, ID hunting and forum browsing every single night until 1 am before we go to bed. We rented a flat at Clementi so that we could ascertain whether or not we could tahan each other's living habits. So far so good. Reno... sigh. My fiancee got her first application rejected from RHB bank yesterday, no reason given. Jan got frustrated so she went to buy her own credit bureau report. She used to work in a bank you see, so she got even more pek chek when she saw that her credit report was extremely good. Today we're meeting up with our ID to get more quotations from him so that she can apply for more banks. Hope everything turns out well.

Not bad what bro... the view is unobstructed. Quite soothing!
-
Oh by the way, this is the floor plan of the unit that we booked - a standard 5 room. Any fengshui experts in here or any ideas will also be greatly welcome. LOL Thank you, thank you. Guess you beat Ordie to it. Is this considered a t-blog already? Cause I seem to be having a bit of problem trying to create a blog in here

Hi guys, learnt of this online community yesterday and have beenhooked ever since. My fiancee and I recently booked a flat on the 10th of Feb 07 over at Blk 276B Jurong West Ave 3. Ever since then, we check the HDB website RELIGIOUSLY every single day to see if we can finally sign the official letter of lease or even collect keys. Chuckle. The itchy backside syndrome even led to us going furniture hunting and ID hunting almost every evening. A little more background info about us - we're both 25 this year and we met in JC where we were classmates, although we didn't get together until AFTER JC. What to do? I was with another girl during my entire JC period, so she had to wait. ROFL. She works in a HR firm after having worked with SIA and several banks while I am in my final few months over at NUS. So in the meantime, my poor fiancee has become my sugar mummy, not to mention the fact that she also has to take on the loans herself until I can graduate and help out. Any help from you guys along the way will be greatly appreciated!
