Electrical works commences! My appointed electrician is no other than my wife's very own Uncle, Mr Ong (Let's call him O from now on). Relation plays a very significant role here as it makes communication much easier, not to mention the quotation as well. :P

O is very professional, not only does he listens and understands all my requests, he also gave alot of good advises and ideas on the practical as well as aesthetic aspects of the electrical points.

Fortunately my flat does not comes with the default tiles. As you can see, many of my sockets, CAT6 data points and even TV points can be ran on the floor. Subsequently, HDB cement screed will cover them all! Brilliant idea from E and O.

You are one of the few that I know off is laying data points and tv point via the floor. The rest of them have been telling me to convert those RJ-11 to RJ-45.

the carpentry measurement was done before citigas came in with the pipe placement.so cannot say its their fault also cos citigas was the one who placed the pipe outside of the box...i think a unforeseen circumstance..

Huh? But ID should know that you are getting citigas to pull in the pipe mah, so should have arrange with you to ensure citigas pull in pipe before measurement is done what... This is very basic leh - very weird. Maybe you stress him too much that he forgot... hahahahaha

My ID ask if I am doing gas hob, and I was having one gas hob, and then say must get the gas pipe in first before the carpentry measurement can do leh.

The Mi Robot can go from room to room on the same level (no steps). No problem at all. I used it to clean level 2 of my house. It went from one room to another. The area occupied by the two beds cannot be cleaned as the beds here are platform beds i.e. on the ground, with no gap between bed and floor. If there is a gap of at least 10 cm, the Mi Robot will also clean under the bed.

Excellent! Ok, I am set to get this. Just need to know when it is available on sale! Haha.

Okay, I have put the iRobot Braava 380t to test. If I rate satisfaction level with the Mi Robot at 98%, then I would put the Braava 380t at 90%.

The Braava technology is a few years old, so it is not as smart as the Mi Robot. It is not able to cover every corner of the room. Whenever it hits an obstacle like the leg of a cabinet, it will turn back, unlike the Mi Robot which will go around it and continue to clean the area after the leg. Eventually, the Braava does attempt to come back to clean areas missed, but it is not 100%.

The Braava relies on a NorthStar Navigation Cube for navigation. You need to place this cube in the centre of the room. Hence, you can only clean one room at one time. At least that is what I think, unless your rooms are very small and the signal from the cube can reach all rooms. You can buy additional cubes at S$60 to extend coverage.

There is no mapping app like the Xiaomi app which can tell you which area the robot has covered. So, you need to watch or figure out where the Braava has missed.

Unlike the video shown in iRobot's video, the robot does not always move in a straight line. It does so only for dry mopping. I use it for wet mopping. For wet mopping, the Braava will move forward to the right, reverse, move forward to the left, reverse and so on. Like a skater.

The battery runs out quite fast. In my case, it lasts only for about two rooms. Then I have to recharge again, for 2 hours. When the Braava runs out of battery, it returns to starting position. Unlike the Mi Robot, it is not able to dock itself to the charging station.

If I can wait, I may wait for a better robot to appear in the market. Hopefully something equivalent to the Xiaomi Mi Robot vacuum cleaner. Nevertheless, this Braava still mops better than my helper! Maybe because for 90% of the floor, it mops 100%.

So you got a Mi Robot too? Does it do more than 1 room ah? I am contemplating to buy the Mi Robot, but not sure if it only cleans 1 room...

ya these bto layouts are not good for people who cook or bake often  i will have 3100 if i hack my service yard haha. still beats a 2400 one! dont think a 3 room bto kitchen can get any smaller than mine.

forgot to reply u abt the bread earlier. what kind do u make? most of the rustic bread i make eg baguette or ciabatta made with starter are dense also, but the japanese/breadtalk kind are usually softer because i use a mixture of bread & cake flour (high & low gluten) and i knead with my standmixer until when u stretch it will be translucent eg. must pass the window pane test. but bread that is dense has lots of causes also so its hard to troubleshoot. could be under or overproofing also. but u feel its the oven's problem? many ovens have different temp throughout, some are hotter inside, my convection is hotter outside near the door but since it has a turntable so my bakes are evenly baked throughout.

Normal one, like those Gardiner or Sunshine type - not rustic or soft type. Don't think it's the oven, but I am using my combi-oven to bake.

Now i use a bread maker and a rowenta oven to bake those individual buns.. Going to use bosch in my new home

I also failed with bread maker lor!!! Borrowed my friend's bread maker and follow the instructions in the manual, but still comes out bad!

So I am hopeless with bread making!!! :P

you have a point! not hacking & doing away with windows is the best of both worlds. i do not like to clean windows, ever. especially not when there are so many panels! i think if yr kitchen is big(ger) u can do that but mine is a laughable 2.4m or less, i really dont know how to utilize that space if i dont do away with the service yard. imagine having to cram everything like stove, sink, fridge, rice cooker in there. omg haha, hardly any space at countertop. my neighbor already renovated :

    IMG_5544.JPG

as u can see, stove & sink is nx to each other, and fridge already put the other side. and so only can utilize that small counter together with the dining table. i so wanna cry lor.

My kitchen according to floor plan size is slightly smaller than 3100 x 2800 (since part of the wall that meets the common bathroom eats into this space), it will be a challenge too. Not forgetting the BS door opens into the kitchen as well near to the kitchen door...

So not much bigger than yours lah.

Pre-wedding photoshoot! Haha missed out on an important word :P Brought our own gowns & suit, did own make up/hair & took the photos ourselves.

Oh... Ok. Yeah no one says you can't, just that it's a bit easier to have someone to take care of it, unless you are very good with make up/hair... Photo taking - NZ is anywhere also nice, so you just have to plonk yourself and adjust; can work, just need to go back and forth from the cam, unless your cam can be remote viewing using something else, like ipad or something.

yup thats what i was told, warranty for floors and walls will be void. but thats ok, i cannot live with a 2.4m kitchen if i don't hack the service yard so i will take the risk. so you'll remove the windows & door so the yard area looks like it has a half wall? its the wall that is "zhor deng".

good question abt the oven, honestly i have no idea/preference at all. and i wouldn't know as well since i haven't worked with a built in oven before. but if given a choice (and budget), most likely it will be european brand like bosch, miele, teka. but honestly to me, an oven is just a tool, it doesn't affect the outcome of yr product much. its ok as long as it does the job. i've been baking for 10 years with a small 28L panasonic microwave/convection oven, even churning out difficult bakes like macarons and croissant with no difficulty. i'm actually geared towards attractively priced bundles like hood+hob+oven or hob oven & sink sort of thing. so i will take anything that is cheap. honestly though, european brands in sg are not very good. i hear that parts are rare and expensive, and the customer service are also not responsive.

For my case, it's not so much of "zhor deng" - I can still take it lah although it would be nice to have more space, but it's the extra cleaning I have to do with the (louvre) windows and that door. Since I am going to put windows at the SY, I might as well remove these so that I don't have extra things to clean! More light to the kitchen too!

Oh.. Ok. Hiaz... I am doing with my current combi oven and some turns out ok, some don't, but overall it was ok. Failed with bread, so never try croissants - all bread I make are so dense, that it's not really bread to me! This will be my first huge oven, so want to find something that will not given me problems (like I have to turn it around half way through the bake because it's hotter inside and all that).

But anyway, we just returned from a trip to NZ where we DIYed our own photoshoot (another story to be told another time, if anyone happens to be interested about how we did it!). I've a lovely colleague who loaned us his GoPro for our trip so I took the chance to capture some images of our home in its current state  The wide angle of the GoPro is perfect for taking home photos hehe.

    Huh? "DIYed own photoshoot"? For?

    Can elaborate?

Hi, Im not sure about item no 1.

For item 2. Under HDB ruling, no hacking is to be done in kitchen and bathroom. But owner can submit for approval to conceal the 2" drainage pipe under your present kitchen flooring. I suppose there might be some undertaking. Correct me if i am wrong.

Er, I only read no hacking of flooring in bathroom, have not seen anything about kitchen. I will be asking for removal of the windows and door at the kitchen/SY part, so I will be submitting that for approval. Thought of having the whole wall hacked, but then I was told the warranty on the flooring for both kitchen and SY will be gone, so decided to to remove the windows and doors only.

@matchalatte since you are a baker, what build-in oven are you getting? I am still deliberating on which one should I get and don't seem to be able to make up my mind! LOL! I don't have one at the moment but would like to have it in my upcoming BTO flat, so really looking around, and asking around... Most of my friends say Bosch.

    Hi,

I found this website which I think can answer most of your questions.

    http://www.patnotebook.com/bto-networking-singapore/

Thanks! But I can't really see the writing on cable in the wall to confirm it's cat 6 and not cat5e. However, there is a possibility that it's cat 6, since one photo did show some plastic separator in the centre of cable which is only available in cat 6 cables. That would be good news as no need to lay new cat6 lines, although I would have gone for cat 6a instead of cat 6 if I need to lay the cables.

The only thing is they are retiring the "analog" phones. So if there is an issue with your fibre exchange, it also means you got no phone to use too!!! Whereas in the older areas where "analog" is still available, your fiber exchange will not affect the phone.

    @ Raylowwl & Kingandbin

This is how the internal DB box/area look like.

    IMG_3047.JPG

Would you be able to take a photo of the internal of the metal box? And is there any circuit map/drawing for the telephone wiring - which may be able to tell what kind of cables they are actually using? This is the 2nd time I have heard that they are using cat6 cables, but no one seems to be able to confirm it.
