  1. Congrats congrats! Hope your renovation can be completed in time so that you can move in to your new place while welcoming this little new member of your family. 双喜临门!!
  2. You mean the fallen chandelier incident? It was fixed onto a concrete wall. I guess the two screws weren't sufficient to support the weight of the chandelier, that's why it fell. You gotta ask your electricians to take note of the weight of the chandelier and take extra precaution when installing it. It wouldn't give them too much trouble to put more enforcement. Better be safe than sorry.
  3. Hey yo dreamzgal! Thanks a lot~! Yeah the replacement will be arriving today or tomorrow. I can't wait to see it up again in the passageway! So thrilled *and scared* too. Wahahahaha!
  4. I also not sure how they check the chandelier above the dining table, have to check with my mom cause she's the one who spoke to the ID & electrician boss yesterday while I'm working in the office.
  5. Hahaha.. It's okay to reveal it. I don't mind anyway. LOL! Did you also choose the partial blackout blind too? Did he provide you with a good quote too? Hahaha... Pardon my questionsssss.
  6. Yeah, I will make sure the replacement set is super secured. Maybe going to ask them to use super glue, screws, scotch-tape, staples etc when they fix it up. Maybe I will add some masking tape after it's up. Wahahaha.... Super kiasu! Ya, I'm also glad that they took responsibility, otherwise it will be heart pain for me. Imagine the excitement from first-time purchase on Taobao, saw the delivery arrived at my house and then have this piece of enthusiasm transform into disappointment. How drastic is that. Hahaha...
  7. Hahaha.. Yeah, the good thing is no one get hurt when it falls, so that's already a big blessing. Anyway just taking it as a grand opening ceremony to my new house. As the saying goes,“落地开花,财神到我家!” Hahahahaha!
  8. Ya, I really become fragile beng when I saw the broken pieces of the fallen chandelier. The heartache was even stronger when I recalled how much time (2+hours) and sweat I dripped to get all the crystals to be installed on the chandelier. The electrician boss say he got ready stock available for replacement, hopefully it's not a 2nd hand model. Ohhhhh, you met up with Ryan. How was it? Was he as friendly & helpful as what I have mentioned? Did you sign with him?
  9. Lol! Suddenly Edd's T-blog become a platform for 'cleaning' education. Hahahahaha!
  10. Yaaaa. I guess everyone in Punggol can hear my heart shattering sound on Sunday. I'm so lucky I saw your post in time so I managed to call my mom now to inform the ID and his electricians to check on the hanging light above my dining table. Whewwwww... Thanks bud! Anyway the electrician boss told me that he will compensate an exact similar model to me, plus installation, at no cost. He said that he's apologetic over the incident and glad that nobody is injured when the chandelier collapsed. I told him to make sure the lighting set are tightly screwed to the ceiling and ensure that there are sufficient support for the weight of the chandelier. My ID told me that they will fix the lighting set for me either tomorrow or on Friday, and will replace the dented tiles after the passageway chandelier is fixed up. I'm grateful that despite the messages my ID sent earlier, they are taking full responsibility of the unfortunate event. Shall give him a thumbs-up for this. As for my TV console, I'm thinking of liaising with the carpenter to see if he can assist me with drilling the holes because he should have the equipment. If there's additional cost involved, I guess I will have no choice but to pay him for the services. Can't possibly allow all the wires to appear all over my console, that will be too ugly.
  11. Haha.. I wanted to do like lawrenceke, recycle the extra granite materials from the kitchen top and make them into corner shelves like yours. However, my ID told me that there will be extra cost incurred because the workers need to cut out the exact sizes, trim the edges and smoothen all the surfaces before they can install it. I did not want to incur additional cost , so I withdraw the idea. Hahaha!
  12. Hello fellow Punggolian! Welcome to Renotalk! Is that really the view from the service yard? It looks very X 1470148781904791047902790278902571054 gorgeous!
  13. Lol.. You two have good eyesight!
  14. Ya, it was purchased from fortytwo.sg (they have rebranded themselves from beds.sg). I'm pretty satisfied with this table set. It cost around SGD 730.00. You can also consider it.
  15. 23rd June 2013 - Official House Moving Day (Continue...) PART II After I filled my ever-expanding tummy with those marvelious hawker food, I left the table to join my sister to unpack our belongings into the wardrobes. While I was in my room gleefully singing and dancing to some Jay Chou songs and folding clothes into my brand new 7 feet wardrobe, I heard a loud "BANG" and immediately dashed out of the room to find out what's going on. Upon witnessing what had happened, I instantly felt a jolt of pain to my heart. MY CRYSTAL CHANDELIER IN THE PASSAGEWAY HAD FALLEN AND SHATTERED INTO PIECES! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I was rooted to the spot but was alert to do a quick glance at the surrounding to ensure that nobody was hurt in the process. My aunt immediately grabbed a broom and helped to sweep the glass pieces into an empty box while I straight away took out my mobile phone and gave my ID a call. My anger rose to the ceiling when he refused to pick up my calls even after I left 3 missed calls on his phone. Without hesitation, I whatsapp him the details of the incident, along with the photos, and told him to question the electricians why the chandelier wasn't properly fixed up and hence resulted in this mishap. I even let him understand that due to this incident, the tiles underneath the lighting set had several dent marks. He replied within 2 minutes, offering his words of sympathy by saying,"This shouldn't happen. I am sorry about that but I believe they did put the screw to the ceiling. Looking at the picture, the concrete ceiling is not strong enough to support the weigh of the chandelier. We have fixed up many hanging lights from our past experiences and none has fallen. I will get my electricians to go up and check for you. Please do not throw away the lighting set." He subsequently sent another message to my mobile, saying,"I have checked with the electricians. They told me that they are very sure that they have tighten the screw and the plug. It might be loose again when you pull them during the crystal installation. They will be going up to your place to check on Wednesday and provide you with a more complete answer." I almost died of high blood pressure when I saw the two messages and immediately replied in a extremely annoying manner,"There's no way I had pulled out the circuit board when I install the crystals. You guys can argue all you want that the screws and plugs were tightly fixed on the ceiling but if you all know that the installation is not able to support the weight of the chandelier, then why not insert more screws or screw it deeper into the ceiling to ensure there is a greater support! I need a better explanation than this!" Well, they will be coming up on Wednesday (which is 5pm today) to examine the damaged chandelier and the ceiling but I'm definitely sure they will come up with a million excuses to shirk responsibility. Here are the pictures of the unfortunate incident :- 1) My heart broke when I saw this 2) 3) Only dangling electrical wires remained on this empty ceiling
  16. 23rd June 2013 - Official House Moving Day It's finally the day! From the first day the application was submitted, to the day we received the notification from HDB to collect the keys, to the commencement of the renovation, till its completion. 3++++ YEARS! It all comes down to this date, 23rd June 2013! Looking back, it's really a super super long process. Even though we slept very late the night before, we woke up early in the morning to begin the final preparation. When the clock strikes 1330 hours, my mom returned home and together with the rest of the family members and the help of our relatives, we moved all the boxes to the 3 vehicles for this huge mission. They subsequently left without me as I'm still busy clearing some stuff at the old house and I do not want them to miss the auspicious timing because of me. After I'm done, I immediately rushed down to the new place in a cab and by the time I reached (about 15 minutes after them), the deity statues had already been placed properly on the altar table. I straight away went downstairs to assist the rest of them to carry the bulky boxes to the house. After 10 minutes of hard work, we managed to shift all the heavy boxes and place them randomly all over the house. While we are busy unpacking the items from the boxes, my mom and aunt went to the sole coffeeshop around the vicinity to buy food for everyone so that we can all crowd around the dining table and have a hearty meal together after all these hard work. Here are some of the pictures:- 1) Boxes lying in 'no-man's land' (passageway). Hahaha! 2) Boxes in my sister's room 3) My items! Wahahahahahaha! 4) Lunch-time! Wooohooooooooo!
  17. 22nd June 2013 (Continued...) PART III After all the items were delivered and properly installed, my sister came over and assisted me with one of the toughest task of the day - fixing the crystals to the chandeliers. Without any instruction manual, I did a screenshot of the completed lighting sets on Taobao on my mobile phone and began using my way to fix the crystal balls up. The process is pretty simple but it involves a lot of effort, as there are just too many items to hang on the chandelier. It certainly did not help that my sister is nagging all the way while I'm busy doing the fixing work (she has sure inherited my mom's nagging ability, wahahahahaha! ). After a long long long process, the two chandeliers were finally ready to blossom with full spectrum of lights. Here are the pictures:- 1) The hanging chandelier on top of the dining table (The guy in the background is the carpenter) 2) A picture of the dining chandelier taken from below (please ignore the missing crystal ball, I have fixed it in after this picture was taken) 3) Ta-daaaaaaaa! It's gorgeous right! The dining set (table+chairs) are also equally awesome! Me love love them. 4) This passageway chandelier is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more tedious than the dining chandelier. My arm almost sore to numbness while fixing its crystals up. 5) Lights on! Totally add elegance to the otherwise dull passageway (however.......................... Stay tuned!)
  18. AWESOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEE! Time to stock up on thinners! Woohoo!
  19. It's less than $300. However, if you did not opt for remote controller, it will be wayyyyyyyyyy cheaper. I guess you can negotiate with Eric on the price. Not very convenient for me to reveal the full amount. Anyway it's confirmed cheaper than market rate, like how he always highlight in his thread "hope u'll save some bucks n buy me KOPI". Try to PM him.
  20. I will steal EVERYTHING! LOL! Your house is just toooooooooooo beautifully renovated. My friend is also looking at your shower bench idea. He is planning & exploring the possibility of fixing something similar in his future home. You should charge him copyright fees. Hahahaha! Yeah. A lot of money have been draining out of my thin wallet because I fancied new items. My mom has also been nagging at me for spending unnecessary cash on replacement items.
  21. 22nd June 2013 (Continued...) PART II 6) The sofas, beds, carpets etc etc. All in the corridor. Told ya~! It's really a mess! Hahaha! 7) The delivery guys from Hommage Trading. They are trying to fix up the TV console before carrying it into the house. 8) Almost done! Woohooo! 9) The completed unit. I'm kinda upset that there's only one hole in the center for the wires to go through. Ask the TV mounting guys (from Samsung) to help me drill two holes but they declined and claimed that they are unable to do it because if they damage the TV console, they are unable to compensate it. Called Hommage to send guys to fix the holes but they also declined and claimed that they are only a 3rd party purchasing directly from the factory, so they are not responsible for drilling additional holes. Soooooooooo pissed off with their 'Taiji' skills . Guess I gotta do it on my own. ROAAAAAAARRRRRRRR! 10) My queen-sized bed! Hooooooray!
  22. 22nd June 2013 Took leave on Saturday to station myself in my new house very early in the morning because 99% of the items which I had ordered, via shops or online, will be arriving. The first thing (or human) to arrive in the morning at 10am is..................Eric & his female co-worker (I supposed she's the wife). You guys & girls might be scratching your head thinking who the **** is Eric. My apologies for not highlighting it earlier . I have engaged him to install the ceiling fan in my living hall. He came about one month ago to take the measurement and jotted the details on a notebook. At that time, he requested for a $50 deposit without issuing a receipt to me, merely asking me to snap a picture of the information on his notebook as a form of agreement. He promised that he won't run away with the money and will come to fix the ceiling fan up on the proposed installation date. My mom is a little skeptical about the way how this transaction is being conducted but due to his popularity in Renotalk (his thread: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/42519-ceiling-fans-lights-led/), I reassured my mom that he can be trusted. Fast forward one month, he arrived on time with the ceiling fan parts and the installation was completed within 30 minutes without any hassle. His services are on par with the curtain-specialist Ryan and he even provided excellent advices me on ceiling lights. Before he and his female partner left my unit, he passed me the warranty card and told me that anything wrong with the ceiling fan I can call him directly on his mobile, no transport fee & no consultation fees like the other Franco dealers. Top-notch services! Here are the pictures of the ceiling fan:- 1) The black Franco 56" ceiling fan (w remote controller) 2) When the ceiling fan is turned on....... After Eric left, I stayed on to continue my patient wait for the items. The electricians arrived shortly to install the outstanding lightings, which I had initially purchased wrongly or contain defects and made the exchange prior to Saturday. I also took the opportunity to highlight to them that the protective plastic layer on the crystal chandeliers are not removed, so they need to help me tear the plastic. This turns out to be a bad decision as one of the worker damaged the chandelier in the passageway. He accidentally removed the metal screw-thread in one of the light-bulb holder and as a result, the bulb cannot be fixed back. He advised me to exchange the whole crystal chandelier in the shop I had purchased from but I look at him in a pissed-off manner and told him that this was purchased from Taobao (China), so I can't possibly get it exchange, unless he don't mind forking out the freight & transportation charges. He immediately apologized and returned to rectify the problem. While the two electricians are busy cracking their heads to fix the chandelier issue, all the ordered items arrived one after another at the same time, making the whole house and common corridor pretty chaotic. The electricians managed to fix the issue but the solution was not a permanent one. They have just merely slotted rubber insulation tubes into empty spaces in the bulb-holders and used a makeshift metal wire to connect the electricity to the bulb. However, I cannot think of other solutions, so I just shook my head and resigned to fate that this is the best method available. However, the worst is yet to come and I shall cover this in my next update. Meanwhile, check out these pictures taken on 22nd June 13:- 3) One of the electricians installing the final downlight 4) The praying altar. This is not complete, I have forgotten to snap a picture of the full set. 5) The Samsung TV and the audio equipment from Harvey Norman. Came with a free luggage too!
  23. Hahaha! Guess you can start composing song lyrics cause 'la' and 'ha' rhymed so well! LOL! Yeah, guess I have to ask my mom to visit the market often to hear from those aunties what cleaning agent is good for what kind of surface. Hopefully can get rid of those white spot stains asap cause it's a sore to the eye. Hehehe..
  24. Haha! Thanks mrmerry! So glad that you will be graduating with me soon. Went over to peep at your T-blog, your house is truly an inspiration for us. Sibey sibey swee swee ! Gonna steal some idea from your house if I'm gonna shift house again . Hahaha! Oh gosh.. Thanks for the reminder on the cleaning too!
  25. Yeahhhhhhh! It's time to party! Just kidding. No time to party. Must go home after work to continue the cleaning/unpacking duties.
