  1. Welcome! Your unit looks like it's in great condition....well, maybe need to change that hot pink wall paint color....too bright even for me as a gal.
  2. Er....noob question. What are CAT6 cables for ?
  3. The wavy lines are not obvious in photos coz I'm using my not-too-great handphone camera....but here's how it looks like in close-up. The slightly different colored wavy lines are going sideways. You can also lay the tile so that the lines go upwards toward the ceiling....but since my kitchen is squarish, and the common toilet even smaller, contractor said will lay it sideways so your eyes make you think it's wider than it really is.
  4. Decisions! Lots of decisions to make! Went with contractor to site ( he drove. ) to discuss electrical power points, and some miscellaneous stuff. Wrought iron main gate picked. The 'wood' bits will be replaced with metal, in same color as the rest of the door. Will be in black silver color. Quartz top...er....should I pick the cabinet laminate first before I decide on this ? Contractor says the 2 colors at the top left hand corner are the most picked [iGalaxy and iCrystal] ....but it really depends on individual preference coz he just did one in red. Sorry, can't get the other pic to show up in the correct orientation....just wanted to show that the names of the colors were on top of the sample blocks. Picture orientation shows up correctly now. strange.. This is one heavy piece of sample.... Only the top two rows can be chosen though....the bottom 2 rows are more expensive, not included in my quote. (meaning I need to top up $ if I pick those lah...) Also have a Nippon paint catalogue, Jennings laminate catalog to pick out paint colors and laminate colors... So much to decide all of a sudden.
  5. wahahah.. the very big me can be seen leh. Paiseh. Anyways, not a lot more lah. That pic just shows the bigger wall where you can see the pattern the tiles were laid. Basically it's 2 ivory across, followed by 2 black tile across, so on so forth... I didn't quite understand the contractor when he called me to say 2 lines white, 2 lines black, will be nice..but I just asked him to go ahead. He's done so much more homes, I think he would know better what works... The tile also has a wavy line pattern and the contractor also told me he will lay it so that the wavy lines go length-wise to trick your eyes that your bathroom is wider...
  6. As I just posted, I am going for a super single bed. I am the type that sleeps in position A and wakes up in the same position A. So personally, a queen sized bed feels 'eerie' for me coz there will be a huge space beside which I will *never* use. In fact when I go overseas trip and they give me queen / king sized bed in the room, I have to put my travel bag or put a pillow in that big space there...hahaha....I keep thinking *something* is there in that empty space. Me too, will also be desk and wardrobe all in the same room....easy access mah...Haha...
  7. Damages for today ~ 1. Ikea : Curtain rods / brackets/ rod finish/ curtains. 2. Courts - Fridge & Bed+ Mattress Fridge : Copycat again. Got the exact same one as mom. Samsung 332 litres nett capacity, top freezer type. Wanted a 2 door fridge mid sized fridge but there isn't much selection.Seems to have more big fridges than small ones. Besides this Samsung, only saw one other mid-sized one by Panasonic, but it was more expensive and wasn't with inverter technology. Here's how the fridge looks like - picture from Samsung's website Bed + Mattress : Got a Max Coil mattress (Firmess : 8/10) - I like my mattress firm...I joke if there is a 10/10 mattress and the sales man from the fridge section laughed and said 'wah~as hard as stone. Like sleeping on the floor'. I am currently using a max coil, so I'm ok with this brand. Got a Super Single Mattress, Model is known as 'Seraphic', sales gal (was passed on to her coz she's the in charge at the bedding section) said it is orthopedically designed, latex top. Dunno the difference, but this one gave me the 'best' feeling when I laid down on it. It seemed to contour to my back. I did try other brands, even one with firmness rating of 9/10, but didn't like them. The bed frame came FOC with the mattress purchase. Also got a pillow and mattress protector thrown in FOC. No pics to show for this. Will have to do pics later when they are delivered.
  8. Went to unit in the morning today to measure for curtain rods again...coz absent minded me accidentally left the slip of paper with the measurements I took previously in the office....haiz.... Looking on the bright side, saw more progress. Service balcony tiles are up too...Hmm..there is a open grille there..not sure what it is for...but how to cover this thing arh? Mom who was with me says rain will come in and 'flood' my service yard if I left it like this. Some of the tiles for the common bathroom are done too. Waist pouch must be belonging to one of the 2 tilers there when we visited. There is another photo, but I just realised the tiles were so reflective you can see the very big me reflected there. And the shirtless tiler behind me.... Cannot post that photo. Will have to retake at a later date.
  9. Oh, I know this one. This was what was used by mum for 20 odd years...the left side was used to put a on counter dish rack. She just changed recently to a single bowl sink.
  10. doh! Need a HDMI cable to connect the device to the TV....and it's not included in the package... 2nd thing in the manual says 'Install' - connect item via HDMI cable to TV....and there is no cable included in the package....how clever...... And nope, it's not that I got an item with missing items. The standard package as stated on the manual is just the device, a power plug, a remote control and the manual. There are even 2 AAA batteries for the remote included but no cable. Have to go get myself a cable liao....
  11. Same on my side...will be getting sliding window for service yard. But then, I am used to sliding windows, so would have asked for sliding anyways even if not suggested by contractor. I am also replacing all the grilles for the whole house....doing horizontal grilles too. Easier to wipe lah....just straight across. Lazy person here! My current window grilles are like yours - bronze with squarish patterns.
  12. Thanks ya! Hmm.....Let me figure that out....how much is good for food preparation.....length of chopping board? Single or Double, depends on your usage I guess. My mom has always had a single sink, her main utensil as mentioned is the black chinese wok, so the single sink allows the wok to fit (mostly..she has this huge 17 inch wok which cannot fit fully The 14 inch one fits) and scrub that wok properly. Cons probably is when she has stuff defrosting in the sink, you cannot wash plates/etc until whatever it is that has defrosted is taken out of the sink, else you get soap water onto your food. [no microwave in my current home, so defrosting frozen stuff is done the very 'traditional' way...aka. let it sit in the sink until ice melts. ] My contractor actually recommends double sink. He was saying the smaller bowl is very useful. Probably for letting dishes dry and maybe for food defrosting I guess...
  13. I'm not getting a hood, not sure if this is a bad idea....but I've lived without a hood here in spite of mom cooking everyday and the cooking fumes do not affect the living room as far as I can tell. My sister's house is also without a hood in her kitchen, and it hasn't affected her kitchen/hall much (she doesn't cook often~probably will be more like my usage frequency). So yes, as of now, I'm not planning to get a hood, unless something major changes my mind. For cooker hob and sink, I'm asking the contractor to get them for me. He got a 'Rubine' sink for my mom's place who just completed renovation and it looks fine to me. I asked about the cooker hob as well and the price he told me is also slightly lower than Court's prices....so asked him to get it for me as well. I am a 'copycat'...wahahah....copying mom's choice for the cooker hob, so I already know the specific model and brand I want. I am definitely going for a single sink, due to my usage....I am not one of those folks who will wash and dry crockery / utensils. Am too used to just popping up the dish wet or otherwise onto the dish rack and let it 'dry naturally'. So if I get a double sink, I will be just wasting space. The smaller bowl will likely be there just 'for show' and not used at all. Also, a bigger single bowl can fit a smallish chinese black wok, so easier for me to wash that. Despite me not being able to cook, I'm still going to get a black wok. Maybe can learn from Mom. Hee....that's the single most used utensil I've seen in her kitchen.
  14. hohoho....I went thinking other way round. Super noob here. Thanks for the pointer. I am likely to get a small to mid sized fridge coz I dunno how to cook ~ I can probably burn water too! So the fridge is likely only for those chilled beverages...and the 'bad' stuff like chocs and ice-cream....whahahah.... But who knows, maybe after I start living independently I'll try to figure out how to cook without destroying the place...let me think think more about the 'correct' size fridge to get. Thanks for the pointer on the spacing. Will ask about this when the time comes for carpenter to take measurements. Hee.... Maybe should go fridge shopping this weekend~
  15. I second this....they don't check for irregularities....even for big items. The big concrete stove in my resale unit's service balcony raised no red flags...however, when I read on HDB's renovation guidelines, it says construction of stove and/or cooking is not allowed in the original service balcony/yard. I think HDB is operating on a 'no complaints received = no action taken' basis.
  16. Layout pics from contractor....this one helps visualise how the kitchen looks like. Think not drawn to scale, but still the cooker hob looks a tad too close to the sink...any experts out there who know if there is a recommended distance between hob and sink? The tall unit on that new wall done up (originally was the common bathroom entrance). I asked if I can have a open shelf in the middle to put a microwave instead of sacrificing counter space...haven't heard back from contractor yet. The space beside this unit is meant for my fridge ~ which I haven't bought yet coz I wasn't sure how much space I would have....
  17. Left with AA or AAA size. I mean common battery sizes are just these few...unless it's one of those exotic square battery types?
  18. Haha...can actually ask the gas company lah. they might offer to waive it to get you to switch leh....LOL... Congrats on your move!
  19. No idea if it's true, but 2 separate contractors told me that the original HDB windows are 'good quality' aluminium, should keep if they are in good working condition. If you see my blog, I am keeping mine. {or most of it.} For mine, those in the service balcony needs to go due to the faulty track....I went to verify, it's true that one of the windows track has some problems, one pane of window cannot slide unless I push VERY hard...and the 2 rusty rusty bathroom lourve type windows.
  20. By the way, if anyone is interested. For wardrobes, I see a lot of folks in Renotalk custom make theirs. Just wanted to share....I have an existing wardrobe in my current room that is modular in nature, you can customise to a certain extent. e.g. 6 ft or 8 ft, with top compartments or not. Configurations inside the wardrobe can be chosen based on your needs. I see it's available at fortytwo.sg : http://www.fortytwo.sg/bedroom-furniture/modular-wardrobe/crisford-modular-wardrobe-a.html WARNING : I did not get mine from fortytwo, so check out the reviews on their site if you decide to buy. I got my wardrobe from one of those furniture shops located in HDB estate...they don't have showroom - it's mostly catalog based, so far have gotten stuff from them and they are all good. The prices from this type of shops are already inclusive of installation and delivery, so no additional charges from the prices they quote. Only drawback is they don't accept credit cards....so no cashback/points to earn from the purchase.
  21. Yep. I am not going to scrimp and having to fork out a lot more $ later for repairs. I have asked for quotes for all those stuff I know I can't live with, it's just that there are 'surprises' along the way. Haha....I actually have made more changes since I posted that quote and the other stuff listed above. I haven't posted those because it's all verbally discussed, no quotes, no pictures to show yet. For me, I am saving mostly on customised capentry. There are so many furniture shops out there,my rooms are mostly squarish/rectangular in shape, so I'm sure the 'standard' mass production should be able to fit without having to custom make. Hi~ yes, agree if a lot of repairs needed...might as well get new ones. Most times not worth it to repair an appliance...the on-going repairs might cost as much as getting a new one...
  22. Is it the connector to the LPG gas bottle? That one is specific to whichever 'brand' of LPG gas you're using...or so I think. Mom's place is using LPG and when she changed the LPG supplying company, she had to pay to change the connecting thing. Some brands' LPG gas connector to the bottle is 'snap-on'. Some are just put it on and turn a lever to secure. Personally, the snap-on one is more difficult to handle coz you have to get the correct angle to be able to snap it on.
  23. Planning to hook it up to the mom's existing TV this weekend to see what it does. I hope it's 'idiot proof'....I am quite hopeless with electronics most of the time.
  24. Master bathroom pictures....More half-done walls. Apparently, my first choice tiles were available... There is one strange pipe coming out of the wall at an angle..probably about 30(?) degree slant...didn't notice this one at all previously...heh...it's obvious to me now only because the angle now causes a slight gap on the side. Will see what happens to this later~ The master bathroom other wall, with the window. The rusty window needs to be replaced, so tiler says tiling will not go up at this area until after windows are changed...
  25. More pictures~ went to take a look after work today. Scared the tiler out of his wits...hahahha....I know someone was still inside the unit as I heard the radio on...before I can go hunting where the worker is, he walked out of the master bedroom and saw me standing in the living room. Kitchen, partially done. Edges not finished, grouting not done yet ~
