i like the effect after overlaying of tiles in your master bedroom toilets. nice. expensive but money well spend right? ya, kitchen tiles confirm can hack. anyway, if HDB approves the work as stated in the permit, then no need to worry already.

Not much development on the reno. So spend the weekends buying more stuff for our new home. Bought lights from PanTech @ Jurong East. Mainly PLC and fluorescent lights. But still come out to be $944! !! Then today went to bought switches that we are going to replace for the whole house. Bought this series... Quite cheap.... $1.40 for a 1-gang 1-way switch.

hi, storage heater - only electrical (altho some countries have gas storage heater). u will have a big big tank most probably in the kitchen. instant heater - can be gas or electrical. electrical will be installed inside your bathroom. for the gas one like what you mentioned, will be installed outside the bathroom because of safety reason. there is a "tank" but it doesn't store water. it contains the heating element to heat up the water when water passes thru it. welcome. but how come so late then collect keys? I shifted my SCV points and others to the other side of the wall too. (in fact I relocated 80% of my power and lighting points.) my electrician laid them along the bare floor to the other side. this will be covered by the cement screed and tiles. let your ID know before laying of the tiles.

Reno is going at a slower pace now as wet work, ceiling work and electrical work all mostly done. In fact will be taking a 2 weeks break as will be waiting for the capentary shifu to be available. Today the first coat of painting is done. Living room.... white all round with grey false ceiling. Bedroom.... same theme.

storage heater - good for people with rain shower, bath tub as capacity is higher. but it also means that it has a slightly higher running cost. also needs to heat up the tank first. instant heater - there are 2 type, gas and electric. for the gas type, city gas has run out of the free give away. for gas instant heater, you will have a gas pipe running basically all round your kitchen. pro is lower running cost as gas is cheaper. electric instant heater is installed inside the bathroom near your shower point, supplying hot water to that bathroom only. hence no unsightly gas pipe or water pipe. however, you need one for each bathroom. The switch will be at the entrance to your kitchen. The storage heater will be installed just outside your common toilet bcos the hot/cold water inlet is there, the U shape thing just above those switches outside the toilet. no leh.... for me, i only have some minor defects. reported, they rectified and signed off the form. now i'm into my reno. must really monitor the water slippage problem.

do drop by, you won't regret. went there 3 times actually. the first 2 time, a lot of people, so didn't managed to see a lot of stuff. thought we will not buy anything from there. however, the 3rd time we went, we were early and there was no one else. we were served by henry full heartedly and he showed as a lot of stuff that he did not displayed. in the end bought most of our bathroom stuff from him.

Hi, If I remember correctly, I think it's $2.30 psf. The box-up at the toilets come original from HDB. Well, there were some chips. But after grout line filled, they are not obvious anymore. Moreover, most are at non-noticeable area e.g. behind my future mirror, vanity cabinet etc. So I'm living with it as I think having to re-do them may cause more problem.

spam... spam... hope to see more pics soon.

me and my partner were also at royal fanco yesterday too. seems like a lot of JMers bought stuff from them. when henry asked for my address, he commented "dun tell me it's Jalan Membina".

Last Day of Feb 08 Updates Today seems to be a good day. A lot of things were done. The kitchen floor tiles are fully laid. Kitchen Cabinet Base is set. The cement screeding for the bedroom is also finally done. When I went up at 11, it still look wet. False ceiling **** hall with light holder is up. False ceiling at the foyer area. Dangling wire for my rear speakers of my home theatre system.

Realised that my toilet floor and wall tiles are not aligned. Is this acceptable?
-
After the grout lines are filled, the rough edges are not too obvious. still deciding whether to accept it or not.
-
hi mafiawife, ha ha, great minds think alike. and surprising the tile is not expensive. u got it from LSH too? BTW do you have problem with the tiles? some pieces of mine had some chipped off corners.

just talked to sis n found more details. apparently city gas has already run out the free 5L model of the gas heater. they are not bringing them in anymore as it is obsolete already. for those who still want the gas heater can opt for the 8L model. but i think need to topup. for those going for the gas heater, you may want to confirm this and maybe think of alternatives. the wash basin can be dismantled quite cleanly. my ID did that for me.

Update on 28 Feb 08 Today seems to be a slow moving day. Nothing much seems to happen. Only more tiles were laid, including our common toilet floor. Another view of the master bedroom toilet. Another view of the common toilet. Common toilet floor tiles. Realised that the wall tiles and the floor tiles are not aligned? It this normal???

just heard that city gas will be stopping the promo for the free gas heater thing wef 1 apr 08. got to pay after that. dunno how true it is. for those who are interested in taking up the free heater offer may want to check it out.

Update for 27 Feb 08 Today we hit the first upset of our reno journey. More on that later. Some latest pictures to share first. Common toilet wall tiles are up. Combi of black and white tiles. The same theme that we are using throughout the whole house. A closer look at the black tiles. Fine lines as pattern to break the boring plain look. Please pardon the dirty look. The while tiles will look similar, just that it's white. Master bedroom toilet wall tiles are up. Marble look alike white tiles. A closer look at the tiles. Herein lies our first upset. The quality of the tiles we used for the master bedroom toilet wall is not too good. Found that there are quite a no. of tiles with chipped corners and jaggered edges. Hopefully, it will be better after the grout lines are filled up. More kitchen wall tiles are up. Initially we were quite worried about the effect of this tile. But after seeing them laid across a big piece of wall, quite like the look. This picture captures the difference between the new tiles and the original HDB provided tiles. Materials for my false ceiling are loaded. According to my ID, ceiling work will start tomorrow or the day after.
