  1. Some quick updates on the renovation progress. Walls have been hacked and air con trunking up and tiles are done! Although still left the skirting to be completed. Loving how our floor looks now Toilet tiles, we have a "feature wall" at one side and the rest are the beige-y tiles. Quite a bad picture haha but I love how it turned out, given that we chose these tiles on a whim And our tv console, a raw concrete slab with exposed bricks (cant see much because its covered by the cardboard) + 10% done feature wall using craftbricks. Bought them from Malaysia and saved a bundle yay TV console from the side. Tile work should be done by next wk and then its carpentry!
  2. Hey JohnB, Just wanted to give you a shout-out. Thanks for the recommending the uni-arm, I installed it after seeing your blog post. Totally worth it!! and Kelvin was such a nice chap! he even gave free home networking advice
  3. Furniture Post Window shopping at quite a few furniture places, shortlisted several items but in the end, we bought most of our key furniture from Castlery.com. There may be many other stores with much more unique pieces but the price difference was too hard to swallow; no choice lah first home so budget a bit lah counselled ourselves that work a few more years than "upgrade" furniture, anyway furniture relatively easier to replace haha Our views on some of the stores we visited Journey East: Love the furniture here but too pricey for us.Do visit if you are into industrial-chic theme and willing to go "all in". The service was excellent; super passionate manager walked us thru the store, giving us ideas and suggestions on furniture pairing (also immediately offered ID discount). when I have enough $$$ next time... Mountain Teak: Another store with great industrial style furniture, price also equally nice haha..though my ID felt that this store was overpriced, given the quality. Commune: Classic, pretty but "safe" designs.Service non-existent, we were basically ignored all the times we visited. Ethnicraft: Cool, wood furniture. Didnt really suit our theme but nice service Hommage Lifestyle: Another place with great service, manager patiently explained the different range of furniture available. Must visit if you like Japanese style pieces. Prices are quite ok for certain brands. Galanga Living: very very cool shop but a tad too messy, didnt quite know how to start looking haha nice place to find statement pieces like metal file cabinets. Castlery: Reasonably priced, chic pieces. Service was ok given how busy the place was when we visited What we bought Dining table + bench, cant see clearly from the picture but top is made of stone. Husband fell in love at first sight (yes im blogging from his account haha) so had to get it, plus half price as compared to what we previously shortlisted! L-shaped sofa, the promotional price came with an additional set of fabric in different color. And dining chairs Also bought a bed frame but cant find the picture online lol
  4. yah we are going to hack away a portion of the adjoining room's wall so that both rooms are connected but still leave enough space to mount tv on the wall. (Sorry my explanation sucks!) Yah we were thinking of removing the wall but in the end still prefer have some partition for the yard Btw your t-blog is awesome! started my taobao shopping after reading it!
  5. haha I think its matt but honestly we didnt look closely enough. Will make it a point to go see when we drop by and update you Yah I know! Must resist the urge not to go down everyday. Luckily now no lights up so cant visit at nights lol
  6. I really like your black square lights! So cool and really goes well with your theme
  7. WIW area Kitchen. This will be slightly different as we made some changes since decided to remove the service yard windows + door.
  8. Hi Jason, congrats on your impending key collection! you may wish to surf around the t-blogs to get more info.. There's a wealth info that you can find here. Generally, a contractor wouldn't give you any visual on the outcomes as they are usually low cost, no frills option. (Usually... Some might be so experience they can provide you with visuals) If you would like a more complete service including advice on furniture and layout, providing you with visuals, a interior designer may be more suitable. However that would also usually cost more. Hope this helps Good luck!!
  9. Decided to change the door arm of our main door because the HDB provided one doesnt allow the door to be "locked" in place when opened. Engaged Kelvin from UniArm after seeing recommendations by a few T-bloggers on Renotalk and I must say his service is really excellent! Once again, so thankful for this forum man. When he came down to install the door arm, he noted that wall wasnt leveled, picture doesnt really show but basically there is a gap between the arm and the wall zzzz. Honestly, it was not that big of a deal but Kelvin insisted on coming back to seal up the gap (at no extra charge too!) And tadaaa..all nice and neat now. Super impressed by his service, he even took pictures and videos to send to us after he was done (we were at work then) and insisted that we pay him only after we go down personally to see.
  10. Renovation has started! First thing to be done is the electrical works, exposed black tracks to complement the industrial theme. Toilet bows, vanity also removed to prepare for overlaying, amused to see our toilet bowl sitting in the bomb shelter Service yards door removed (the blks are so near I can see exactly what clothes the neighbors are washing ) Anddd cement slabs, any guesses as to what they are going to be?
  11. Hi Daintyflair, here you go! Just to highlight that I just placed the orders and havent received them yet so cant comment on quality yet. Light: http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?id=42004705460&spm=2014.12193480.0.0 Cart: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=38832343257&spm=2014.12193480.0.0 Haha Freakerz, yah tell me about it. I studied chinese in school but all "give back" already. If mine also 80% of what was depicted, I think i will be quite happy *fingers-crossed*
  12. Cutting the post because apparently I cant post that many pictures in a single post. Really cool toilet roll holder, now trying to find other toilet accessories to match but not having much luck These will be for our mini "bar" in the living room, adore the bar cart Coffee table. Saw this selling on an SG website and really liked the design but wasnt in the dimensions we wanted, taobao to the rescue! Seller was able to customize one for us. Btw for those into industrial style furnishing, just search 'loft' on t-mall. Guaranteed hours of lusting over the pretty furniture on your computer.
  13. Second round of Taobao shopping! More lights! So many pretty lights on Taobao and all at a fraction of Singapore's prices. Couldnt resist For our bathrooms Study table maybe? So cute just buy first lah! For the spare (empty room) lol
  14. Alright first round of purchases on Taobao done! Taobao shopping is addictive! Fingers crossed everything arrives in good condition. For the dining room Kitchen Sink Strip lights for the bathroom And of course a whole bunch of tracklights + tracks
  15. haha yes we did hear about the extension but by then we already fallen in love with our chosen tiles so decided to go with that option
  16. Tile hunting! We had wanted cement screed flooring to complete the industrial look but heard that HDB was only going to allow pre-packed cement to be used (which results in really ugly patchy floor, ID showed us a sample) + wasnt sure how I would feel about cracks in the cement in future. Decided on cement-lookalike tiles instead. Super noob, never knew that there were so many types of tiles until we went down to Hafary. And the "cement" tiles even come with texture to mimic the look and feel of cement, wow. It is so easy to get distracted at Hafary so come down only when you already have something in mind so that it is easier to focus on narrowing down your choices. Short listed these 5 tiles and in the end we went with the 4th one (from left) mainly because it comes in 60x60. All the above are $3 psf. Amused by the fancy names these tiles have. Ours is the firenze Stopped by Crate & Barrel today and saw a dining table that I thought was really pretty too. Great, now I have shortlisted 5 different tables
  17. Made our first big purchase over the weekend! Popped down to Expo to "sleep" on several mattresses, ended up getting one from Magic Koil. Was within our budget and great service from the sales promoter (Susan). Btw, anyone has reviews on magicseal - the window mesh that keeps away insects ? Am paranoid about bugs esp lizards and am super tempted to get those installed.
  18. Hi bro, Appreciate if you could email me your catalogue & price too at edwinlowkf@gmail.com Thanks!
  19. I shall check out Castlery! Yes I think we may end up getting a study table from TB too Thanks yes after looking at the tables again, I am leaning towards 3 because its more classy and seems like something I wont get sick of looking at haha
  20. Some pictures of the place after key collection. As we opted out of flooring and doors, there werent much stuff to inspect. Given the 'good to go' by our ID so renovation should be starting soon! Living room (admiring the view while it lasts) Toilet, thankfully we quite liked the toilet tiles provided by HDB but argh the mosaic tiles. Any creative ideas to work around this other than overlaying? Another picture, this time with the full mosaic wall Kitchen + service yard. once again quite happy with the grey tiles HDB provided for the kitchen
  21. Yes I know right! Hence the temptation to get some stuff from Taobao instead hee Thanks Finkfad
