  1. thanks for your compliment MsBunny. Renotalk itself has huge amount of information and other house owners' reno experience. you just need more time to go through reading and learning from it. Most of us are 1st time house owner and of course we would like to build our own cosy little nest. I still have much to learn from you all. You have also shared vastly on your own reno experience and we can see your home forming nicely too! Thanks for the sharing rainbow! Nice design for reference on actual 2-room units.
  2. Varying! Time to update your reno progress! MsBunny has updated her blog so is your turn!
  3. Look at this 2-room flat, 1 of the picture will show the cabinet in full. This is very similar to my unit's layout. The cabinet is full height. http://thecarpenters.com.sg/projects/blk-372-jurong-east-st-32-2rm/
  4. HDB sliding door I took from the HDB Hub show flat. The electrical cabinet is not removable. It is quite narrow actually. let me try to attach the image here For tiles, if you hack the tiles, you need to do the water proofing again which I understand is very troublesome. Alternative is to over lay.
  5. Hi ryanyth! welcome! You can start talking to ID but some may not entertain you. I have some contractors telling me to look for them after I have gotten the key as they prefer on site measurement. Yours seems like a 37m2 unit with the sliding door? So far all the other 47m2 are all walls. For your question on what is the thingy beside the household shelter. It is actually a cabinet to house all your electrical and cable switches. You can refer to a link I posted in page 5 on 2Roomer's question of using that as a shoe cabinet. For your toilet, the design is good for a L-shaped shower screen, exactly what I wanted... -_- If you want to place a bathtub, you need to reposition the basin at the entrance? Then u need to change a sliding door maybe. MS Paint, you can click resize to reduce the size.
  6. wah! must be fashionable boy! Actually if you want to hack the wall and dont mind a small living room, u can include a walk in wardrobe. depends on ur Q no. shd be within the next few weeks. good luck to ur selection! wow! 2020! another 5 yrs to go leh! so fast starts looking around liao! good to have so much time to research but note that 5 yrs down the road, the designs and technology would have changed alot, esp the technology.
  7. LOL, paiseh, welcome rainbow boy btw, nice design on the hidden tables & benches! Since you are boy, do you need such a big closet?
  8. Welcome Rainbow1979 & BunniBoi, another bunny! Is Rainbow a gal and Bunni a boy? If so, finally we got a boy here. Welcome to the growing 2-roomer family! Rainbow, I saw similar a proposal in the HWZ thread pointed out by kyooko previously where the consideration is to hack the bedroom wall and create a wall to have a bigger bedroom but reducing the size of the living room. Kyooko probably can share some info on the bathtub as she is considering 1 while I would never take up 1. I like your kitchen layout, easy to place the appliances and cabinets. My personal opinion hor, personally I dont like to showcase my bedroom to visitors although I do have plan to seal up the bathroom - kitchen wall so if there is any visitor, they have to go to the bathroom via my bedroom. but in general, I dont like the idea of hosting my guests with my bed in sight. Anyway, going back to your design, do you want to consider the following: L-shaped wardrobe so that you have enough space yet can place your bed against the wall. Not sure if I remember correctly, saw somewhere that in fengshui (if you believe), it is better if your bed is against a wallYou can move your desk to the wall behind the display tableYour dining area blocks the walkway from living room to bedroom. You might like to consider a squarish table that is against the wall and can sits 3 pax instead of 4.The "living room" space seems under utilised.Just some personal opinion for your reference. Bunniboy, probably 2Roomer can share some info about hidden bed with you. Btw, when are you getting your bto?
  9. kyooko, this might interest you. http://xpc.sg/learn/
  10. How long does HDB takes to hand out keys from the date Main Con handover to HDB? Anyone know?
  11. Ladies, for flip table, do keep in mind that the leg support is required if not you cannot put heavy stuff. the cabinet, you may like to refer to this post and take a look at the depth of the cabinet http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/71341-theoverusewoodwhiteblack-theme-home/?p=899974 Personally i think that is too narrow for shoes.
  12. Hi all I have updated the 1st post to keep track of our growing community for easier reference Also copied MsBunny's reno sequence for easier reference. Any thing else u all like me to copied into the 1st post for future reference?
  13. sharing some info for those still waiting for keys Defects checklist http://zhuangjia.com.sg/detailed-defect-checking/ Home owner blog who shared the thinking process, consideration why certain decisions are made and review on the purchased: http://renovation-greencoal.blogspot.sg/ Space savings ideas http://www.renotalk.com/read/17-space-saving-ideas-for-your-home Ground Facts: Guide to Choosing the Right Flooringhttp://www.cromly.com/stories/article/ground-facts-guide-to-choosing-the-right-flooring
  14. I went ikea about a month back and walk until leg aching... lol. Wanted to get shoe cabinet but didnt find anything suitable. at the end ordered from fortytwo.com do not intend to get a hood cos little cooking, i predict. :x Kyooko, you still have a long wait leh, dont get any electronic items so fast. their price drop fast so you will be able to get a better deal by the time you really need it.
  15. u know the weight of a queen size mattress. how r u going to move your mattress around if you need to access the storage right beneath?
  16. MsBunny, roughly how much for your platform bed? I like the platform bed with storage very much, cos due to our small space, the way to maximise is looking at vertical instead of horizontal... yet worried about: dust in between and later getting old got bad knees will have difficulty getting up from bed... lol
  17. ladies, care to share your ID / contractor so that we can avoid them? TIA.
  18. Thanks Ferlicia for the reply. I do have contractor who is willing to quote on floor plan more of a draft quote and requested to view on site and measurement to finalised the quote. Anyway, glad to hear that they are willing to provide FOC internal colour pvc depends on situation.
  19. eh... ladies (I assume all regular here are ladies?) pls dont get me wrong, I have never mentioned that Ikea stuff dont last as I have bought some cabinets before and I think they do last. Just that I dont think Ikea stuff are that cheap... And the reason why I go for custom made carpentry is to maximise the vertical space (full height cabinets). And other than flooring, I dont have false ceiling, overlaying of tiles, tv featured wall. I am going for simple and practical set up. For online shopping, I think the savings must be minimum 50% or it is not worth taking the risk. buying it from a known source (from other bloggers) and doing extensive research can reduce the risk I think.
  20. Actually I think for my reno, the bulk of my spending, other than flooring, is on carpentry... For furniture, is Ikea that cheap? I recently bought shoe cabinet for my parents on fortytwo website and seems quite ok quality, free delivery above $200 and wide variety. I may venture into taobao or amazon to save cost too.
