  1. @Lazyfatcat007 - yeah it's terribly disappointing because these issues cannot be resolved that easily, unlike something faulty which I can just throw out... I suspect they are freelance painters... I will be touching up on some paintwork tomorrow - shall remember to take a photo of the patched up door frame for you to have a look!
  2. Here's a peek at the small simple bathroom - notice the ugly pipes (one to the right, another to the left which wasn't captured).
  3. Good luck with everything, @Catt! Imagine relaxing in your own pad after all the hard work and pain! Must go to a reputable shop and make sure you are not getting any inferior quality fittings. I recently looked in my cabinets and to my horror, noticed the screws had already rusted. Some of the hinges were also beginning to rust. Made the carpenter change them.
  4. The door is customised to the size of the frame. You can certainly get a new door made to measure, so don't worry!
  5. Your living area is incredibly spacious! Time to put in a huge sofa to lounge in... I so adore the kitchen and the lighting looks great there! Lovely grey door. You must have devoted a **** lot of energy and time to oversee all the little things. Worth it though. Are you changing the lockset for the main door? Do check out the shop at New World Centre if you haven't done any shopping yet.
  6. Sanded the surface along the door frame, removed the metal plate from the door jamb and put in wood filler (can be purchased form any hardware store). Apply generously! Let it dry overnight... Sand the area down and if necessary, reapply. Otherwise, good to repaint! I do not have a photo of the finished product as it is not looking very professional, but it is way better than having 2 pieces of metal plates at the door jamb!
  7. The journey isn't over as I have spent the last few weeks: -buying sandpaper and paint brushes -painting over strange random marks on the wall, palm prints -scrubbing out paint spots left by painters -cleaning paint marks along the skirting (because did not use masking tape...) -sanding down the doors from bad paint job -cleaning glue stains off the tiles with thinner -arranging with Caesarstone to patch a ding in my countertop as the carpenter dropped a tool. Long story - contractor says the material very durable one. Carpenter did not bother to protect the surface, climbed on top with his gross feet, and proceeded to drop a tool. Did not witness this or I would have burst a vessel... The fact is a ding appeared after carpenter left (and it was perfect before). Of course the carpenter denied... Why did I not get the contractor to bring in the painters to rectify all that? Oh, they did. They came. But each time they arrived to do a job, they would f*** something up. Once, the painter painted one wall with a lighter tone paint and he could not even tell. Another time, he removed ALL my tape left on the floor to mark out the chips on the floor tiles. Decided that I should try and resolve these myself instead of depending on non professional painters. I have no idea why painting can be so difficult. Yes, it is tedious and back breaking. But it can be done well without much effort - just protect the flooring and everything else that should NOT be painted! Ok, rant over.
  8. Happy with how the door and gate turned out. Not done through contractor.
  9. workers stained the tiles with some industrial strength glue - and by the time contractor got them to clean it up, it became mission impossible. i was also on my knees rubbing the glue out... look at what the smart worker did. Since cannot close properly, just put TWO metal plates lor. IKR.
  10. They only do metalworks. (I also buay tahan my door frame). for the door frames, i was advised to get sandpaper and wood filler. It's quite easy: sand, apply wood filler, let it dry, sand, paint! after i nagged contractor for the terrible work on the door frames and painting, he said it's because the door frames are old (i retained them!). I asked why the painting was so slip-shod as you can feel the roughness on the frames. He then said because had to pay extra for sanding down (which was NOT communicated to me earlier). Of course I was fuming. Too late already...
  11. I changed painters 4x. Nightmare. I couldn't take it anymore, and sanded the doors myself with fine sandpaper... Painted the edges of the door frames.. Crawled on the floor with a rag and armed with thinner to clean off paint spots. So much that my right index finger lost its whorls for a few days... I have some plastering to do this weekend *cries*
  12. Steeldios - highly recommended for the good workmanship! I will attach a picture shortly! Do you need the contact?
  13. Reading this post really reminds me of my own renovation as the problems are too similar! Contractor/workers just say old house is like that one.. What to do... Wall not even, door frames surely rough after painting, etc. Anything, they just say the house is old. Like that lo. *roll eyes* My instant water heater also has very poor water pressure. Checked with town council, and they sent a plumber who verified that my water pressure is ok. It is probably the heater (no pump) or the hand shower. I'm probably going to get a separate hand shower to test if it works... You can get the town council to check the valve outside your flat. You don't have to be home for that.
  14. I must add that if anyone is looking for cabinet handles, do drop by Inter-0riental at New World Centre. Most excellent service. Their range of handles/knobs is really impressive!
  15. Got my main door from Y0ngtat - turned out well! There's only 1.5mm gap between the base of the door and the floor - keeping my fingers crossed that no pests can squeeze in!
  16. My paint colours all turned out a little lighter than expected because I was quite scared the small place would end up looking too gloomy. The colours usually turn out darker for larger areas, as compared to the samples in the paint catalogs. But no worries, can always repaint if you really don't like it. It's not too much effort! (at least no need to paint the ceiling...) I love how your bathroom is turning out! Would suggest having a ventilator fan there. I would hate for mould to hide underneath those gorgeous granite shelves!
  17. How the air con trunking is run in the master bedroom. There will be some obstruction where the bed is, but mostly hidden from view! Kitchen, after all the frantic moments....
  18. Really turning out so well. Loving it! @JohnJohn when are you moving in?
  19. @Catt yes, supervise with HD vision eyes! i'm regretting not being able to be there all the time to keep an eye, and then discovering little things a little late. funnily, my bathroom door arrived today and it looks brownish grey rather than grey! trying to get things resolved... all the best for your reno works!
  20. @Catt I think your kitchen wall is going to turn out quite cool with the 3D tiles. Any more photos this week?
  21. Loving my fan from Phylux What the tiny bathroom is slowing transforming into:
  22. @ashes02 all the best - look forward to a brand new beginning When will renovation start?
  23. I've been running around like a headless chicken the past 2 months... even gone to god-forsaken places... Here's my list: Furniture: -Commune (much better service at Millenia Walk than Defu Lane) -Space -Grafunkt -Harvey Norman -Teak & Mahogany -Lush -Comfort -King Living -Second Charm -Castlery -Lorgan's -Picket and Rail Sanitary stuff: -Teck Joo -Hosin -Adamas Lightings: -Chan Huat (highly recommended) -Megaman -Lights Evolution -BL -Citilights -lightings.com.sg (awful service) Also walked along Balestier road for lightings but not much caught my eye... I must that that although it is a fun process, it is soooo bloody exhausting!
