Final - Wet kitchen & yard As promised, here are more pics of the kitchen. Continuing on from the main kitchen area with the island taking up the bulk of the space, it leads on to the “wet kitchen” - basically the “original” kitchen area (based on the flat’s initial layout). On the left, big fridge, big sink and laundry area. On the right, lots more storage options~ Shallow tall cabinets house all my baking + laundry essentials, and I just love the little walnut open shelving that’s perfect for displaying little knick-knacks. A peek into the walk-in pantry... glass jars and chalkboard labels were all great finds from tb:D Display shelving for all my recipe books...or is there a hidden function? (hint: if the hinges don’t give it away, surely the wooden signage does!) Moving on to the yard/balcony area This from when the carpet grass was first installed. Love the contrast of the cabinet doors with the grass~ Utility cabinets with customised storage for tools, mop and broom etc. Including an electric outlet and mount for the dyson:D Matching French doors to the kitchen and living/dining area Little herb garden in the corner that is thankfully still (somewhat) thriving after a couple of weeks:D

Final - Mudroom Last bits of hardware (coat hooks and drawer pulls) have been installed, so I finally have proper pics of the mudroom to share(: So when our carpenter F first raised the idea of having a mudroom, I was somewhat sceptical cos - it’s not as if we have muddy boots to dust off or winter coats to hang up here in sunny Singapore. I did like the idea and the look though, so when the hubs came up with the brilliant idea of building shoe storage right into the mudroom, I was completely sold. Yep and the coat hooks double up as cabinet door handles~ From the outset, we wanted to demarcate the mudroom as a separate area kinda like an entrance foyer, hence the grey, slightly more outdoorish tiles. Spent literally months searching for the perfect baskets as well, and I’m pretty glad with what the internet managed to give us:D They're perfect for keeping stuff like shoe bags, sports equipment etc. Ooh and the little trapdoor in the bottom houses the ironing board - every inch of space is precious and must be put to good use! CC’s workmanship in the cornices and baseboard are really just, wow. One last view~ Ooh and the mirror/mini landing area right next to the front door was a last minute find off carousell, so pleased with how well it goes with everything and how perfectly it fits in the space. In fact it really turned out to be a happy surprise how the colours all seem to match just so - the rafter, ceiling fan, banister, landing area - it's really almost as if they were all cut from the same tree.

@Ando Tadao yep it's true that laminate is easier to maintain, but for us I guess the look and feel trumped all! @Anthony Ong so sorry, have not gotten around to photographing the rest of the house. we're also still waiting to install the last bits of hardware in the mudroom, but will post pics once that's done. @Irene Ling thank you! Hi! The beading is not laminate, its wood veneer (ash) on solid ply. The v grooves are machined using a router.

Final - Kitchen (I) Time flies...can’t quite believe it but we’ve been living here for almost a month already. Most of our free time has been spent moving/unpacking/cleaning etc. And before I knew it, the house is already starting to look like we’ve lived here for years ie clutter is building up everywhere XD Managed to get the kitchen in a reasonably tidy state tho so, just gonna spam with lotsa pics! It’s kinda scary how fast the countertop fills up with stuff... Lots lots of storage for all sorts of baking trays and pans...love how convenient it is to retrieve and store things now. Didnt give much thought to the corner cabinets initially, but I’m pleasantly surprised at how deeeep they are (and how much junk can fit in heheh) Pull-out condiment + utensil towers, again really love the convenience and not having to root around in a drawer full of odds and ends. Mixture of different types of storage for pots and pans Walk-in pantry door looking deceptively small from the outside... ...but yes you can really walk in!:D Still in the process of sorting out the mess while more jars get shipped over hehe. And of course, possibly my favourite part of the kitchen (it’s a toss up between this and the hood haha) - the island (: Customised with storage for utensils... plates bowls etc... and most often-used appliances (complete with powerpoints in the side so they can be used right there on the island)! View from the outside, with our custom whitewashed pine barn doors (: Bonus pic one of my first few bakes in the new oven for the new hubs bday. Shall continue with the “wet” kitchen and the rest of the house hopefully soon!

T-2 to move-in day So much has progressed in the past week or so, but have just been tooo busy to blog what with wedding preparations (yes I’ll be getting married in less than 12 hours time!). If all goes well, we’ll also be moving in this Sunday (and spend Christmas in our new home!) (: Really thankful for how everything fell into place in the end, at some point we weren’t sure whether we’d be able to move in after our wedding, but now everything is pretty much in place. Full update soon I hope, but for now here’s a couple of pics. Mudroom/stairs all done (just waiting for a couple more handles for mudroom to arrive from tb hehe). Kitchen! Lights and tap were the last to go in and I love effect the copper accents have with all the white-and-wood. Mattress came on Thursday so it’s pretty much all ready for us to spend the night here in 2 days time!

I actually ordered 1 day after they stopped this service, so I managed to get them to waive the shipping for me:D But now that Prime will be available in SG hopefully it’ll be even easier to ship stuff!

Carpentry - rafters and more kitchen Spotted these looong blocks of wood on my landing and then in the living room a couple of days back...but now they’re all up where they belong, on the ceiling! View from both ends of the kitchen: View from mudroom and living room: Lights are (mostly) up in conjunction with the rafters as well. I rmb when S first conceived of this - “I think I have a solution to mount the ceiling lights without trunking, without false ceiling”. My response: Looking at the rafters today though, I think this is really one of the more genius ideas in this whole process (inspired in part by the rafters proudly on display in CC’s shop as well!) They make the whole place feel that much more like the country farmhouse of my dreams, while at the same time serving to house all the downlights and removing the need for unsightly trunking. Cabinet doors and cornices are all up as well, and the range was installed some time last week. I think this might be my favourite view of the whole house((: Although now that the island is in (this pic was from a few days back), I realise I’ll never get this full view of the cabinets + range again. So I’m glad for all the work-in-progress shots! Pantry area: Wet kitchen area: Totally digging the apron-front fireclay sink as well~ (or as F likes to call it, the kopitiam sink hehehe). Finally, yep the island is in! Not gonna post pics yet tho cos the top is all covered up in cardboard for now. But here are some sneak pics from the underside. So in love with the corbels and the gorgeous grain in the oak and ash 2nd pic is figuring out the location of powerpoints hehe. Was looking through pics from early on in the reno, feels like we’ve really come such a long way(: Not quite there yet but the end is in sight so I’ll call this a “before-and-almost-after” pic:

@Anthony Ong @bykaraanne Thanks! I can’t wait to see it too:D @Bumblebee17 cool, love mudrooms! Yup we are going with ezyturf for the yard, but it’ll only be done in 2 weeks’ time. I guess it’ll make your mudroom really look like a proper entrance area where guests can kick off their shoes and dust off the mud~

Carpentry - Kitchen Kitchen carpentry carcasses are mostly up, and what a beauty all that alpine ash is <3 Starting from the right, tall unit which will house a built-in oven, standalone microwave and DB box as well. Bottom compartment contains customised storage for baking trays. Deep drawers to the left, with more customised baking tray storage. The stack of flat panels will slide into the niches to maximise space for storing trays vertically. No more squatting in front of cabinets and lifting up stacks of trays to get to that biggest tray right at the bottom of the pile At the same time, the removable panels means that I retain the option of using these as regular drawers. Pull-out shelves for kitchen appliances, again no more squatting in front of cabinets and having to reach deep inside for that seldom-used appliance stored right at the back. More storage flanking the range (which will sit in the space currently occupied by that carton) - pull-out shelves below for pots and pans, drawers on top. Customised slim units in between, right side one is for sauces/condiments etc while the left side one will house utensil canisters. Moving on to the left, walk-in pantry! 2 huge walls of shelving^^ Also perfect as a time-out corner for naughty kids next time hahaha. More floor-to-ceiling shelving. Will mostly be covered up by doors, except the part with the walnut shelves which will be an open display unit. Love love the contrast of the walnut and the beaded detailing behind <3 Can't wait for all the doors to go up! Just like the drawers here, everything will be shaker-style with v-groove beading. Top-run cabinets have yet to be installed too, as well as the sink cabinetry. And of course, can't wait most of all to see the island go in!

Carpentry - bed & mudroom It’s been almost 2 months since my last update, and finally there is stuff to update on! The past 1+ month has been quiet as all the work has been going on at CC’s factory. Some delays due to our taking time to make decisions and finalise our plans as well. But yes installation of carpentry finally began this past Wednesday, will let the pics do more of the talking (: This was the sketch-up carpenter F did for our mbr platform bed, including trapdoor storage all around the sides of the bed, side tables on each side of the bed, and, in keeping with my great love for the rustic farmhouse look, a solid walnut headboard inspired by this: As the vinyl we chose for our flooring is a light oak colour, we decided to go with walnut for the bed, and it’s a decision I definitely don’t regret. Here’s the progress so far: Close-up of the side table - really love the rich grain, and so dark and handsome <3 no laminates here, all solid walnut! Just left the last 2 compartments to be installed, and then the trapdoors after that. Mudroom! I’ve posted this pic somewhere in an earlier entry, but just for comparison - here’s the sketch-up fiancé S did of the mudroom: And here’s the current progress! Getting there:p slight mistake as the seats were done in ash rather than pine (supposed to be brown as above), but F has promised to fix this. Can’t wait to see how everything looks when the doors go up and the beaded panel (below the window) goes on. Still hunting for baskets of just the right size/colour/design as well. Close up of the custom shoe shelves - the two on each side are pull-out drawers (w heavy-duty runners!) while the one in the middle will have a set of double doors. Hopefully it’ll be enough storage space:D Kitchen carpentry is currently in progress too, will update on that next when I have the time!

Hello! No updates recently cos our carpentry is all still in the midst of being built and awaiting installation... our carpenter did mention though that they'll start shifting some of the carcasses in soon, looking forward to share when things start happening!

The wait Past couple of weeks have been pretty quiet, with wetworks mostly done. Probably the main thing which took place was shower screens for the bathrooms - starting to look more and more like real bathrooms now! One of my regrets is not doing up the mbr shower wall (just the side with the shower and niche) in a different tile, I think a darker wood tile would've looked nice. Ohwells, maybe next time:D But that aside, I'm very satisfied with the tiling, especially the trim around the window and the different direction floor tiles in the shower stall...it's cool how even with just 1 type of tile, there are so many ways to still create contrast and interest. Kudos to S for cracking his brain over all these lil details(: And now we're just patiently waiting for F and his team to do their magic and fill our home with expertly-crafted bits of wood(: I've come to realise that our "country style" home actually brings together a mish-mash of related-yet-different themes. While the kitchen is a blend of farmhouse + cottage styles (which I used to think were same same but nope, not quite!), the living/dining room is towards the craftsman or maybe transitional style... and then the MBR is probably closer to a log cabin kinda feel. It's no wonder we had such trouble finding an ID who understood what we wanted haha...I don't think I myself properly understood what I wanted at the start, but I have learnt so much along the way, and not just in terms of design styles. In the end, I just hope it won't look too chapalang and that it'll really reflect that perfect blend of both S' and my styles, tastes and preferences (: Anyway, I digress...just wanted to post some of the tantalising pics from F of what's been going on in their factory. Just so eager to see everything go up in our house...! Tall dark and oh-so-handsome rafters^^ Shaker-style kitchen cabinet door with v-grooves... oh that beading, oh that grainnn I never imagined that I'd feel so strongly about random lines on bits of wood lol, but well there you go. More kitchen cabinet doors behind (or maybe pantry... I'm not sure), part of a barn door in front with that perfect white-washed look^^

Nope no TV, we'll just be having a small one in MBR. We plan for guests to gather around the dining table/island instead or even the mudroom area. The wall opposite the couch would be good for a tv though if you intend to have one (we're using that space for a piano and display hutch instead).

This is the layout of our living room (area from stairs onwards) that we intend to go with. There's not that much room to play around with and we're only planning to have a 2-seater couch (and no tv). I think it'd depend on how big your dining table is also...ours is 2 x 1m, this leaves us with a gap of around 75-80cm from the table to the window. In your case the bench may actually save a bit of space since you don't need to cater for walking space behind it (unlike regular chairs). But bear in mind that the actual "living area" will be smaller than usual. Hope this helps!

More lighting With most of the wetworks etc done, we are just (patiently) waiting for carpentry installation to start. In the meanwhile, I'm also (patiently) awaiting the arrival of all my taobao packages haha. Lost count of how many shipments so far, but just thought I'd share the lighting we've purchased (helps me keep track as well).
