  1. "Good" is relative to the person sleeping on the bed. For me and my fiancee, we tried the 3 big S and Serta has a model that we both like. Think you have to really go lie on all the beds. Initially we were pai seh to lie but then we realised that only by really trying it out can we make an informed decision. So ended up going to all the showroom to try.
  2. Think you should be happy your carpentry is finally taking shape... I noticed you didnt change your pipes and still using HDB PVC ones... My ID was supposed to give me copper pipes (as stated in quote) but in the end they installed stainless steel ones. Anyone knows which one is more exp?
  3. My toilet has a smaller round one without the square part. That one cant be lifted up.
  4. EXACTLY! They designed so many beams into the rooms that the aircon trunking cannot go thru top of the wall nor the top of door. The only passable areas are the middle of the rooms... So ugly... You have any pics to show of ur trunking? I'm quite convinced to make the corner console to cover them already... Will meet ID to discuss tmr. More $$$ wasted
  5. The aircon piping layout has been completed. I got my Mitsubishi Starmex system 3 aircon as a package so the installer is a contractor of ideal house. The material they used is 1/2 inch thick armaflex insulation and grade 23 copper. I paid $150 to upgrade the insulation from 3/8" to 1/2" cos I want to ensure that the pipes will not condense water and spoil my furniture. Thus all my trunking are the bigger 4" kinds, ugly but no choice To me, aircon has to be well installed cos it wont be easy to replace in the future. Just went to check on the aircon contractor and how the trunking layout is going... Found that for my flat there are too many beams and it is difficult to minimise the trunking Found that the trunkings in the MBR are quite an eyesore especially the one at the corner. The straight part is still ok since I can cover it with curtain and it will be blocked by the bed anyway. But i've explored the alternatives with the aircon guy and there's really no other way to run the trunking in the MBR. I am so annoyed by that trunking in the corner that I'm considering asking my ID to custom make a corner TV console just to cover it up MBR view 1 MBR view 2 The plan was to concentrate most of the trunking in the guestroom instead of the MBR (cos I'm not sleeping in the guestroom so ok ). Well this was achieved and the guestroom has more trunking and spared the MBR of a lot more unsightly plastics I guess they should look better after the touch ups and painting... Also, the wardrobe here will cover a portion of the trunking. I shall go down over the weekend to check on how well they have touched up. When I left the trunking were still not completed. Guestroom view 1 Guestroom view 2 - Still messy. The workers should complete touch up by tmr. Will go down to check. Finally, the study room is the luckiest room. Only one small piece of trunking. I think HDB should design their flats such that the aircon ledge is at the furthest room so the MBR wont have so much trunking. Study room Word of advise: Plan your trunking carefully. If you want small trunking, use 3/8" insulation but there is a higher risk of condensation. So its a tradeoff that have to be carefully considered.
  6. Max told me the tilers say the SS ones may dislodge in the future cos the cement cannot hold on to it so well. But I managed to find a kind of SS floortrap with a kind of extension at each corner. The hardware shop guy told me its made specially for the cement to better hold on to the whole piece. So I got those instead of the normal ones. Normal ones cost about $10. The ones with protrusions cost $12. I also manage to find the SS replacements for the smaller round covers in the toilet. Those are $3 each.
  7. I'm planning to get Serta. Prefer it over simmons and sealy after trying them all... I think all matteresses should have some discount in the upcoming GSS so be patient!
  8. Good luck man... Seems difficult to find at such a price. You plan to hack kitchen and toilet also? Think $40k more realistic for such a large amt of work. But maybe if yours is 3rm may be possilbe. Hoe big's ur flat? I did a bit less carpentry already almost $40k liao... Can see my blog for details...
  9. The ugly drainage in the kitchen I complaint about was also replaced with a L-shaped tile. Now it look so much better right? I also went to buy 3 stainless steel floor traps to replace all the plastic floor traps in the toilet Will need the tilers to fixed them up for me. BEFORE AFTER
  10. Today my ID's aircon contractor came to do up the trunking so I went down and discussed with him how my trunking should be run. Its not easy coming up with a good solution! At the same time I took some photos while I was there. My ventilation fan was fixed on tuesday but I didnt see it clearly till today. The windows were done by a contractor I found myself but my ID got his men to hack the surrounding tiles and retile them after the installation The window guy actually said he may not damage the tiles but my ID insisted on hacking the surrounding tiles away cos he say he wanted the window installed properly and nicely. The workmanship seem good enough. No complaints from me on Central Aluminium The fan they gave was KDK 20WUD which is the biggest in the KDK window mount series and can suck more air. Casement window + fan cost $214 per set. MBR toilet Common toilet Close up of fan View from outside - Seems like there is a cover for the fan. Need to figure out how it works. KDK 20WUD
  11. I think its very cheap... In fact, a bit too cheap to be true. Really a good price considering you are hacking off all the toilet tiles, doing so much carpentry, changing all the doors, so many glass doors/panels, granite top and inverter aircon. And the electrical is included also! Which ID firm is this? Did u check out their workmanship and reputation?
  12. I also tempted by ikea shelves. The billy series look (notice I only say "look" ) good. I cant find similiar corner units elsewhere. Besides custom making, anywhere else where we can find good bookshelves? Kajua, how much did they charge for the book shelve and how big is it?
  13. I think google sketchup is a nice tool to use also. Its 3D so can play around with more stuff...
  14. KDK design not really nice... Look like those primary school classrooms lei... I ended choosing between Fanco and Crestar. The fanco one I wanted is out of stock almost everywhere so in the end got a crestar 54" + regulator. Think it cost me $220.
  15. Interesting... I didnt know u can do that... After the first appt, we just waited and waited and waited for the key collection
  16. U mean u dont have keys and HDB officer brought u to see ur flat? Can return if not happy with it??
  17. I got mine from Royal Fanco in Jalan Besar. There're many sops there selling fans...
  18. I think many of us know that already. Choo Chiang Marketing sells legrand switches cheap. Either your ID is trying to chop u or the $38 incl installation? Even with installation, $38 is super ex! My ID charges $15 incl install and I'm still not getting from him.
  19. Flyersummer: Is your window made of wire-backed glass or clear one?
  20. My toilet ventilation fan was installed today and my ID supervised the installation. He asked me to go down and take a look after work cos he felt that the top hung window is a bit stiff when opening and he held back payment to Central Aluminium in case I want them to rectify anything So I went down just now armed with a torch light and groping in the dark. I found that it wasnt as stiff as I expected and only a little resistance was felt probably due to it being new. So I guess my ID has higher standards than me. I called him up and told him to pay Central as the windows are quite ok to me. I like the fact that the fan they used were the larger KDK model and seems much better than the one I have at my current place. With the top hung window, the toilet looks brighter too. Will take picture the next time I'm at the site. Cant really see much to comment on the workmanship or material of the window. Also, my ID got his own tilers to touch on the areas surrounding the window so hard to tell who's workmanship it is Anyway, anyone has any idea how I can limit the extent that the top hung window can be pushed out? I dont want it to be able to open all the way out. One way I thought of is to get my ID to drill 2 screws into the window track at each side so as to block the rail from going all the way up.

  22. Ok, found the invoice... The shop is Home Themes Pte Ltd #03-15 Furniture Mall. Hope this helps BTW, prices of glass tables are about the same... The difference is for thickness of glass, design and size. I've been hunting for the right piece and seen prices ranging from $280-$600... The one I bought is made with 12mm thick glass.
  23. Nice Very bold and different! But arnt u afraid the house will be dark even during the day?
