  1. hi, I have ordered a 4 ft wash basin cabinet from my ID and indicated basin to be installed on the right side as left side is near the wall which does not have wall tiles. Worker have within a day lay drainage pipe on the left of the cabinet and seal up the pipes with cement. This means the basin would be connected to drainage across the whole cabinet reducing the usable space in the cabinet. However I believe if i ask for the drainage to be rectified this would be major works involving digging up the cemented floor from the wash basin all the way to main drainage point. Another issue is during hacking of the floor in toilet, i noticed the pipe connecting from toilet bowl to air venting pipes were damaged (photo attached). I highlighted that and was told that would either be replaced or mended. mending it doesn't solve the problems as debris have clogged up this pipe and its partially buried in the ground so I suspect it would not be dug up and replaced. I asked for a photo of rectification works done before the ground is cemented for tiling. Again, no update of rectification works and ground is already sealed up when i inspect the toilet. I do not think the pipe has been removed also so I am wondering whether will there be future issues even thought the damaged pipe carries air and not water. I was informed the air vents in the toilet are not required because newer toilets after upgrading has water in the toilet bowl to prevent foul smell... Do you think I should just live with the mistake? ID has been not supervising the works properly and causing many delays and unsatisfactory work.
  2. update: Contacted powergas and they came down to remove the gas pipe but I still have a pipe about 5-6 inches protruding straight out of the ground so that doesn't entirely solve the problem. The only way seems to be covering the pipe up with a cabinet or shelf
  3. Hi, I'm currently renovating the house. Is there any directives from HDB how to do waterproofing test? I was told 2 layers of waterproofing would be done for the toilet but ID is usually not on site to supervise worker and worker also casually told me 1 layer would be applied and no need to flood the toilet for test. ID also say the way to test waterproofing is just fill up toilet and drain off, no need to flood and monitor any drop in water level. I have a very shallow kerb of around 10-15mm between toilet and kitchen. Initially worker proposed level the kitchen and toilet floor and he will slope the floor towards toilet floor trap but was rejected by me. Is 10-15mm acceptable? I didn't want a high kerb but was expecting at least 20mm.
  4. I would like to check whether it is a normal practice for IDs to ask for additional payment after signing contract? My experience was after signing contract, ID forgot to add in an item that cost $2K into the final price and I compromised with payment of half the difference. Then despite a few reminders that power was cut to the unit and asked whether I am required to take any action, ID did not respond and realised reno couldn't start due to no power supply resulting in a 2 weeks delay. Now ID is telling me because I do not have a loading bay below my block I have to pay for additional haulage and debris clearing cost. Basically I am not satisfied with the competence of the ID but in this case where home owners usually have paid 60% of the contract value before work even started, what are our options? What constitute reasonable additional payment to the ID? While we may exercise our rights and make complain to CASE, this would probably result in delays and an unhappy relationship.
  5. Thanks Snoozee for the clarification. I was under the impression the electrician ID appointed was going to shift my terminal point because I was asked where I wanna place my router and he said I can place it anywhere I like such as near where I most likely will use internet such as TV or study area. Then when the quotation come there is an item "O.P" for $250. I asked ID what is that and he say Optical Fibre Point so I assume that's for the terminal point since i indicated my router at a different location from the terminal point. So I guess I need to clarify with ID again what exactly is this O.P. and if i find the way the current trunking for the terminal point is unsightly then I should be asking NLT to relocate it instead.
  6. Hi Everyone, May I seek your recommendation on terminal point of the fibre optic point in a resale flat. Would you reuse it or get the electrician to reinstall a new one? I'm rewiring the switches and power sockets but the existing terminal point location is quite ok. Wondering any disadvantage in keeping the existing one
  7. Hi, I bought a 54 year old 3 room resale unit and ID proposed shifting kitchen cabinet to the opposite wall in the kitchen area so I can align my fridge, kitchen cabinets and washing machine on one side. I realised there is gas pipe at the original location which now becomes my walk way. I find it an eye sore to have a gas pipe protruding from the ground along the walk way and since gas stove is at the opposite wall now, likely the gas pipe would have to be ran across the ceiling to the other side. ID suggested boxing up the pipe which I feel doesn't address the issue because unlikely you can conceal the pipes all the way to the other side. I've considered purposing the pipes as a hanging rack to hang stuff or a painting. My question is can i scrap installation of a gas stove and just remove this gas pipe protruding from the ground completely?
