Is applying fire retardant sprays indoors without professional help safe?

Been fixing up my tiny attic office and got it in my head that maybe I should spray some fire retardant on the exposed wood beams. The DIY cans at the hardware store look simple enough, but now I'm second-guessing myself. Is this stuff safe to use indoors without calling in a pro? I'm kinda worried about breathing fumes or messing something up. Anyone here tried doing it solo? I feel like I'm one YouTube video away from doing something dumb, so any real-world advice would help a ton.

I only felt safe using similar sprays after opening windows, wearing a mask, and testing a spot. If the smell is strong or instructions seem unclear, I pause and reassess.

I’ve sprayed exposed beams before, and the biggest thing is making sure the product is meant for indoor use and won’t leave fumes hanging around. I ended up going with non-toxic fire retardant sprays because they were easy to apply and didn’t change the look of the wood. I still cracked windows, used a respirator, and did light coats so the space didn’t feel like a chemical cloud.
