Dinosaur sculptures for a theme park, is fiberglass the only option?

Recommended Posts

We're developing a new themed area for our family entertainment center and want to install a few life-sized dinosaur figures. The environment is partially outdoors, so they need to withstand weather, but I also want them to look realistic. Everyone keeps recommending fiberglass, but I'm curious if there are other materials that offer better detail or longevity. Also, who do you even contact for something this specific and huge?

Fiberglass is definitely the most common for outdoor theme park installations because it's lightweight, durable, and can be molded with incredible detail. That said, the quality comes down to the craftsmanship. A good studio will use high-density foam for the core and then coat it with multiple layers of fiberglass resin to ensure weather resistance and a lifelike finish. I’ve seen some amazing custom animal and dinosaur displays from https://overscaleart.com/, they specialize in bringing these kinds of big ideas to life, no matter how complex the theme.
