yes it is possible. We did it for our house. They don use spray paint but look like normal paint. A few coats to get the desired effect. So far 1 year on and don't see any chips even around area where the padlock is used.

Depending on what you want to do. "Brushed effect" takes some skill. The gold paint is tricky and takes some effort.

It is essential to let each coat dries well before applying the next coat.

A better quality paint finishing is to use Epoxy paint.

Forget about it. One year later paint will come off, happens to mine. Better to replace new one. My contractor did mentioned to me that WI gate paint is treated, there is a layer of protective coating.
