i used aluminium composite panel as backsplash. You can install immediately onto wall. (not sure if you can just instal metal sheet w/o attached to a backing first)

they charge $1 to cut to the size you want.

Better go for stainless steel as aluminium is not a good choice for use in the cooking area.
