Property Tax Matters

Recommended Posts

2010 was an eventful year for me

1) bought a private property

2) renovated my private property

3) rented out my HDB flat

4) moved into my private property

can i confirm that i need to do the following via the IRAS website?

A) notify lettings / rental changes / changes to the property for #3

B) apply for owner-occupier's tax rates for #4

C) apply vacancy refund for #2

anything else?

Who can apply

Property tax is payable regardless of whether the property is vacant or occupied. However, you may apply for refund of tax on a property which is continuously vacant for at least 30 days or a calendar month and your property is:

• intended for letting and no tenant could be found even though reasonable efforts to obtain a tenant have been made; or

• undergoing repairs (repairs do not include renovations, alterations, improvements and additions) to make it fit for occupation.

If you intentionally leave your property vacant or your property is vacant pending sale, you will not be eligible to apply for vacancy refund.
