Hi, can i check what's the diff between engineering and laminate wood? i was quote by kornotex engineering wood for floor size 480 sq feet at $2555. exibition price. thanks.

the difference is mainly in the way they are constructed.

Engineered Flooring

Top layer>>usually a thin slice of REAL wood, from 1 mm to 5mm, coated with a tough coating

Middle>> usually plywood

Bottom>> may have foam, usually do not have anything

Laminate Floor

Top layer>> usually decorative paper coated with a tough coating.

Middle>> usually some form of fibre board

Bottom>> usually a water proofing layer

hope this helps.

My advice if you are getting engineered wood will be to see the physical sample, laminate floor = 1 single piece as for engineered wood will be top layer real solid wood and many layers as the base. Do not based on the term engineered wood as it is very subjective.

Hi!!!

Yes they are new... Kronotex has ben quite sometime in e market.. but they like to misuse the real wood with laminate.. which is not gd at all... giving ppl the wrong perception.. if im not wrong they are only 4 mths old.. R u sure you want to go with them?? have you checked bout their quality and workmanship?? For me.. I rather go for a reputable brand and has been in the markt for long..... Like Pergo! Have been long and service is gd and workmanshiop is gd.. A little at e high side but im confident w thm.

Hi immunity, as someone mentioned earlier, engineered wood flooring generally refers to a layer of real wood surfacing applied on a core board which can be either hdf, plywood, or small blocks of wood joined together to form a board.

As to Kronotex calling their laminate flooring "engineered flooring", imo it is valid, as there is a fair bit of engineering involved :D

Definitely, it has a higher degree of validity than Pergo claiming to be the "inventor of laminate flooring". Afterall, which part of the laminate flooring did Pergo invent? The high pressure laminate hpl? NO, the hdf? NO, the balancing paper? NO, the click system? NO

So they took a piece of furniture board, cut it to plank size and laid it on the floor, AND that makes them the inventor??

If that is the case, then the first chap who took a piece of marble floor and cut it to size, and than have it for a kitchen top, is also the inventor of the marble kitchen top. :D

Hi Immunity,

I think many people use krono products, you can find them in this forum but different topics, I saw quite numbers. One is in laminating flooring topics.

Cheers
