Uv Light For Home: Cleaning/house Keeping, Hygiene?

I was told UV light is strong and "powerful" enough to kill bacteria, mould, etc, how about those small dust mite that can be found in old furniture? I really hate those insects around.Would UV light effective in killing those?

UV light is not good for our skin, maybe I can just buy a bulb and use it in a lamp, turn it on in the room for a few hours? Any place to buy the normal UV light bulb and how much?
