Hi

i am in condo penthouse . Upstairs i dont have any living space, it is a just open-space.. The staircase are is quite tall (more than 600m). i just had a crazy idea to knock off the existing staircase and build one more floor and use the new compact swirl staircase (may be steel structure). note: i am not asking about constructing anything in the open area upstairs, i know it will modify the roof area..

so i am wondering, can i hack of staircase in condo? i dont know whether it is part of structure.. just thought of taking forum inputs before getting in to action. if it is not part of building structure, am i allowed to hack it? and construct one more floor in codo's ( i will be using aluminum structure) ... i know it will be a quite a hack.. waiting to hear your inputs.

Regards

shan

Wow, 600m?

I am not an expert, but my understanding of strata regulation is that, a standalone staircase is not a common structure. In this case, you may be to do something about it.

If it is attached to a common wall, such as the wall between your unit and neighbor's, the wall which the other side is the sky, or common corridor, then the staircase is not standalone.

Regardless of whether or not you can modify a staircase, creating a loft is illegal but.I know some managed to do it while the MC is sleeping on the job. Aluminum cannot support a floor la...

Cheers!

Heya, Lauer is correct in highlighting the construction or creation of a loft is illegal as this will be factored as your built-up area. Also you might want to give some due consideration in the event that you intend to dispose of the property
