Home Water Filter System Under The Sink

Recommended Posts

Just like to share what i found and had bought for home water filter system.

after doing some intensive research over 2 weeks. i decide for APEC 5 stage reverse osmosis under sink water filter. :thumbs up:

i was torn between using expresswater or APEC. But from reviews both in amazon and outside, it seemed APEC is the preferred model. but expresswater comes cheaper and with extra water filter ! :thumbs up:

I have left the UV light option out as i think ours is considered city water that is already well treated and besides i do not want complication of getting the wiring for uv light and if anything wrong i gotta fix the uv.

however, since i cannot find a company here selling, i will have to diy install. i manage to get a plumber who say he can install but regarding the kitchen top faucet, he need my kitchen contractor to install the faucet, the rest he can do. so YES! :thumbs up:

i bought from amazon and ship via my package forwarder. Yes! :thumbs up:

manage to get my ID to help me install the APEC water filter.:yamseng: thanks to the plumber who complied and help out.

Installation is quite simple but the drainage point if you are doing connection to drain pipe need be low than filter. Also if you have a ceramic sink like us, you need to be very careful to ensure the supplier help you drill a hole for the filter tap faucet as ceramic drilling can cause cracks. no prob if sink is metallic

Around $500.( inc shipping) This is 5 stage filter. I was considering 6 stage (with uv light) but decided against it bcos electrical point below the sink i find too risky and complicated as i initially also dun know if it can be easily installed. (Although online buyers all give good ratings and say easy to install on feedback page)

wow a RO system for normal usage the waste water is going to a lot if not wrong?

The system really quite smart. It will store the filtered water into the pressurised tank. And stop once the tank it fills up.

no, its does not "waste" any water, a RO system uses water to clean itself and wash away impurities. It's like a lot of other water-using appliances. We use water to wash clothes, to wash dishes, to wash cars, to flush toilets.

A reverse osmosis unit uses more water in its operation than you actually consume, yes. but it doesn't use enough that you'll notice it on your water bill.

It uses water only while it's filling its storage tank. When the tank is full, the whole unit shuts down and no water runs to drain.

In terms of expense, it's like a couple or three extra toilet flushes a day. it will be even less if you do not use the water for washing but just drinking.

I think the APEC is really value even after shipping. A 3M 5stage filter cost 2.3k to buy and install. Even hyflux does not provide 5 stage RO filter and it cost already 1.xxk for 3 stage

Possible to install on a hot and cold tap, eg hot inlet for tap water and cold inlet for RO water? So the additional tap hole can be used for built in detergent dispenser.

actually if its metallic sink, drilling more holes is not issue to install mmore taps. But for ceramic sink, usually they have already designated 1 or 2 more positions where you can drill for extra taps, but drilling you gotta ask if they provide if not can get ID to help(but they will tell u if crack they not responsible)

otherwise some can install on the solid surface top or even the kompac plus top.

what started me to search for a serious home water filter was a few yrs ago, i kinda itchy hands and went to buy a $2 filter for tap from daiso. after few weeks i start to realise the water filter changing colour to slight brownish from white,. i mean even for cheap simple filter like this it already collected some substance, i did not bother to find out what they are but for sure i do not want these in me. i continue to use the $2 filter as min form of filtration though, changing it every few months.

additionally, i find there are harmful effects of flourine despite what ppl say about tooth decay prevention etc

thats when i realise there actually different levels to what is good clean drinkable water, i know of friends who solely buy bottled water just for drinking. i know i may get stick for this but to each his own.

And i have been drinking this kinda water for my whole life, not that anything happen to me.

So now got opportunity to install a good filter thats when i start searching for one.

Hihi,

I am following exactly your path with a similar stone sink and wanting to drill a hole for the water filter... I couldn't find any contractor willing to drill a hole or those that did say no guarantee on cracks ! How did you find such a contact? Did they just use a normal drill bit? The stone never crack?
