Copper Vs Stainless Steel Piping

Recommended Posts

i pay $300 to change the kitchen water pipe to stainless steel. My parents advise me to do so as they say that PVC joint will grow mouldy after a few yrs. Cause if the pipings are inside the cabinets, once it start to leak, den will have to tear down the cabinet to change it.

stainless steel will still rust unless it's top grade ones

those used for piping are usually 18/8

even 18/10 pots from WMF still rust after years

copper dun rust, they just oxidise and thus the colour change

s/s looks nice but joints are a problem - can't bend too much or risk breakage in the future coz the material is compromised

PVC is actually good coz it basically doesn't rust

actually about the mouldy part, i dun quite understand

my home pipes are almost as old as i am but no mould leh

PVC easily mouldy from inside....experiment, fill a plastic bottle and a steel bottle with water, leave one side and see the effect after many days... Mine is copper. Dun like steel partially because it will darken after some time and will be a mismatch with my shiny chrome fittings. And not easy to paint. As for copper, require painting and cheaper.

Do you know there is something in the market apart from steel and copper? Its finishing is exactly like a chrome fittings. Very shiny. Dunno what it's exactly called. $$$ a bit. The person who sell my taps showed me and told me it will not rust, just need to wipe it to shine. Really nice. Too bad no money.

SS will not corrode easily. The mould on it will prevent the rust from spreading. So what you will see on a typically corroding SS pipe are spots of rust/
