Moving is never easy. Selecting the items to keep, throw or store ultimately depends on the final interior design of the new flat. The designer, with his flair for creating a stylish and eclectic mix of chinois chic with a modern, contemporary style has taken the edge of the choice, much to the pleasure of the homeowner.
There is a sense of something special upon entering the well lit lobby area of the house. Classically lit with halogen lamps casting their warm glow on the display shelf nestled comfortably amongst the stylish shoe rack, one can’t help but feel drawn in to the house.

The living room doesn’t disappoint with a unique blend of the owners’ old furniture and wooden panels, re-lacquered, polished up, shined and blended into the modern console with added backlights. The oriental look was saved with much flourish from the previous home for sentimental reasons but yet with the dash of modern style with the plasma television with a surround sound system and leather sofas, the living room does not seem even a tad bit out of style.
Tailored to the owner’s interests, a tall bicycle mount added specially for her biking enthusiast son was added in the balcony to save space and add a touch of ruggedness to the area while a small music room was created out of the freshly portioned home, just beside the maid’s room to cater for the family’s love of music.

The master bedroom is a spacious splash of vibrant orange interspersed with white walls and furnishing. With a worktop with a corkboard for messages gently lit with diffuse light to reduce the glare associated with the intensity of the orange; this room is both utilitarian and comfortable. The lime green tiles and associated accessories of the master bedroom toilet add a dash of playful contrast to the all pervasive orange in the room itself.
The owner’s son’s bedroom takes on a more functionally masculine look with brown furniture with black accents. Laid out akin to an Escher painting, the bed melds seamlessly into the workstation and storage facilities in the room.

The style of the owner’s daughter shines though with the purple toned bedroom complete with drapes on the full length mirror. With a clear cut neat layout of furniture, the clutter is reduced to the minimum and the room looks much more spacious.

The dining area brings back fond memories of the old school charm of a traditional Chinese home. With freshly reshined wooden furniture with a central Lazy Susan, one can envision many evenings of home cooked food where the family would gather to share their day. The rustic feeling of the dining area is further enhanced by the wooden cupboard, deftly accessorized with an old bird cage on top, for effect.

A glass panel and door separates the dining area from the kitchen to give depth to the otherwise constricted area. Ordered cupboards line the kitchen with a contemporary colour scheme featuring brown and white tones overlayed with silver trimmings.

The design of this home lays testament to the timeless elegance of restored furniture when deftly melded with the luxuries expected of a modern home, much to the satisfaction of the home owner. |
