  1. Got this bowl and regretted it. Firstly the toilet seat is uncomfortably narrow, leading to numb legs. The seat also makes it hard to do business. I realised that my anus was prolapsing each time I used this toilet bowl for big business. It doesn't happen with other bowls. As the shape is not standard, you can only buy new seats (which are the same uncomfortable shape) from Baron for $50+. Other normal seats are around $20+. I may just replace the entire bowl seeing that I am concerned about the health problems this may cause.
  2. I chose Samsung for fridge because it seemed like the only one that came in white, and wasn't terribly expensive (like Whirlpool or something.) Got it two years ago, with fridge, tv and microwave. The stuff is still in working condition.
  3. I bought a front load Samsung, don't remember what model, almost two years ago. It's still working (touch wood). I find it rather quiet, except for a short time during the drying cycle when it's starting to spin really fast, then it quiets down. Must make sure it's level, or it gets rather noisy! When it's done, there's a short melody to inform you. I enjoy using it - has delay function, and up to 1000 RPM for drying. The inside is a steel drum, which I read was more durable on these forums. I don't know what other features the newer washing machines these days have though.
  4. Saw that home fix has some brands of stone cleaners. However, I have not tried them yet, so I do not know how good they are.
  5. Oops .. so many S's in the mattress biz - thought there'd be more Zs. Thanks for the correction. I guess if the mother is sleeping alone, the pocketed spring is not a must-have, right?
  6. How often do you refer to your course materials? I have been doing my courses and I found that I can find the information on the internet if I remember the name of the theory/subject. So I have thrown most of the notes from my short courses out. That should get rid of the bulk of the stuff so you find you don't really need extra storage. If you do, buy a book shelf and display the books properly. Try and get a solid wood one. Though expensive, they look nice and the shelves will not bend as much when using chipboard materials. Can also consider installing built-in shelves so they cover one entire wall. This gives the room cleaner lines and it reduces clutter. To make the room look even airier, go without doors. If you want to make it easy to clean, go with mirrored doors. Doubles up as a wardrobe mirror.
  7. Did you specify galvanised wrought iron? My contractor told me that there was no need since water never gets onto the gate, but I insisted. So far so good, fingers crossed. Only costs about 90 dollars extra.
  8. Actually, Simmons isn't the best. There are the 3'S - Simmons, Sealy and Serta. I have heard wonderful things about Serta, but it is not exactly cheap. On the other end, I have a colleague who enjoys her Dunlopillo. Pocket springs are not new technology, neither is it limited to Simmons. So, do go and try out the beds, lie in the ones you want for 15 mins to get a good idea of which bed you like best before taking it home. Also, for info, do a search around the net for any complaints. Simmons seems to have more than its fair share on the review websites.
  9. Robinsons and Simmons both carry the Glendale. Is this the one with plush or pillowtop? Not recommended to get because the latex layer will soften after 2 mths and it won't be as comfortable anymore. Just get a spring mattress and then get a mattress protector/overlay. So if the overlay softens, you can change easily.
  10. I can empathize. I was looking for my induction cooker at R*na electrical in Orchard. The sales assistant could not answer any of my questions and had the cheek to ask me if I was there to do a survey or buy something. I wanted to slap her. Instead, I just said 'thank you' politely and left the store. I bought my teka hob from Poh Joo at Jln Besar instead, which was highly recommended and for good reason. The sales lady accompanied me for about 2 hrs while I was making up my mind on the stuff I wanted to get! She even skipped lunch to serve me. Poor thing.
  11. Unfortunately, mattresses are very very personal. You can play it safe by getting something with no overlay (i.e. no plush or pillow top) with just the spring mattress. Then add your desired layer (viscoelastic, foam etc) for comfort. My friend buys sea horse brand and just put a viscoelastic layer on it and he says it's very comfortable. Another thing to note that though firm mattress are recommended, it does not mean hard. Hard mattresses can cause pressure points at heavier parts of the body, causing pain. Thus they are more suited for lighter bodied people. Be specific about the model you are buying - sellers have been known to deliver the wrong models. Lastly, never pay full-price - the shop assistants will want to get full value from you. 25% - 40% discount is possible, at Expo, Robinson's sales etc. If they cannot lower any more, try to get freebies - mattress protector, pillows etc. Just let them know another place you asked offered those. Good luck with mattress hunting.
  12. I understand - I have eczema too, so far, so good. Leather seems to require more care than fabric, because you can't just wash it. You need to use cream and conditioner and manually cover the whole sofa with it. I have also heard that it is quite warm, tho other ppl say that only synthetic leather makes you warm. This should not be a prob tho, if you have a maid who helps you clean. If you are going for country style, I think ecktorp is quite suitable. You could go with the flowery cover or the striped ones.
  13. hi, they can give you that guarantee because the model is named differently with a different distributor. this is the same for all mattress sellers. i am not familiar with sealy range, so unfortunately, i can't help you save a little more. if you are very comfortable with the mattress, then every cent is worth it. hope you avoided plush or pillow tops, or the non-flip thing. because plush/pillow top will settle and the non flip thing just means you are buying half a mattress.
  14. I got mine from Ikea - quite sturdy steel frame with padded legs. Adjustable height and easy foldaway mechanism. Costs about 59 I think.
  15. Through the fabric - the sharp end of the feathers poke through the fabric, like with feather pillows. It's only one feather every few days and my sofa seems to have settled down. No feathers the past few days. Saw some really nice sofas at Ikea yesterday though. It has leather covers and costs about 1000. Was quite comfortable and looks contemporary, I was tempted to get.
  16. Hi you may want to check this out: http://www.ezziliving.com/ Price is around 400+ for 4 pole system. Can lift about 20 kgs I think.
  17. Ektorp has been quite comfy so far. I got the 3 seater and have been having afternoon naps on it. The cover is just fit on and zip type, so it is easy to do. The main frame is also made of pine wood, so expect would be rather durable. I have only had it for 2 months tho. The down filling provides slight inconvenience as they will poke u occasionally and you may have feathers escaping. However, for the price, it is hard to get something decent at other places and this is a nice sofa.
  18. I have friends who recommend king koil and dunlopillo, you may want to try those. I tried Sealy before and did not find them great. I bought Simmons instead, which was an expensive mistake. As for where to buy, I think the expo gives pretty good prices and the home and design exhibits happen 2-3 times a mth. Or you can buy during Robinson's sale and they will slash plenty off the mattress price. Considering the bad economy, they will be slashing more. Read around the net - it seems that Simmons quality has gone down and I am one unhappy customer. I sleep better on my Ikea sofa.
  19. I hope you remember the right mattress model. Ackerman and Smith delivered a very different model to what I had selected. I did not want a plush layer and they delivered a Milner Plush. I called to say it was wrong and the salesperson insisted that was the model. The fatal mistake? Letting her just write Beautyrest Classic on receipt when there are many different types of classic out there. With no choice, just have to accept. Now living with back pain every day after just one month of sleeping on the **** quality mattress. Emailed Simmons, they just ignored me. Also read that their crap warranty is invalid if you dont buy from approved distributor, have you checked their website? Not that it matters since it seems from the net that they hardly ever honour the warranty.
  20. bigorange, the hob is not fixed onto counter - so can flip if not happy. hehe. do make sure they put the rubber seal provided to prevent any spillage into your cabinets. also, no silicon to glue it down - that will crack the hob! for info, induction hobs can only work with ferrous pots and pans (i.e. steel, iron etc). It has been a joy using my teka hob since I can maintain an optimal temperature with a press of a button - my fried eggs (only thing i can cook) turns out beautifully each and every time! Even cook maggi mee is faster than 3 mins lol
  21. Using a WFJ-1061 Samsung washer for the past 2 mths. It cleans well and is very quiet . Will complain if it fails within a yr.
  22. Really? I found out that in the US they are famous for mattresses that do not last, breaking down after a few mths and bad customer service. Worse, the only 5 star reviews looked like they had been written by Simmons themselves. Just look around at any site that sells the mattresses. The bad reviews are all there. I don't know why I never saw them before. Buyer beware - esp. dont buy anything plush or pillow top or anything with thick padding. Actually, at Ackerman, I remembered choosing a mattress with little foam layer - yet when it arrived, it was the milner plush, with thick foam. My partner could not remember and we accepted the delivery. Now feel so lost, because the warranty terms are unfavourable and there was no reply from Simmons.
  23. For fabric, if you are worried about spills, apparently 3m scotchguard can minimise the seepage for fabric sofas. Using Ikea ecktorp sofa now and it is very comfortable. However, its stuffing (feathers) manages to escape once in a while.
  24. That's because I made a mistake of paying 5k + for a simmons bed at ackerman and smith and i am still paying for it with my nightly backache. The drawers under the bed frame I found out later were not even sanded down, just painted. Sealy seems to have complaints too but Simmons seems to have more (after searching the US websites, AFTER buying.) Standard height is up to you. I would think higher bed is easier to get on and out of. Also, higher legs also means easier cleaning under the bed.
