  1. If not wrong, glendale is equivalent of Milner Plush, a very costly experience but here are some things to avoid: Plush, pillow top or anything that's soft. The Simmons salesperson will say that the mattress will conform to your body shape. This means that no matter how good it feels in the beginning, the material will turn to mush, giving you as much support as a hammock. Check the net, lots of complaints about shoddy workmanship in the Simmons range. Thinner springs. The sales person will tell you this makes it more responsive. Meaning your core will sink while the rest stay up, again hammock effect. US models They will tell you it is more reliable but I think of this as consumer fixed mindedness. How complicated can making a mattress be? You will be paying a premium on transporting the mattress and you could easily buy that hammock here. Patented no-flip technology This means that they are giving you half the mattress. The other side is flat and you only have one side to wear down. Which means your mattress will expire a lot quicker than you expected. Simmons Non-existent customer service. Wrote to them to ask if there was any exchange possible and there has been no reply since. If you check again, it seems that recently, their work has turned to **** because loyal customers are now finding the joys of back pain. Enjoy!

  3. Look at any ordinary switch in HDB - it has a box, covered by a 'lid' which contains the switch. The box, is a mounting box and the 'lid' is the faceplate. Seriously, consider doing a small part of false wall near pillars and locate your switches near them since you cannot have concealed wiring. However, after living in the place for a while, you don't notice the switches so much, esp. if you have hidden them near pillars etc.
  4. I have them just for the bedroom. Not only do they block out noise, they also insulate the room, lowering energy costs for cooling. : ) They were a few hundred dollars more, I think, but the quiet in the room is really worth it and they do not trap dust like thick curtains do.
  5. Does anyone know where I can get translucent acrylic panels? I need them for my bathroom bi-fold door. Contractor told me frosted, but I got a shock when I saw this WHITE panel. He's willing to change them, but trouble is that there is no stock! Exploring buying the stick-on film, but I think that could be quite troublesome.
  6. Small matter - ID can replace. Remember to ask for extra tiles to keep in case more get damaged in future.
  7. I once thought the same too until they installed my toilet sink. The outlet is slanted, leading to the pipe being slanted. It's exposed and it looks ugly. : ( I don't think this is a valid reason for me to return the sink..
  8. I hear that wires can last indefinitely. No need to rewire. 10, 20 yrs down the track, do a full reno with your rewiring la.
  9. I went to Woodlands branch, their HQ. Update - apparently, Mallia series does not have wall mounting boxes - they use Milac which is cream while Mallia is white. Therefore, if you need to use mounting boxes, do not use Le Grand Mallia. The colours will not match nicely.
  10. Stainless steel is less tensile (i.e. harder to bend) than copper. Therefore, for going around corners, they have to make corner joints, which can be quite unsightly. Copper tends to bend more readily so, less joints. Copper rusts to a green colour, which can be difficult to remove. Stainless steel rusts less, but it will still happen. Both are quite ok but the humble PVC would not rust, though it looks unsightly. : )
  11. I think it's just the look. I think the glass types seem more troublesome to clean though.
  12. Search forums for the electrical pricing - looks a bit high. You may want to save money by: Painting kitchen instead of tiling. L-box instead of false ceiling I also notice you have China granite. I think Indian Black Galaxy, though more expensive, is nicer since it is sparkly while China granite is black. If in doubt, as for a sample or request to select the piece before they cut/install it. Also, try to get 3-5 quotes so you have a fair idea what people are asking. Reason being that if you bargain too much, the quality may suffer too. Good luck.
  13. I think it is this order: Kitchen (Hacking, Tiling, Piping) Electrical Replace Aircons Painting Kitchen (Cabinets)
  14. Went to Ackerman and Smith at IFC today. The sales person was quite nice and patient while serving my partner and I. We decided on the Simmon's Beautyrest Classic (King Size). With the DBS discount, the mattress still cost slightly more than $4000. However, the decision was made because we laid on the bed for 15 minutes and did not feel like getting up. In addition, we popped by the King Koil shop after Ackerman, just to look around. The King Koil beds were nowhere close to Simmons'. Neither was the shop assistant, who grudgingly served us. While the Ackerman SA had bothered to lay the bed nicely for us to try, the King Koil one just pointed at the bed. When I asked if there were softer ones, the King Koil SA exclaimed, "you still want softer??" What I was politely trying to say was that I was looking for something more comfortable than the piece of plastic they call a bed. Before IFC, we tried Courts. Most looked away and unwilling to serve. The one staff who bothered knew little about the mattresses she was selling, though she tried her best. The best one I saw was a Sealy Castle which cost about $3600. Unfortunately, the bed frames they had did not look very nice. Anyway, in the end, we got the Simmons mattress from Ackerman with the bed frame for $5600. This includes 2 latex pillows.

    Poh Joo

I spent 2300 there and only got one free bidet spray and one tap. But my cost is high due to the induction hob which alone cost 1k. ><

    Poh Joo

I shopped at Poh Joo and was served patiently by Fei Fei. Not only did she stay with me while I was thinking through, she also helped to suggest some nice looking items, which I ended up buying. She was also very knowledgeable, which helped because there were some things I had not considered. On top of it, I got a nice 10% discount on my teka hob and hood : ) (I would have gotten 20% if I had waited for Teka sale, but with reno close to completion, who has time to wait.) I took about 2-3 hours and she didn't eat lunch because she was serving me. I didn't realise and felt so bad, when I saw her lunch sitting there, while her colleagues were busy eating. She also allowed me to 'KIV' some stuff because I could not decide on the spot. After shopping at Poh Joo, I looked around and realised that most of their prices are quite reasonable. However, a word of advice to future shoppers, you may wish to check out Rigel for your toilet bowls and sinks, just for comparison. The experience was a very good one, esp. after the ignorant woman at Rina Electrical could not answer my questions while I was trying to buy an induction cooker hob. She even had the cheek to ask me if I was doing a survey or buying a hob!
  17. A word of concern about Choo Chiang - the staff do not seem very knowledgeable about the products and they do not keep very good inventory. I have had to go back 3 times. 1st time - Buy switch, but didn't buy mounting box. I was not sure, and I asked her if I needed a mounting box. She said it was optional. Asked the staff about other items, first answer was don't have. However, after checking with boss, there was. 2nd time - Went back to get mounting box. wanted to buy some faceplates, but they don't have. Saving grace is that they were willing to get from the other branch, but I had to wait until next week. 3rd time - This time I got my wall mounting boxes together with the faceplates, but they are a different series, even though I specifically told her Mallia. Should have been apparent had I compared the series numbers. So I may have to go back a 4th time - if they have stock and are willing to change. : ( All in all, I think I wasted more money and time buying from them than if I had just gone to an ordinary store that bothers to train its staff. Very very agitated now because tomorrow have to install. ><
  18. There is no one reason. People just seek someone else when something in their relationship is lacking. It may not be the partner's fault, and could be due to misunderstanding or a difference in morals. For example, this colleague of mine had sex with his ex several times because his wife had no desire, after giving birth. The scariest thing a man can hear is "Sex is for having children only what."
  19. I don't understand why you say men change only after staying together. Actually, it seems like he has remained the same, while you have started to pry into his private life. In a matter of months, you have started monitoring who calls him, who emails him and everything that he does. 6 years of dating, and you had never done so. You also know you have been disrespecting his privacy. You are also crying more, getting angry more - which would put anyone off. If there were a better road to divorce, this is it. Not only that, you have not found anything incriminating, despite going to extreme lengths - it seems like you hope to find something. What you have found seems to imply only that the two women are throwing themselves at him and he seems to not care much. Ironically, there are women who love men who ignore them. They see it as a challenge and will continue to 'hound' him. He is working in a fairly stressful line, where people may call him at all hours to discuss things. His free time is during the day. At night, when people are off work - they will call him to discuss details. If he were to have an affair, he would have it during the day. Rates are cheaper, and when he's travelling from site to site, he can easily slip off for some 'hot coffee'. Why bother with night-time when it's so easily discovered? What I am saying is, he is likely not having an affair, and those calls are from clients, which is why he ignores them. Sometimes, the call is from an important client, and he probably has no choice but to take the call. Think about his situation - while he's working in a difficult and uncomfortable line, he has a wife who shows no trust in him, despite having been dating for six years before getting married. Day in, day out, he probably 'kena' left, right, centre from rough and unreasonable clients. Go home, day in, day out, kena left right centre from his wife, who wants him to change to suit her. Even when you tried something romantic, it was something you like - not what he likes. Communication does not always need to be verbal - it could be physical or from actions. Does he like massages? Food? Quiet? Do you hold hands regularly? Kiss goodbye? Hug and cuddle while at home? While watching TV, try massaging his hand and keep quiet. Perhaps he just needs time alone - then do your own things too, but drop by from time to time and give him a peck just to remind him you're there.
  20. For installing the laminate flooring, how do you prevent water from the HDB corridor washing from splashing onto the laminates at your living room? Would like to avoid damage your flooring?
  21. One place NOT to go - Rina Electricals. I took half-day off today just to buy from their store because they had several brands under one roof. Unfortunately, they do not open past six. Even though I was not feeling well, I thought that I should clear this item off my list. I was prepared to fork out $2k for an induction hob and hood. I was fairly sure about the model already, so I decided to ask questions, just to make sure about my purchase. After all, induction hobs are quite expensive and I had never used one before. The woman who approached me did not smile. Woman: Are you looking for something? Me: Yes, I'm looking for an induction hood. Hope to learn more about it. Woman: (Looks up into the air) You hope to learn more about it ... (repeating each word I said) Me: Yes, for example, the two rings. Can I only use similar sized pans on it? Woman: No, the heat comes from the ring, but it will spread into the pan. Me: I see, then how much difference does the wattage make to cooking speed? Woman: That depends on how much food you have and what you are cooking. Me: Say water? Woman: Are you trying to do a survey or build a kitchen? *Annoyed tone* Shocked by the final line, I uttered my thanks and walked out. I was amazed a place so expensive had such unprofessional staff. Maybe it was just her or maybe they are used to richer clients. There was one client who was buying a few hobs and a few hoods. So compared to him, I am but a small fry, not worth spending time on. Anyway, was very unhappy with my experience.
