  1. hahaha, i also dunno. My idea and terminology came from staining teak furniture, whereby we get to choose the tones/shades to give the overall look in a darker or lighter tone...if u know what i mean. Hahaha, i'm also confused cos like I said, never have the luxury of staying in a flat done up with marble flooring. congrats on getting Florida, Penthouse some more. Wow, must be very ex and reno cost alot. I just moved out of Ave 7 otherwise I'm your across the road neighbour.
  2. Hi, just moved in to my 5i and having some problems with the SCV points. All the 4 rooms and living hall already fixed up with SCV points. 2 of the rooms having reception problems as frequently seeing box-like pixels on the TV screen or the screen might freeze for a second or two. Maxonline connection at study room also occasionally giving lacks connection. Yet to try out the connection in the last room since there's no TV set inside the room. Had called in SCV and confirmed that the set boxes are in good working order and the problem is caused by 1 single SCV point spitting into 4 rooms + 1 living hall. Signal is very bad as only receiving about less than 40%. Advised to call in SCV technician and re-connection fee would be $107 per point. We're holding back due to the cost and had consulted 2 electricians. One suggested getting a booster and cost would be lesser than having to re-connect the 4 points. SCV had also suggested pulling and installing an extra box outside which is not the norm since its per box per household. Any one encounter such problems?
  3. ID or contractors usually charges more as they are just middle men. We as owners always have the option to go directly to the manufacturers. I could go directly and pay $180 for my bi-fold doors since I got the contacts but since my contractor charged me $200 and he oversees the whole project so I din mind paying that extra $20. Furthermore, the $180 was for a smaller door and mine was much bigger so I'm not sure if I would still be getting $180. That's y save all the trouble and let my contractor handle everything.
  4. change the windows? Think there wont be any issue so dont get too worried about it. The most is they get u to change the rivets for the windows if your contractor did the windows without compiling with the new regulations.
  5. the acid wash involves using chemicals to wash all those work areas i.e usually only those areas that are being renovated by your ID or contractor.
  6. price ranges from $180 to $200.
  7. since there's already an existing hob then take that measurement. It'll also be good to take down the make and model of that hob and get the specification from the respective website of the manufacturer, if any.
  8. i would vote for grey, at least scratches not so visible compared to white & black kitchen top
  9. u may like to visit the EM thread and get some advise from those who have done up their EM or are in the midst of doing it. Cheers!
  10. if u really like it and can afford it then go for it. before u sign on the dotted line, view it again and confirm that u really need minor reno for the flat. btw, is it on high floor?
  11. We regret spending so much on renovation to overhaul our EM which we have recently sold. The buyers only need a new coat of paint and moved in days after we handed over the keys. We did so many built-ins as we thought we would be staying there for years but life is so unpredictable that we were forced to sell due to unforeseen circumstances. The first thing we regretted was to do up the flooring with homogeneous tiles. It stained easily and was not as shining as we like it to be. The tiles look dull and the ugliness cant be cleaned away and just hate looking at it when the lights shine in from the balcony. The grout lines gets dirty so easily and given up on cleaning it. Should have done up the flooring with either marbles or granite. Laminated flooring. No complaints about laminated flooring but should have done up with parquet since it does make a different to the valuation.
  12. looks like we're going to have more than 1 good news soon. Don't overstress yourself. Good luck!
  13. if its illegal reno then must remove it eg. platform too high, boxed up of bomb shelter hole. If its not rectified then the sales completion would be delayed.
  14. I think what Jaskel meant was to patch and do up if there's any cracks. Those dark lines are in fact the marble patterns so dun think can omit it. Wonder if its possible for the contractors to lighten or darken the overall effect when doing the polishing by adding lesser or more of the polishing 'material'. I'm not sure since never have the chance to own a unit with marble flooring.
  15. hahaha, sure very excited hor. For us, hubby even have to buy 2 pregnancy kit to confirm as one of the kit gave a very very faint line. depends on individual like what familyof4 said as the 1st trimester is quite critical.
  16. can also visit the gynae to listen to his advises especially for 1st time parents...also get folic acid and vitamins or calcium pills for those in need of it. one point to note is,once wifey confirm pregnant, stop all your vitamins or supplements if u're not sure of the dosage for pregnant ladies eg Vitamin A.
  17. hahaha, it'll definitely be good work out for u. I enjoy running up the stairs but then didnt managed to slim down even after staying for 3.5yrs. I enjoy the 'workouts' when sweeping and mopping the whole house. Siong!
  18. we're also lucky to have my parents moved in with us and taking care of our kids. We used to have a maid but the maid is solely to do housework. The maid doesnt have to cook, bathe, feed or take care of the kids as we really dun trust the maid to do such duties. Yup, its already a blessing to have kids so boy or girl still the same. Whenever I was pregnant, we never hope or pray for a boy or a girl, we just accepted what God gave us. Hahaha, my 2nd boy is hyperactive and we already boh tahan. Now, my girl is worse and non-stop action. Its really different with a girl at home and who says girl should be gentle. My parents kept saying that the boys were never like her. Thank goodness we already shift out of my EM
  19. ya, randomly selected by HDB that's valuation reports done for the same house can defer by a few thousand dollars. On tat day, open all the windows and turn on all the lights.
  20. if your flat is not affected by this 'fire rated maindoor' ruling then u can just change to any normal door.
  21. we bought goose feather sofa when we first moved into our old flat. It was **** of a problem. The feathers were constantly coming out. The finishing by the side was in veneer, just like the coffee table and the tv console which we bought in a set. We were told that the veneer were treated and of a better grade. Less than 6 months, the veneer started peeling and we didnt even use water to clean the furniture. I had to sew another cloth over the goose feathers to prevent it from coming out. We eventually got rid of the sofa and coffee table after enduring it for more than a year.
  22. ya, try Kleen. The lady boss is very friendly and helpful.
  23. i'm not too sure about how to rectify your problem. In fact, my contractor reminded me not to get black tiles as white layer would form on it as time goes by. Maybe u try mopping it with just water to get rid of the residue and or dont add too much floor cleaner to it.
  24. Happy Birthday to Ah Boy. I agree, being a parent is really the best experience one can ever have. A PD told me that must tahan the first 100 days after birth. Its the most tiring period with endless sleepless nights. My friends and cols all envy me as I'm still very active when I'm pregnant and can eat whatever I want. No morning sickness, no vomiting, etc. Since I gone thru 3 cesarean so I have nothing to share on labour pain. I think the closest I get was when I had my 2nd miscarriage...it was really painful. ya, hubby gotta take a back seat but he's fine with it as both of us enjoy being parents. Both of us also believe in "spare the rod, spoil the child" but we'll always explain to the kids why we had to punish them.
