  1. actually my 2nd appt date also not so soon...the HDB officer rushed for me... because i actually bug him that my current condition requires me to move in soon after a short reno. so he arrange for our 2nd appt within a week! i went for 2 first appointments..cos' the second time i had to re-sign my loan document..as we appealfor "near the parents' grant". I think u can keep sending email to your hdb officer to ask her to assist to expediate on your case. gd luck!
  2. reno not done yet lah...but that was the estimated time frame. Today is the first day of reno. The workers will only need max. 2 days to hack both toilet wall and floor tiles and kitchen wall tiles first. I think cost of reno approx. $15K to $20K max. My parents wants to pay for the reno but we will instead be paying them back by instalments on a monthly basis. No pics of reno yet. Have to get my hubby to go and take pics..cos' i can't step into the flat now with my current condition. Anyway..i've contacted this cindy Ng, she's a curtain maker recommended by some of the forumers here. She quoted me $1200 after some discount for curtains for the whole unit. 2 bedroom - half length day and night curtains, Master bedroom and Living room full height day and night curtain from wall to wall. Price also include double tracking for the curtains. Cheap or not? She brought along her fabrics and we had selected and since confirmed her services with 30% deposit. Will post pics of the curtains once they are ready. The fabrics that i've selected are from England according to her. Oh...and currently she's operating from home with 3 workers..so i think she can afford to charge her customers lower rates. Will update whether she's good. yup yup...hope i'll have pics of the reno in process to show to you all.
  3. got solution liao...hehehe we'll construct a full height wardrobe upon entering master bedroom to block the entrance. And we also decided not to overlay the flooring since we are not doing anymore hacking of walls. I think my reno will be completed in approx 3weeks time...hehehe..
  4. I used to stay with my parents who stay at 6th floor...and after marriage..for the past 10mths been staying at 12th floor. My new flat is at 3rd floor...going for reno soon. I dunno abt you...but i like my new place...there's only 4 families..including mine..with lift upgraded already. So far...when i visit my new flat..the corridors are clean..and my neighbours popped over to say hello. 2 of my neighbours are malay while me and the other one are chinese. I also tot that low floors are for other races in the past (no offence!!) even my mom doesn't really like the idea of staying lower than 4th floor..but as long as you are happy..what's the problem? Let me revert 1 mth after i move into my new flat ok? cos' i was from a mid floor to high floor and then to a low floor club. ..and be happy with your flat purchase at level 2.
  5. my dad always says..."be contented with what you have and live within your means. If you have high expectations in life..and slogged very very hard for it by taking a job that you cannot tolerate then you'll suffer. I have seen people like that.. well, I think everyone needs to work if you are staying in Singapore..but it is important to take time off to destress...and appreciate the simple things in life. Get a hobby and stay positive.
  6. the pic in the website seems a tad too small..but i think it's the same ceiling fan that my parents-in-law were using now...my hub and i got this fan in our room and it works well. no sound and works well for us. anyway...my parents in law shifted to this current flat for 8 years already..and the fans were already there when they bought the flat from the previous owner. Thank god i found this fan cos' i wanted to install the same type in my own flat for my bed rooms. Frankly speaking the fan doesn't look that nice..but at least the design is simple and fuss free. The price of $85 is really attractive too. Anyone know where i can get this fan for $85? Palacce of light?? or??
  7. if you retain everything in its original state then HDB warranty is valid. No overlaying of tiles. I was thinking in the master bedroom built a partition so that the bed doesn't have to face the main door. No idea whether it'll work or not. Will check with the FSM on Sunday. Last night i even dreamt abt my master bedroom and discussion with our FSM abt it. hahaha..i think im getting a little uptight abt it already. gotta take it easy. I've two dogs..but they have became so greedy and so fat now that my mother-in-law kept feeding them. But very soon they'll go to "slimming centre" once we shift. hohoho thanks pinkpetter...hope my place will turn out as pleasant looking and nice as yours.
  8. hi pple... HDB rejected our application for permit to seal up the master bedroom, create another entrance at the storeroom, hack the storeroom entrance wall and door and also to widen the kitchen doorway. My FSM is coming over tomorrow again and i will check with her our options... Oh ya...my dad just said if we dun hack anything..and even retain the HDB original tiles..it will be under HDB warranty. That means to say if next time any of the tiles pop...HDB has to redo the tiles for us. But i still dunno if i should forget abt overlaying the tiles..for the flat... Tomorrow going to select tiles already.. Everything is like in a mess....haiz.. btw..Mrspiglet..your cats are very cute...!
  9. Hi pinkpetter... I really like your new home...wow! This is what i like...for my home..but unfortunately..we can't go for pure white after consulting our FSM. but we can go for cream colour..hopefully the effect will be similar for us. Will check out the furniture shop tht you recommended..cos' it's very likely we'll not custom make too. Your wardrobes are a steal so cheap and nice. The nicer ones that i saw were at least $900plus. Your decals are very nice too. Can see that your family are closely knitted. Happy Family!
  10. im sure after polish and shine..your marble flooring will look fantastic.. i've got a friend who got her contractor to chemical bleech her ceramic tiles (i think) from pink to white..and it looked so good now. She didn't even have to change or overlay the tiles. She's lucky that her existing tiles are shiny type..cos' matt tiles cannot become shiny.
  11. yah...no storeroom...cos my FSM said the direction of my master bedroom is not ideal. I also feel uncomfortable abt the bed facing the front door if i retain the existing master bedroom entrance. My dad was also saying the old HDB tiles makes a good base for overlaying. He say can save time, material cost and worker's fee..considering that im almost due soon..dun have much time to spend on much reno. i would like to shift into my new place soon..at least right after i popped. ehhehe
  12. i think for toilet tiles...better not to overlay..cos' of the moisture..i will be hacking my toilet tiles then lay over new ones. Now me and my hb thinking whether to overlay living room tiles and bedroom tiles..cos' even though the condition is original HDB tiles..they are in good condition just worried abt the part where they have to demolish..and whether we can get the same tiles to replace. If we dun overlay we can save a bomb..cos' the total floor area is quite huge.
  13. Hi Mrspiglet, like you our budget also very tight... But like the rest mentioned, if your window grilles are good..dun have to change..for mine..no window grilles at all. The windows also failing off... I think it's good that you are keeping the broken marble. I think it still looks nice to me. If my home have the same kind of flooring as yours..i can save a bomb. If you think of changing your flooring..then i would suggest overlaying..you can save on materials..time...etc.. Congrats on your new home!
  14. mine is 400 series...near to tampines JC. yours? Are you going to re-do the flooring? This flooring is original from HDB since 1987 (i think) the year this block was built! I'm going to select bigger tiles...preferably homogenous tiles for all bedrooms and living room. Kitchen tiles i will select ceramic...and different ceramic floor and wall tiles for both toilets. this project will be the first one for my dad for the year of the ox. heehhehe.. New year new hope for us all. Happy Happy CNY to everyone here! Very true! dun have to worry abt the carpark auntie...
  15. dun think..its major overhaul.. This is what we plan to do: 1)Overlay of floor tiles for living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms 2)Hacking of existing wall tiles for common toilet, kitchen and master bedroom toilet and lay new ones. 3)Hacking of common toilet and master bedroom toilet existing floor tiles and lay new ones 4) Painting for Living room and 3 bedrooms 5) Remove existing kitchen cabinets and redo new ones. 6) Replace wash basins and pedestals for common toilet and master bedroom toilet 7) To hack away 300mm wall to widen kitchen entrance as per floor plan above. 8) Demolish storeroom wall and door as marked on floor plan 9) Seal up existing master bedroom door as marked on floor plan 10) To create entrance to master bedroom as marked on floor plan 11) cornice for living room 12) Fittings - ceiling fan for 3 bedrooms and ceiling fan with light for living room 13) Day and night curtains for 3 bedrooms and living room 14) built in cabinet beside new master bedroom entrance 15) install frosted glass door for kitchen entrance. 16) Replace door frames for all bedrooms. 17) Window grilles for whole unit 18) replace windows for kitchen and one bedroom and master bedroom That's all. Still no idea how much it'll all cost us.. But my dad going to "start work" on this coming friday 30 Jan. Official reno date will still be 4 Feb. And we are going to select tiles this Thurs 29 Jan. hahahah.
  16. Thank u...thank u... Good to have a contractor who's my dad cos' once renovation starts i won't be able to go and look at the flat..as im preggie now..hehehe.. I dun have to worry abt workmanship..cos' his workers are also very experienced and has been working for him for almost 3 -4 decades. and If i've problem with anything..i can always go back and bug him too.hahaha.. hope my reno goes smoothly and finish on time..just nice for me to give birth to my son and then go straight to stay at my new home! pray hard.. the thing is...he haven't told me how much my whole reno will cost....im also afraid to ask leh...
  17. Master bedroom with view of toilet (we are going to seal up entrance of master bedroom and create another entrance along the storeroom wall) Storeroom (going to demolish the wall entrance and door) Bedroom 3 (my hubby's hobby room and my leisure room) I wont be having any 3-D pictures or 2-D drawings of my reno...cos' my contractor is my dad! Im also the one who just submitted the application of our renovation permit online on his behalf..hahahaha
  18. Standing at main entrance - shot in (that's the kitchen entrance on left and three bedrooms on right) view shot from inside to see the view of main entrance Kitchen with cabinets - from kitchen entrance (we are going to tear down the whole thing plus, overlay flooring with new tiles and hack wall tiles Common Toilet (going to redo the whole toilet) Bedroom 2 (nearest to the living room)
  19. On 7 Oct 08, finally found the unit that we wanted and the best thing is that it is just opposite my parents-in-law's block! (my hubby is the only son) just got our keys on 22 Jan 09 and renovation will commence on 04 Feb 09 because of the chinese new year.. We had also consulted our fengshui master on 22 Jan. Photos for Pre-reno coming soon!
  20. OMG...i love your toilet...simple but very classy! Hope you dun mind that im going to save a copy of your MBR toilet pic to show to my dad that this is exactly how i want my toilet to be...classy...and simple! Really love your house...everything is nice Keep it up. For my side i just hope i'll get my house keys soon so that i can start my reno and move in right after the birth of my baby.
  21. I really like your white tiles...are they ceramic or homogenous? I bet my hubby will love these tiles.. do you know how much per piece?
