  1. Hi, My dining area is very small. I intend to install a big mirror on the kitchen door and its wall (outside of the kitchen) to make the dining room look lager and brighter. Is it ok in fengshui? Please advise, thanks, Michele

  3. Thanks, Therat! Can we skip the 2nd step - 'hack common toilet floor tiles and supply install and relay new floor tiles (include water proof)'? The toilet was upgraded around 3 years ago, floor tiles & waterproof is still in good condition. By the way, could you send me your contractor's phone num? Cheers, Michele
  4. Hi, Please help to recomend a qualified contractor who can change toilet bowl from squatting-type to sitting-type! What're activities should be done? any reference quotations? Thanks a lot!
  5. It's good to working with Jeremy - luckily, bad things did not happen to me! Btw, what's the review? I've just recommend Jeremy to my friend. I'd be better if I let him know the thread, then he can decide and take his responsibility Let me find my cable, then upload photo Anyway, my kitchen design is different from yours. My is fridge - hob -sink- washer on straight line, and dining in the kitchen.
  6. Hi Aubrey, Your reno is quite fast I read your blog every day! My reno has completed! I'll share you my kitchen photo when I find the cable to transfer data from mobile phone to PC - Don't know where my hubby packed it. My hubby dislikes forum-things - all kind of forum .... so he doesn't allow me post photo of whole house Btw, do you intend to by a gas range instead of build-in hob? My friend got one. He put it on work-top of cabinet (standard height) and I feel it's too close too my face when I used it --> hot and dangerous!
  7. Hi Aubrey, Congrats! Finally you can start your reno and found a temporary place.... Staying-in during reno is very inconvenience although mine is just small effect. I have to mop bedroom floor eevryday -after work Btw, my reno has almost done - only solid-surface work-top left. Hope can finish by next Mon
  8. Welcome! Please share your experience/ photos.... I'm starting my reno next week....
  9. Hi Aubrey, Nice layout!!! Just small changes in your mom's room: - turn the bed 90degree --> better in fengshui, she can see who's coming into her room, and avoid direct 'bad air flow' (don't know how to say in English ) to her head when laying on the bed - move the sewing machine to the window --> she can enjoy daylight and freshair when working Btw, it'd better if you draw in exact scale
  10. I used Rinnai before - very good! Now I try Cuizino due to the good deal . It's also one of well-known brand, as my friends' comments - it's good so far. Hey, I dont make Jeremy busy ... just follow scheduled appointment ... and I only renovate kitchen + plastering and painting. Hopefully he can finish the reno soon bcoz I & hubby will stay there during the reno ...
  11. Hi Aubrey, Mine is 3NG - simple style Actually, the owner allowed us to move in after the 1st appointment --> we have time to inspect the flat and book furniture - almost done For hood, hob, sink, tap - I bought the Cuizino/ Franke package that Smallboy recommended on his blog - $700 for all!!! We've already chosen laminate + paint + solid surface right after signing contract. It's fast bcoz I keep an idea of neutral theme in my mind This Sat, we will choose tiles. So, we can start reno right after 2nd appointment! I wish ... no trouble for my reno! Cheers, Michele
  12. It sounds great for you! BLUM is the best! (all my friends say that!) Actually, my reno contract has been signed. I wonder... can I buy BLUM from others and ask his carpenter for installation? Must ask my ID He's a good man so far just FYI, an contractor - office located @ Park Mall, offered additional $200 per one BLUM drawer. I dont know whether it's good price...for me...it's too high! Please keep update!!!
  13. oh, I understood - it's this: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70108926 Then, carpenter will add front panel(plank) c/w laminated/ABS trimming, am I right? I'll ask my ID whether I should use the IKEA's . I won't choose Blum - very expensive. Ikea's is good enough (for me) Thanks for information!
  14. Hi Smallboy, I'm quite confused Can we buy IKEA drawer-runners and ask our ID/contractor install them or we need to buy whole IKEA drawers? I dont like IKEA wood - and its laminate . If it's posible, I'll buy their mechanical runners only.
  15. I think Ah Soon should be a nice uncle since many forumers here chose him . I can't speak Chinese, my hubby can speak a bit --> it'd be very hard for us to tell the uncle exactly what we think if we chose him. If your mom likes the tiled wall so much, should make her satisfied If you choose color tiles, you may ask for the same color grout. If you choose white tiles, maybe after 5 years, you can re-cover the grout (obviously, after cleaning) by using grout tube - can buy at Home-fix --> look new . But this way may take your time. I won't start a reno blog bcoz I'm too busy But I can share with you some photos when it's done via email or post here if you allow me to do that Have a nice day!
  16. Hi Aubrey, Finally, I've chosen Jeremy's offer. He gives me a reasonable price and good attitude. We signed contract yesterday. The reno is going to start on 21 Apr. Thank you very much for the recommendation! Btw, I saw you showed some interested mosaic ... IMO, it looks nice when it's new. Then, grout will turn dark --> looks old and dirty... However, mosaic is ok if you lay a few strips or small area. With my cooking and cleaning 'experience', I'd vote for plastering + easy-wash paint for kitchen wall, we only need glossy/shiny backsplash for kitchen cabinet Good luck with you reno! I keep following your blog
  17. Just question to Fanzander I see this item in your list "To supply and plaster over existing wall tiles at kitchen area.- $550.00" Is it possible to plaster over the glossy tiled wall? lasting? if we drill on the plastered-tiled wall, can the plaster layer come off?
  18. Thanks, HanJin! I called Home-fix but they dont have. I've just call Home Hardware @ Ubi - They have paint sprayer but ...not sure if it's the one. Must go there to see
  19. Hi all, It sounds weird when a woman ask this question , but I need it. Please share with me some info if you know. Here's is the sprayer: http://home.howstuffworks.com/house-painting-tools3.htm Thanks!
  20. Hi Roamca, Your house is very nice! Have you finished the renovation? I see it's almost done Could you share with me what's paint colors in your living room? I like the combination of yellow and cream, so try to find the same paint. Thanks!
  21. Hi Aubrey, I'm also looking for ID or subcontractors. Comparing the unit price your ID quoted to mine - your unit price is much better! e.g. my ID quoted plastering 1.8K only for living room, 2 bedroom, and kitchen ceiling So, I decided to find another contractor who do only plastering and painting... Cheers, Michele
  22. Hi, I have no experience, but I read some infor.... http://www.doityourself.com/stry/paintceramictile http://www.askthebuilder.com/651_Painting_Ceramic_Tile.shtml Hoped it helps Cheers
  23. Thanks Molly! My ID quoted the applying sealant and painting seperately - $300 (sealant) + $800 (painting) for living-room and 2 bedrooms (not for kitchen+dinning) of 3NG flat. Is it overcharged? She also quote 'include PVC angle-bead for corners' with plastering work. My unit is old - (older than me )Do we need the angle-bead as electric wires running on the corners between walls and ceiling? Please advise! I'm trying to cut-down spares renovation cost due to limit budget
  24. My ID quoted 'applying sealant on all platered walls before painting' Please advice - Is it neccessary to apply the sealant b4 painting? Thanks a lot!
  25. Hi all, We're buying a HDB flat. The 1st appointment is scheduled on the mid-March. We discussed with the seller and he has agreed to allow us rent 1 bedroom from 1st appointment to Completion Day. It's verbal agreement, no contract. Could you guys please advice if any potential issues maybe encountered? Cheers, Michele
