  1. green is a nice colour... retro with a soothing tinge.
  2. hi DKCH, luckily you did your research before confirming. i guess PLC and T5 lights are pretty good gauge for basic price comparison. we're once quoted $30+++ for a 2x13W PLC that didn't look too different from the ones sold at Lights Arcade & Chan Huat. we when we heard the price quoted. but of course, we didn't go into other unknown technical specifications to layman like us, such as the ballast etc. most of the shops we visited used Osram bulbs. Lights Arcade was one of those shops that we've visited. as a layman disregarding technical specifications, we found the price pretty reasonable and cheap. also, the gentleman who served us, in his 40s i think, was really helpful with the advices. a good place for getting basic lights like toilet, storeroom, PLC etc. unfortunately, we only bought a dining lamp from him as we found most of our other stuff from Chan Huat, where we demanded for more discount for the purchases we made we're at Choo Chiang @ AMK Ind Park 2 today to check out some hardware. i think you can consider getting your switches and 13A points from them too if you're not getting from your ID/contractor. they have legrand, clipsal and others. in the end, we bought a compact legrand corded doorbell there instead of getting it from our ID.
  3. hi coke, that full height feature wall is made up of tiles and here's a closed up look of it: we bought ordered this from Hafary. we decided to go for tiles instead of carpentry for our tv feature wall. just a little pre-empt for those who are interested in this kind of tiles. due to the uneven surfaces on the top and bottom edges, gaps like the one below may appear. so do tell the tilers that they should do something about it. we've notified our ID and he said our tilers will work on it. as for bathrooms, i'd consider them long, narrow and not very well lit. the common bathroom is much darker than the MBR one as it only has a one-panel window. the MBR one is slightly better as it has 2 panel windows. hopefully the tiles we chose didn't make them look darker.
  4. Progress Update - End of Week 3 somehow, not much work has been done this week; the place seems pretty much as it was 1 week ago. tiling will prob have to be completed before anything else can take place; marble for levelling up the balcony was only delivered this morning; hopefully we will be able to see more progress this coming week. toilet accessories have also been delivered - wc and sink will be installed this coming week; but shower and racks probably towards the end; less chance of getting dirty, according to our ID. plastering and painting will also commence tv feature wall is up false ceiling up learnt some new things along the way. # those who are planning for glass-walled toilet - glass tied perpendicular onto glass will be unstable - it needs to be in a straight line, or have a piece of concrete to secure the 2 pieces of glass. as such, we have no choice but to give up the idea of a full glass walled toilet - have to build up a concrete wall so tt it will be more secure mbr toilet with built-up wall cement laid @ balcony area - levelling it with marble (west sun attack - not even 3pm when pic was taken)
  5. hey thanks for the information honestly, we're pretty clueless about the items included in this upgrading program, besides the lift.
  6. hello, think it could be abit hard to compare the quotes like tt, cos of the different area sizes. can't comment much on carpentry, cos we didn't do much carpentry works - but i think if its the same coy, should be pretty standard. our initial quote also had a 7ft wardrobe, i think its also about 1480, same as yours. ceiling works wise, depend on the area covered, i guess. our false ceiling works cost 1500 in total for common areas, and 600 for MBR - but it wasn't really a false ceiling in MBR - more of two side boards. hmm, but ur shower screen seems cheaper than ours... time to nag @ our fren have u decided whether or not to go with them? btw, who is the guy who responded to u?
  7. seems u r doing cove lighting thru'out ur whole house. effect should be quite nice
  8. our ceilings and walls are worse than uneven. after the old electrical casings were removed, we realised tt the previous owners had plastered the walls before... after we tore the casings and old aircon trunkings down, plaster started peeling, and unsightly holes could be seen everywhere now we have no choice but to plaster the affected areas, else the place will look like chicken pox extra costs... patchy and unsightly walls
  9. christy, i think we got the same WC is it the crizto one? how do u find the flushing? strong? cos we were told the cistern for this only holds 4L of water, as opposed to the std 4.5L the hubby likes the short cistern, so he can see his toilet feature wall, but the wife is worried about flush not being powerful enuff
  10. does anyone know if we can change the current letterbox to a new one? i know the lock can be changed; how about the entire box?
  11. Meiye? you mean the petite one beside Kohler? That one not too bad too. we kinda found our toilet bowl a little big and pointed. I wonder if it's ergonomic haha saw some wc that cost thousands :| i wonder if it feels any different
  12. happy shopping there! i heard from a friend who just came back from BKK that there are plenty of decorative stuff that one can buy. i'm sure it will be a fruitful trip for the two of you the daybed at Lim's was with back support, just like a 3 seat. couple it with a ceiling hung 'mosquito net' will give the living room a different look
  13. have u decided on the solar films to get? ur sun seems mild compared to ours. our unit really gets the full sun attack in the noon, quite scary. think its a must to get good solar films and curtains/blinds to prevent discolourization of furniture and fixtures. we've decided to do the 3M prestige for the living and dining areas... the rooms, ordinary ones; else the cost will be exhorbitant. v-kool is abit too exp, out of budget.
  14. our false ceiling is 5 inches. some areas are lower tho, cos of the beams. the effect is not as bad as we thought it would be. was worried it would be too low, and look caustrophobic, but so far so good. hopefully wun look caved in after lights installation.
  15. EOL = end of life. they told us the model we wanted was going to be discontinued, and limited stocks for the sizes. GRRRRRR
  16. i think i got the same list fm sgbrides, heh. been wanting to go to bali or thailand to source for furniture/accessories too, cos hearsay its much cheaper, but we just dun have the budget any more, esp after this reno thingy.
  17. sure, we're looking forward to your pictures wow, you have 20+ merchants on your list? we only had at most 10+. so where do you intend to get your dining set? we're eyeing the mahogony dining set located on the left side when you enter Unikhome, before we purchased our customized set. at Lim's, we say a daybed that we really liked. the vertical structure was made of timber of more than 12cm wide. looked really really good. unfortunately, the price was out of our reach next on our hunting list is high density foam seat cushion of at least 12cm for our sofa set and daybed.
  18. xiaobb, do u have pics of ur WC? saw tt u got the geo ceram ones... the sales pp @ asia excel were also promoting it to us, and we happily bot it, cos it looks quite nice. THEN, when we went back another day, we were told tt there was only stock left for certain offset in size cos it's an EOL model bobian, have to change. ended up buying crizto ones.
  19. during the removal process, the could undergo quite abit of abuse. the old doors in my place are still there, after the removal of the old door frames and stuff... and they look like maybe the workers knew the doors would be changed, and didn't bother taking care of them. do remind ur guys to take the door out carefully if u're planning to reuse it
  20. hi sohck, i think MK brand switches are fine. i've seen switches of this brand endure abuse over a long period of time and still looking good!
  21. haha and so i replied i see that you've bought quite a bit of furniture from them. i'm sure you're happy with the purchases we were itching to buy more furniture from them on the day we ordered our 2m mirror but there isn't any more space we can put! hmm i don't think you'll get to see much from my supplier's website on the products. they do a lot of customization upon request. perhaps that's the reason for the lack of pictures uploaded on their website. those furniture we saw at the showroom in KL looked pretty good. i hope the final products are sturdy and not wobby. we've been to a couple of teak furniture merchants in singapore. some of their chairs didn't seem too steady. it's as if they have legs of different length :| side note: there are actually quite a few places in singapore selling such rustic or teakwood furniture and accessories lim's arts @ holland village - shop space is much bigger than expected www.gallery.278.com hands gallery @ serangoon www.pieceofmine.com.sg - recommended by my colleague, haven't went to the shop tho www.journeyeast.com - chanced upon this website fm a magazine - will be checking it out
  22. saw ur t-blog - u got ur furniture fm unikhome? we ordered a mirror fm them too do post more pics of the furniture u got fm them in ur blog? only saw a pic of the tv console. so are most of ur furniture made of mahagony? we ordered our furniture fm malaysia - it will be shipped fm indonesia tho, seems like most companies have their factories in indonesia.
  23. thanks to everyone who gave their 2 cents' worth on our latest problem on frosted glass i asked my colleague, whose hubby is doing reno work. sandblast - more exp, cos they have to send the whole glass for processing - prone to water mark stains, if the water is not wiped off promptly. durability, of cos higher frosted sticker - cheaper, cos just a piece of sticker onto clear glass; easier maintenance, and if u wanna change the design 5 yrs down the road, just peel the sticker. however, sticker has to be pasted on well, or prone to air bubbles and peeling, esp if its subject to water. dunno if the above findings r conclusive enough tho... our ID also highlighted to us the water mark problem... we'll probably discuss further with him.
  24. yeah, we're trying to be more positive too. but hubby can't help harping at all those obvious flaws and errors. nowadays, we get skeptical when our ID promises something. once bitten, twice shay. we have to tell him to do feasibility study before getting back to us. it makes us wonder if they are truly ID who knows the technical aspects of renovations or just salesmen who coordinate renovation works. by the way, who is the forumer you're referring to? we can scold about our IDs together
  25. hi all, i have a question and appreciate if everyone can give me some feedback. we're using some glass material items for our house. E.g. Glass cladded wall between kitchen and foyer area, tempered glass MBR toilet wall, tempered glass swing doors for both toilet entrances etc. we're in a dilemma about the finishing to be used. I.e. Sandblast or frosted sticker laminate. any suggestion which we should use? thanks!
